1) Steamflogger Boss is the only black bordered card (boo) but is on the land sheet. This actually makes a lot of sense since a sheet is 11x11 (I believe) which would give you 24 of each basic land + 1 Steamflogger boss on each sheet.
After seeing those photos I would like to say that I already love this set and would marry it if I could. The "mad scientist" angle and the visual humor is making me very very happy. Makes up for some recent sins in my book.

To all angry about contraptions being in silver border: Maro explicitely stated multiple times that if he could solve contraptions in silver border he would do that.

I am a little disappointed as well, but come on guys, he didn't have to actually give us contraptions at all. He didn't betray or deceive anyone. Also: Being silver-bordered doesn't mean that they will never appear in black border. It mostly just means that Maro thinks they aren't solvable in black border under the current rules, or don't make for a mechanic that could be used for a black bordered set. That attitude might still change in the future.
Also: I love crazy scientist world. I hope that there will be many in-jokes not related to only mad science though too.

My hypothesis is that he managed to invent a Contraption that allows someone to escape from the silver-bordered realm into the black-bordered Multiverse, a mechanism that travels across the fourth wall itself.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Judging by the leaked pictures, this set looks like it got some real creative attention, not just lip service. I'm psyched (but I might not buy much or any of it).
After all these years, I'm kinda disappointed that we aren't getting Contraptions in black border, but it's better than not seeing them at all!

But people took the joke seriously, and started demanding that WotC find a way to make it work. The thing is, they worded it specifically so that the card didn't work. And you guys are shocked that they couldn't make work (outside of silver-border) the mechanic that was never meant to work?
There was only ever going to be one of three outcomes to this: WotC gives up, and contraptions never happen; contraptions get shoehorned into the game in an unsatisfying attempt to make people happy; or they only happen in silver-border land. Asking for contraptions was like Calvin & Hobbes fans asking for a write-up for the rules to Calvinball.

FYI, Unsets in the past touched on the humor/cartooniness that sums up Hearthstone, today. The artwork wasn't always so serious. But yeah, Magic was doing it way before Hearthstone was ever a thing It's just been a while.
Hopefully people will finally shut up about Contraptions now. Like theMarc said, it was always a joke, an obvious joke, that people took way too seriously for far too long. I'm glad to see it finally put to rest.
