I honestly disagree. I find them ugly. What makes it even more egregious is the price for them.
People should not give WotC a single penny for these to make them understand the paper they sell is NOT ALL THAT.

What? No.
I quite honestly think they look like art from a pre-school class. I think they are terrible.
Hey guys, remember that stating you don't enjoy the art is not the same as giving inflammatory feedback that unfairly criticizes the artist on a non-constructive level. Artists for MtG are highly trained and devoted to creating pieces which people will enjoy as well as trying to stick to the art direction they are given. I'm sure Vincent Proce did his best as an artist to fulfill both of these obligations, so please try to keep criticism respectful.
I'm really sad to see so many people dislike the art. That's going to discourage them from further experimentation.
I guess people really are so boring that they prefer yet another 3D rendered ripped bod to an interesting stylistic choice. It's like when you think Street Fighter is a cool game, until you realize everyone just plays Ryu, Ken, and stupid Akuma. No imagination.
Edit: Yeah, I admit my comment was inflammatory. Everyone has the right not to like any art. I personally would have loved to see the hieroglyphic style used on magic cards (invocations perhaps), but that's clearly polarizing: some really like it, and some hate it.
I think you have a good point, but I like the art on these. Gonna be haters on everything though, but these will still sell out and prove plenty popular in the overall community.
Also, I've never played with Akuma, haha.

I know he thinks I'm impressed by a 102 MPH fastball in the 9th inning... Ok, I'm impressed, but that doesn't mean I can't crush it.
I rest my case. Hyper inflammatory non-constructive insults = over reactionary internet hater post. Almost impossible to get a genuine opinion on here.

"Someone disagrees, hater!"
Get over yourself. :]
It isn't a simple disagreement, it is childish inflammatory elementary insults instead of constructive criticism. Hence, not a genuine honest opinion and because internet. I don't think these are even the greatest arts ever, but they don't warrant the typical haters gonna hate everything just because you're sitting behind a monitor anonymously.

It is indeed Bolas carving his victory over the gatewatch.
The full picture really shows off how awesome the artist made these, I think the way they frame them in the cards really takes away from this original art piece.

Agreed, thats a far more interesting piece, when complete.
Ok, I'll be a little more constructive. I like what he did with Nissa, Liliana and Jace, they look very nice with the profile look, reminescent of ancient tomb drawings and such. I dislike Chandra, she looks too...large for the picture. I would have preferred maybe dancing flames around her and so on, and Gideon I am fairly meh on overall. It's a nice idea, but I prefer previous SDCC arts.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
This is a much better implementation of the Egyptian theme than the invocations were. I dig them, although I won't be able to shell out the dough for one.
Alright, I will provide the constructive feedback that some of you think we need to provide on a forum populated by amateurs.
The reason that the art does not translate well to the cards has absolutely nothing to do with the artist's execution. It has everything to do with the perspective of the original piece. The original design is a mural/landscape printout from a perspective centered on the image of Nissa and at eye level. The image is skewed to the left and right of Nissa and as if the person viewing it would be looking upwards to depict the height of the wall and the size of the carvings. It is a realistic perspective and that is why it works so well as a single large piece of art.
However, when you isolate each carving to put it into a Planeswalker card it loses the context of the full image. So, you end up with a Jace, Liliana, Chandra, and Gideon that look skewed and oddly proportioned with Jace and Gideon looking the most odd because they are the skewed the most. It's not a poor execution on the artist's part - the art simply doesn't translate well to an isolated frame without warping the skew. That's the same reason that Nissa looks the most well done, IMO.
So there, the artist can put his ego at ease now that an amateur artist on a forum not directly related to their craft has explained why his execution was perfect and the cards still look like crap.
Oh, and to clarify, it has nothing to do with the hieroglyphic art style itself (even though I still believe this would have been better used for the invocations).
Now, we can get back to the real issue which is that this product is $180 dollars...
I like these more than the all-black ones. And that's the only nice thing I can say about them.
As for foreshadowing, I don't know. There is foreshadowing in some SDCC promos, but 1) I don't think Wizards does it, and 2) franchises who do such foreshadowing at SDCC tend to code it in ways only the creators could understand at the time, but you'll understand later.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
I was lucky enough to jump in after the fact on a Saturday afternoon to get mine last time (no waiting for timed tickets). Luckily, it's a fairly low-demand item at Hasbro (Star Wars stuff sells out pretty much immediately), so it will probably be there in the later hours of the day when it opens up. With the increased price and mediocre contents, dunno how high of a demand there will be for these.
I'd love full prints of the mural, and the Bolas cardstock print, but Gideon and Chandra's skewing looks very awkward. Nissa's is definitely the best.
Honestly, these would've been way cooler with a different frame. As-is, the art style and graphic design of the frame are at-odds and that causes a lot of the visual dissonance we're experiencing (on top of the skewing from the bigger picture).
I'm going to try and get some Sunday. Also, if you haven't checked out Proce's personal booth (4819), he has (or at least yesterday, had) 30 complete sets of artist proofs for the SDCC PWs. If I remember, it was $400 for all 6 and were only sold as a set. Was a bit rich for my blood though, as the individual sales on eBay have been mediocre so far and playability of each walker is so-so outside of Chandra. But it was something to check out as I got him to sign my foil Polluted Deltas.

I'm sure the artist professionally executed to the direct request in style.
That style is not appealing to me, and seemingly others, and yes has a very child like style.
That's not hating to hate. Trust me, trolling is something I know deeply.
I don't like the art, it's simple.
