I fail to see how this bad. You can either spend 1B or 1G or 2BG. Trample and card draw is actually really good for the green half by itself. The black half is also good by itself when you can make your opponent discard cards and you gave your creatures menace. Together though? You make it really awkward for your opponent as Trample + Menace means your opponent has to block with at least two of their creatures and can't have a combined lower toughness than your creature. If they do, the attacker draws a card and the opponent discards a card. If three creatures break the opponent's lines, even for 1 damage each, that basically reads as "Draw 3, your opponent discards 3 cards". Which at that point is Harmonize but better in just the card advantage alone.
Mouth // Feed and Never // Return were niche playable...this is at least that good.
Driven // Despair is the poster child of a "win more" card. It does absolutely nothing when you're behind. Mouth // Feed and Never // Return have relevant abilities regardless of the board state. Never // Return is even good for cube. Driven // Despair will be decent in draft and fun in EDH but that's about it.

I think I have to agree with your logic.
