I'm surprised no one thought of RDW with bomat courier
turn 1: courier, swing
turn 2: swing again, activate ability, drop entire hand in the yard and get 2 cards back from bomat.
theoretically in a creature only aggro deck that has 4xgate to the afterlife and 2 of this new card, then a super low curve of only trying to get to 3 lands for the gate, you could easily get to 6 creatures in the yard by turn 3-4. red has some pretty interesting cards like the courier, or any of the 1 drop menace creatures that get a whole lot better at 4/4
Because your hand is almost always better than casting One With Nothing.

except that's not at all what you are doing, which I'm pretty sure you would have caught onto that if you bothered reading the post to understand what it was saying. The entire thread so far has been people trying to find ways to fill the yard with creatures before turn three, and I gave them the only realistic option in standard, which of course still gets you back 2 cards on the play. That's a far cry form one with nothing when your goal is to dump your entire hand by turn 2 and not lose all value
Anointed Procession makes this even scarier. Now I really want to see a WUB Commander for Zombies. Or even better, WUBR Commander. Of course, Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist and Tymna the Weaver seem like a pretty decent duo for a WUBR Zombies deck.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Can anyone think of any creatures that would benefit from coming back as 4/4s? I can only think of the trainees and one of the exploit creatures.
depends on what format. a card like prophetic flamespeaker becomes devastating with this for older formats. in standard, anything made intentionally weak to offset abilities like doublestrike.
This entire summer set just seems like it was planned as a way to boost EDH. These cards are powerful, it's just they are too slow for an aggressive standard so we end up with standard being fueled more by Kaladesh and Aether Revolt than Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation. Albeit, I don't think underestimating this card is a good idea in standard because it is possible to build a deck around it. Gate to the Afterlife lets you play the card from the players hand or the deck, so drawing into God-Pharaohs Gift doesn't result in the same kind of problems drawing into Ulamog did for Marvel decks.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Even in EDH, I think R decks will find more use for this than any other color, considering it does trigger off additional combat phases. Debtors' Knell is already considered too slow by many players. If you're in B (without Red and/or additional combat phases), Sheoldred might still be the preferable choice for a long-term reanimator (Sure, you can cast this before combat and get the benefit immediately, but if you're doing this on the assumption it won't be surviving the turn cycle, the assortment of cheaper 1-time-use reanimation spells might be a lot better in that case).
Can anyone think of any creatures that would benefit from coming back as 4/4s? I can only think of the trainees and one of the exploit creatures.
Anything small with some kind of evasion or useful ability hindered by being attached to a tiny body would be perfect. The 1/1 menaces, 1/2 unblockables and 2/2 tramplers of the world.

My decks
Standard - RIP Cat
Modern - Death & Taxes
Commander - Mazirek, Trostani, Angry Omnath
You *could* have fun with this using cards like Misthollow Griffin or Torrent Elemental, but then even that too is slow. The bothersome part is that this costs 7 mana. By the time you reach 7 mana you should have already won or are close to winning (in a non-limited format).
This is limited/commander fodder. TBH I was expecting more from this card, particularly with the way it's played out in the story.
Again, at least it's not mythic. I'd be pissed if it was at these stats.

It has the same benefits the scarab god does. It makes a 4/4 copy of any creature. Hence, you could bring back verdurous gearhulk or noxious gearhulk using it to get their etc triggers, or use something like marionette master.

The effect is clearly worth 7 mana. Compare with Debtors' Knell which brings back any creature from any graveyard, but only at your upkeep, costs colored mana, doesn't give haste and doesn't change the creatures stats (which is sometimes important). Anything under 7 mana would make this card pretty busted. At least you can cheat it out, unlike Debtors' Knell.
I still think Hope of Ghirapur is one of the best creatures in standard with it. A cheap 1/1 flier that you can sacrifice to get into the graveyard. Then when it comes back as a 4/4 flier you can still use it to shut down casting of non-creatures.
Walking Ballista can go into graveyard for free. Come back out as a hasty 4/4 that you can pay 4 to make bigger and breath fire.
I excluded the Bomar originally since you have to discard your hand after you play the Gate. It's 2 mana for itself to get into graveyard, versus Hope can get there for 1 and Ballista's for zero. Also, Bomar are worst of the three after they come back as 4/4 and force you into red.
Scrapheap scrounger is another good creature which doesn't mind the graveyard.
Dread Wanderer is cheap card to go into graveyard that can come back out.
Blisterpod is another interesting one drop. Leaves behind an extra body which helps you ramp.
Anything with Cycling 1 would also be interesting to fill the yard and come back.
I brewed a deck up for this, for after rotation, right here, and I could use some feedback on it, either low drop creatures for the curve that help with filling the bin, or sideboard techs.

And of course someone has got to build a UBR deck with Dark Intimations, Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh, Gate to the Afterlife, and God-Pharaoh's Gift.
Wait a sec...7 mana artifact? In a future Standard with Dominaria?
