Oh wow, since I don't pay attention to Commander crap, I didn't know that the art on the lands was reused. I mean, they're nice looking, but FFS commission some new art for a promo.
This thing is hot garbage. WotC wtf are you even doing anymore?

For me, this is the only saving grace of the product. These lands are awesome and, as I mentioned in some other thread, I hope this trend continues. The Rebecca Guay arts were also fantastic and I hope to see those in foil next.
Great idea, Wizards, cut the packs and stick in a bunch of junk that nobody cares about.
It's a miracle they haven't cut the amount of packs in Fat Packs by now and started shoving in things like pen and pencil sets and Jace-shaped erasers and tat like that.

Ugh.
True, I remember when you used to get a Book with the fat packs.
The very first holiday box was the RTR one and it was well-received because it provided a useful box with dividers and stickers along with the 5 packs.
you guys severely overvalue a box, plastic dividers, and something i literally leave on the table at the local store or throw in the recycling bin
2 fewer boosters sucks, but promo lands by poole? totally make up for it
Speak for yourself— I keep my entire collection in these.
They had even done a good job of releasing one for each color (and artifacts).
If they had just continued on with a gold-colored box and a land-colored box,
I would have considered the product line complete,
but now my lands and gold cards will have to live in some off-color box.

you know you can buy a card box at just about any lgs for almost nothing that fits more cards and holds up better right?
the boxes for fat packs/holiday packs really shouldn't be considered a selling point, especially when cheaper more durable alternatives exist. if anything the box should be considered a bonus. if you're using it as justification of the price you're getting ripped off. hard.
Alright, that amount of packaging is too much for something like this. I slightly enjoy the POkemon TCG, online though, and everytime I'm at Wal-Mart there are about 50 box sets (that's not much of an exaggeration either) and I can't believe how much space they take up. Yes, you have to present some of the stuff, but they could easily cut this and the Pokemon ones in half to fit it all for less waste.

Have you seen the new Black Kyurem vs White Kyurem Battle Arena Decks? The packaging is a joke. The Battle Arena Deck packaging used to be just a little larger than MTG duel deck packaging, but now, they made it the size of the many box sets that the Pokemon TCG has.

I did not know this was coming out, been out of a it for a little bit, but just by the pictures that is all sorts of gross. I bought the Rayquaza vs. Keldeo and it was easily less than half the size of that behemoth.

Maybe they're making the packaging larger on purpose, to compete for shelf space with pokemon. A box this size will need to be displayed prominently on one of the open visible shelves at big box stores instead of hanging on the rack with the boosters or hiding on the bottom shelf with the duel decks.

I think it's safe to say this product is pretty much just a literal advertising platform (to the general public). Then it stands that it's not value-for-money since they want the thing to stay on the shelves - imagine if it had fetchlands and 3 MM3 boosters in it instead, the next day that shelf will be empty (and probably replaced by Pokemon products ironically).
That being said I think it'a a pointless struggle for WotC eventually, it works for Pokemon because the characters are recognized. Chances are the products are nearby (if not outright beside each other) and let's just say it's way more likely a person not only recognizes the Pokemon brand, but is aware someone else they know plays it to some extent (people tend to mix up the TCG and VGC) because their overall marketing is so good it's easier to "leak" you play Pokemon than MTG, since anything product you own relating to the franchise would more likely be questioned by someone you know if it was Pokemon rather than MTG.
Bluntly put you probably needed to outright tell someone you play MTG than have someone ask you, while its vice versa for Pokemon, of course it's not a definite sweeping statement, but I'm confident enough from each side's marketing antics to figure out it's favored that way.
Neither product (the previous Gift Box or this pack) is worth their value for sure, but let's just say even if you bypassed the hoops and someone got you one of these as a gift, I would vastly prefer the one with the box that can store 9 double-sleeved EDH decks (that can fit in small cupboard without being excessively long or requiring multiple boxes) than one with excessive packaging that I need to send for recycling (never liked the way Pokemon did that even if I could see why they're doing it).

Being noticed is certainly good to get your product noticed, and I can't blame them for that, but the sheer amount of packaging for this product is bordering on absurd. I feel like their could easily be a way for using half the packaging and still get the desired effect. Sure if every single one of these were recycled it would be better, but we know that at best only half of these are being properly disposed of.
The reason I included them in the "not really needed" category is bc they are readily available as a standalone item. Ultra Pro makes ones with various designs on them, or plain white ones, and they're usually 15 for $3.
Pokemon and Yugioh both have this box set product that contains a preconstructed deck and 3 to 5 boosters. Imagine if WOTC made a product similar to that.
Imagine a box set that contains a planeswalker deck, 3 other boosters, and some jumbo card of the planeswalker, or a figurine of that planeswalker.
I remember old Pokemon box sets used to be a way to repackage unsold old product. When Heartgold Soulsilver was the newest set, they would have box sets that contained a theme deck from Diamond and Pearl Secret Wonders, and some packs from the Diamond and Pearl series, even those sets were probably already 2 years old. I wished WOTC did something like that in the past so I didn't have to spend an arm and a leg, and go through loopholes just to complete my theme deck/intro pack/planeswalker deck collection.
I'm still looking for the Feast of Flesh Intro Pack from New Phyrexia hahaha.
So is this actually replacing the Gift Box or is it an additional product? Because they rebranded the 'Holiday Gift Box' to simply 'Gift Box' pretty recently.
They haven't announced another Gift Box, I'm assuming this is replacement.
I liked the old boxes - I put all the bulk cards and assembled decks per set/block and it was easy to find. Also looks good on a shelf.
Going back to labels and white cardboard boxes then.
I don't get it, why people compare this set with the Holiday Gift Box. It says Gift Pack 2017, nothing about Holiday. This is a new supplemental product and has nothing to do with Holiday Gift Box. It isn't specific to a Set or Block (Art on the Box...). Holiday Gift Boxes will still be produced during the christmas season.
Last year the "holiday gift box" got the name changed into "gift box" to sell them outside holidays.

This looks like a product they want on Wal-Mart/Toys R Us shelves, similar to Pokemon EX-boxes. These aren't (really) for established players, but for parents buying for their kids/grandkids/nephews/nieces.
