Well, if you need a way to get all your elves into your hand, here you go. Seems like this will be an excellent EDH card, though it requires a bit of building around.

I don't know why it couldn't get X or less CMC. It's like someone on the card design team had a ton of good ideas and then Maro or someone took the fun out of everything in Hour of Devastation.
This literally represents Rhonas's collection of creatures. They would be of all different sizes and not the same, in flavorful speaking.

"The essence of every world, every spell and every thought is power. Nothing else matters, because nothing else exists."

Only if your elves cost more than one can you get multiple.
But I agree one hundred per cent that this could be a very fun card.
Weird card. It rewards having access to really high levels of mana, because otherwise it's going to take awhile to profit from having 5 more 5-drops in hand. Also of course you have to know your deck really well, because if you already cycled one of your 5 5-drops it would fizzle if there are only 4 in your deck.
Probably best to get 3 3-drops and play two on turn six, I'd bet.
In modern, can't you cast it for GG (X = 0) to get a Memnite, an Ornithopter, and a Dryad Arbor? You could build a deck around that.
If you cast this for just GG, then you get to search for X creatures where X is equal to the amount of mana you paid in the X. If the X is 0, then you get to search for up to 0 creatures.
I'm not a fan of tutors for EDH, but it's an interesting card, and the fact that it doesn't let you search for cards with different mana costs makes it interesting/not broken. Not sure why this has to be mythic.

Up to X creatures. The mana cost is X, but the number of creatures can be X or less. You can find 4 5cc creatures with this.
I was scared that the end of the sentence was "put them onto the battlefield." Breathed a sigh of relief when I saw it was just in your hand. Last thing we need is another (likely better) Collected Company in Standard.
In modern, can't you cast it for GG (X = 0) to get a Memnite, an Ornithopter, and a Dryad Arbor? You could build a deck around that.
Well, ideally you'd want those in your opening hand if you were playing some weird green Affinity deck, but it'd at least get more 0-cost creatures out of your deck. If you can swing the mana, Tempered Steel would make that pretty interesting.

Fair enough. I guess I was thinking more about the one mana elves that I'm more familiar with in...well, Modern Elves. To which this wouldn't be all that useful.
But in broader deck builds, yeah.

If it was "mana cost X or less" then we would be talking.
Edit: or either one of them, whichever is missing, plus a Duskwatch Recruiter.

Nope because you have to pay one mana on top of the GG to search for any creature with that same CMC.
Probably best to get 3 3-drops and play two on turn six, I'd bet.

1 mana for 1 1cc creature
2 mana for 2 2cc creatures
3 mana for 3 3cc creatures
4 mana for 4 4cc creatures...

Well, for X = 2 you could get any two of Priest of Titania, Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary (though this isn't useful in Commander), Devoted Druid, Quirion Elves, Seeker of Skybreak, etc. Could be interesting.
Fair enough. I guess I was thinking more about the one mana elves that I'm more familiar with in...well, Modern Elves. To which this wouldn't be all that useful.
