C'mon guys, basic English. Repeat means do something again. If the spell is cast for 0, you REPEAT the process 0 times. You ALWAYS do the action the first time.
This card really is formatted in defiance of basic English. You are correct, repeat means do something again, which means the repeat clause should be AFTER the action being repeated (ie Ad Nauseam), which would then create X+1 instances of the action. "Perform" would have been a better choice if the action is taken X times.
Yes, the first sentence should have been last. However, repeat does mean repeat. The word has not taken on any added context in the game of Magic that would lead the reader of the card to reasonably conclude that it means something different than its commonly accepted definition.
If the first sentence (repeat X times) was last, you would end up doing it a total of X+1 times, which is not what the card currently does.
Yeah, just saw the tweet from Melissa DeTora. The card doesn't do what the plain English wording says it does. They should have used "Do" or "Perform" instead of "Repeat".
It could be good if cast for some huge amount,
but at that point, I would probably prefer Exsanguinate.
This was my initial reaction, too, but I think this scales better at big numbers (up until the point where both can kill the table outright, that is). Consider it at X=15. Each opponent losing 15 and you gaining 45 is good, but it probably won't win you the game on its own. But each opponent losing 15, then having to pitch 10 cards from their hand/battlefield and you're pretty dang copacetic.
With this dude 100% chance of 8+ with the hailfire plus all you need is 6 more for 14 and 3 x 14 = 42 damage
What a strange post/oddly specific interaction:
- "100% chance of 8+..." (assuming you get 5 +1/+1 counters on Ramos);
- "...all you need is 6 more..." (that's not insignificant); and
- "...42 damage" (assuming your opponents aren't discarding anything or sacrificing nonland permanents)
Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through when you can just Urborg/Coffers and go nuts.
(Edited for grammar)
1. Just cast this. Plus even without it pretty easy to get to 5 counters with the dude
2 from the six more easily mana left over from getting to 5 counters
3. At that point of the game the opponent won't behave much in hand bore have enough permanent,s

So with hailfire..,..we can all agree wizards screwed up the wording and made it slightly confusing?
Another thing...had to reread it.... EACH opponent. Brutal in multiplayer.
Definitely should have been "Do" or "Perform". I've been using "Perform" in custom card designs, no template has used it yet according to gatherer, but its not ambiguous like "repeat"
yep all that's missing is an appearance by the gitrog monster and some friends and a sorcery that kills the first creature summoned by each opponent. But wait wasn't there already a set called exodous?
Am I reading Hail fire right that it would bypass the protection from sacrifice effects from sigarda, host of herons? Or are they just unable to prevent the life loss aside from discarding?

They can't choose to sacrifice permanents thanks to Sigarda, so they have to lose the life unless they discard a card.
Torment of Hailfire
The card is not confusing; if x = 0 then nothing happens, but perhaps they should have phrased it as "perform the following process x times". I can see some form of BW or BU control using this with x >= 4 to annihilate an opponent.
Torment of Venom
Maybe a little costly, but it is instant speed and will usually result in removing a creature plus something else or remove a creature then force a discard.
Torment of Scarabs
The first one is annoying; the second one is probably lethal.
Farm // Market
Ridiculous name; reasonable effect. The aftermath portion isn't too bad, either.
Struggle // Survive
Not a bad burn spell; at worst it deals a minimum of 3, as did Welding Sparks in the correct deck (even though no one uses that spell). The aftermath portion is a very blue green spell, but I didn't design the card.

So it really seems that Wizards has made it that burn spells hitting players counts as another mode. I'm kind of wondering if they should just break up future burn spells so they have the same kind of layout as the modal spells:
Choose One:
* Deal X damage to target Creature.
* Deal X damage to target Player.
Right now the way they write out the burn spells it can be easy to miss the fact some spells only hit creatures. Don't know why I can't throw hot molten magma at my opponent with Magma Spray, but I guess that is starting to go into that pile of oddities such as how pushing someone off a ledge via Fatal Push is even casting a spell.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
I know they're trying to do something clever with the pictures on these split cards, but the terrible format makes deciphering it more trouble than I'm willing to put out.
T.o.Scarabs is the kind of card I want to make work in limited/Peasant Cube, but unless WotC's holding back on some high-grade low-rarity removal, it's almost definitely a trap. Especially with AMK/HOU's graveyard/discard value and the aggressive red 2-3 drops that have already been spoiled.
Well, on another note those five cards pretty much describe what is happening on Amonkhet right now: Mummies are tending the farmlands while people are screaming and flailing about due to the impending apocalypse brought about by a giant flying dragon with a multiverse level oven timer that just dinged. You have to be one epic evil dude to have an 8/8 flying trample demon as your oven timer.

When I say that, I sound like a southern stereotype pronouncing "hellfire".
farm to market is a bit silly, but we've already had hide and seek. split cards are just allowed to have silly names, I think.
