Rivulet (U) is pretty interesting as a win condition because the ability is fairly cheap. I think you'd want a way to recur lands from the graveyard though. The new Ramunap Excavator and/or Splendid Reclamation seem like good enablers. The whole deck is probably a pipe dream though.
However Ruins (R) is downright great for Standard because the reach is invaluable for red decks (especially if they can fit in 4-8 more deserts).
I was semi-kidding in a prior thread about the enemy cycle-lands not being reprinted, but seeing these and not the enemy cycle-lands, I am pretty disappointed. There are literally only two cards in this set that I absolutely want.
They're all very limited, but I could see them being played in specific decks. While the costs for their abilities are pretty high, you will be able to activate them multiple times if you play enough deserts. Also, they don't enter the battlefield tapped and can still generate colored mana if you really need it. The R and B one are probably the strongest; not sure how good the U one is.
Blue one (note: no sorcery-timing clause) might become a Commander staple just for its threat to hose topdeck tutors. Sure, go ahead and play your Vampiric, Enlightened, or Mystical Tutor while I have one of these out and the mana up that I could pop it if I so wished.
Lol. I mistyped, though recurring it is also an option with excavator. I meant that it is repeatable, using other deserts to sac for its ability. Usually its sac said card with ability to activate an ability. These are sac a land type. An interesting direction to take the game Wizards, well played...

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
This gives Ramunap Hydra a little more consistent punch. How hard will it be getting the Desert abilities online by turn 4 now?
There was already a cycling... uh, cycle... of Deserts. Hashep Oasis with it seems nasty though. Pity Ramunap Hydra weren't smaller with +1/+1 for each Desert you control/+1/+1 for each Desert card in your graveyard.

Exactly. Now we have a common cycle of Deserts to, well, cycle, and Deserts that ETBU and tap for color mana. Sure, it pains you each time they do, but considering this is a green aggro deck that wants to drop the Hydra by turn 3, a little life loss is acceptable.
Unfortunate that Fatal Push is probably what will keep the Hydra from seeing more than fringe competitive play. By turn 3 it's just too easy for the opponent to pop a Renegade Map then fire off a Push. But maybe a player will be able to say "I pushed a Hydra today. I sure showed it who's boss!"

I really like these as not only do they have tap to add colorless or tap to add colored mana at the cost of 1 life, the activated ability, but also they don't enter the battlefield untapped which is a big step up from the common desert cycle.
Oh, they could have been desert waste to justify the colorless mana. That would have been cool.
They're all solid, given that they're lands, don't come into play tapped and produce color if needed. I guess as instants they were just too strong, due to not being uncounterable and the possibility of repeated activations.
I wonder if anyone read the title and thought HoD was suddenly dropping a motorcycle into our laps? Although it could also have been a bicycle. And I'm now getting a mental image...
Chandra: Hey Gids, sweet ride! Gideon: Yeah, chicks dig the bike. Jace: Why do I have to ride the bicycle, again? You're Mr. Fitness around here!

And of course blue gets the worst one out of the cycle again. Unflipping believable!
Well hey, if you're playing a Delve deck this is an easy five in the yard. Better yet, it's reusable. Let's see if Tasigur, the Golden Fang doesn't have room for some Deserts in his empire. You can also use it to help fuel Gate to the Afterlife and God-Pharaoh's Gift.
I actually think the black and green ones are the least good of the cycle.

I will be adding the green one in my Rhonas the Indomitable deck. The black one is essentially uncounterable removal. I can't imagine a mono black EDH deck not running it. I guess Tasigur could make use of it. Not sure if it wants to run a one colored pain land in a tri colored deck though.
Love to see all this non-basic love. I'm really digging the whole desert matters them. I always thought the idea that Zendikar tried to sell of "lands matter" should have meant things like this, instead of Landfall.
The blue one is a great way to play with an opponent during a stall. The black one has the most power of the five. Those -1/-1 counters laugh in the face of indestructible creatures!
I wonder if we'll get a creature that has power/toughness each equal to the # of deserts in a(ll) graveyard(s)? That'd be a cool gimmick esp. with all the deserts in the set/block.

Great, more sorcery-only restrictions. Those have been screwing me up already in Amonkhet. And even worse, they don't *all* have the restriction. Sorcery-only on embalm/eternalize is easy enough to remember (if only because that sort of mechanic basically always has it), but lands usually don't have that restriction (c.f. Foundry of the Consuls, Spawning Bed).
Oh, they could have been desert waste to justify the colorless mana. That would have been cool.
Except the whole point of Wastes is that it doesn't have a type. It is a sixth basic but is typeless to avoid messing with domain and other basic land type cards/abilities. There is no subtype Waste.
We not getting a full cycle of "cycle fetchable lands" unbelieveable
(Only 3 land slots left.)
I'm seriously annoyed by that, as well. I really wanted the GB one for The Gitrog Monster and the WB one for my Zur Astral Slide deck. I hate incomplete cycles.
