I'm surprised the Scorpion God is real, its an interesting card, that does quite a lot, its odd that it requires no devotion-type thing. I wonder if there will three of them that all match Bolas's color.
As a Commander player, I feel the The Scorpion God seem pretty weak.
For 3BR, no enter the battlefield ability, no haste and an underwhelming activated ability that cost 1BR to activate. While drawing a card whenever a creature with a -1/-1 counter dies seems like a strong ability, there are only a handful of good cards that have a reasonable converted mana cost that actually put -1/-1 counters on creatures. Black Sun's Zenith and Contagion Engine come to mind as examples, but cards like Splendid Agony, Skinrender and even Soul Snuffers seem too underwhelming/gimmicky.
Are there any good card synergies with the The Scorpion God for commander that seem worth mentioning?
Liliana's Influence is pretty effective, and Midnight Banshee can be pretty brutal provided your own deck leans more heavily on black than red creatures.

How about Undying creatures? It negates the +1/+1 counter with his ability, allow them to die again. Anything with proliferate is also welcomed.

You realize that this is 35ish out of 184? There will be something for these obscurely named Gods. I love the flavor. No one knows the names of these individuals.

Re: Cycling: Deserts
1. Why not Desert Forest (or whatever)?
2. Why does the cycling cost cost so much? Would it have been broken to cost them at 2?
Khenra Eternal - fair french vanilla; sure.
Scrapper - Bland.
Eternalize:
1) Terrible name.
2) Lazy, terrible mechanic.
3) Look, it's 4/4 tokens with different keywords.
4) Did you like Embalm? Well, BAD NEWS! No more Embalm... EVER!
Boneslasher. You have a 3/2 for 2B with the same mana cost with menace. Is there any reason this couldn't be 3/3 vanilla? Vanilla is good for draft.
Horde - Hill Giant plus "not regeneration" is annoying design. Lord of the Accursed sees play, this won't.
Cerodon - Apparently there are more than 6 "Desert Lovers" out there; why is this not an ability word? Also, why do these exist; they're terrible.
The Scorpion God - No.
Angel of the God-Pharoh, Inferno Jet - Oh, look, crappy cycling cards that can't even be a strict cycle of 4CC cycle 2ers. Why?
Hour of Revelation - This is fine. But someone thinks it's clever; it's not.
Carrion Screecher - Ugh. Couldn't even give it 1: Haste until end of turn? Would that have broken it?
Sand Strangler - Look, it's a card that might see constructed play that Wizards didn't think would. Again.
Open Fire - It's cards like this that make me want to quit magic. We have 30 or so HoD cards. I can't think of one that makes me want to buy the set.
Oasis Ritualist - Oh, hey, look, it's the card people assumed would be in the last set, done poorly and overcosted. And probably not part of the obvious cycle. Oh, did I mention exert is a problem.

I'm digging how the "Deserts matter" theme checks for Deserts both in your graveyard and on the battlefield, since most of Amonkhet's Deserts could be sacced and HOD features a cycle of Cycling Deserts. I'm guessing that BR will be the primary pair for "Deserts matter" with green being the third color since Desert's a land type. Ergo, "Deserts matter" will be primarily a Jund theme, with a smattering of white and blue cards. Deserts tie together nicely with Exert and -1/-1 counters to create that sense of struggling to survive in a desert environment. Add mummies and you have the complete Ancient Egyptian package.
I wonder if we'll see a Desert or enchantment that turns all your lands into Deserts? A pity that the Desert name is already taken, otherwise I would have liked to see Basic Deserts.
Those Cycling Deserts will be really good with Ramunap Excavator. Cycle the Desert, then play it right afterward.
The Scorpion God could be mad value with Undying creatures, especially with a free sac outlet.
Probably because of the Standard environment it's in. One with tokens that can be sacced for mana, and where a certain Wizard reduces the cost of spells you cast by 1. On the upside, Wildfire Eternal can still free cast it.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Probably because of the Standard environment it's in. One with tokens that can be sacced for mana, and where a certain Wizard reduces the cost of spells you cast by 1.
Judgement's been out for, what? A decade. Can anyone explain the "standard" or "limited" environment that made Ember Shot need to cost what it did? I sincerely doubt it.
This is bad because Wizards wants it to be bad. Demand better from Wizards. Vote with your wallet.

We have two interesting EDH cards in Scorpion God and the wrath. I think the wrath is going to be an all-star at casual tables and maybe even good enough for stronger tables.
Really cool, non-combat version of exert. The card it's on is not exciting, but if it's just a taste I'm pumped.
Cycling lands are ALWAYS stronger than they look. These aren't awesome, but more is good for the decks that want them.
Need the red desert land in my mono red deck, the cycling will help late game and it fits with the desert theme of my deck, I'm already running 4 Sunscorched Deserts in it.

Mediocre removal spells make limited interesting. It's overcosted by 1 mana for standard but it is certainly going to be a good red common in limited. Electrify was perfect playable. This is 1 less mana, 1 less damage, but can hit players. Compare to Trial of Zeal; instant speed, but no Cartouche synergy.
And if you "demand" that wizard not design for limited as well because you're solely a constructed player, then you're going to be disappointed.
Realized there's one more card I didn't see; The 3 mana Lightning Bolt.
Pretty much reminds me of the major problem of current Magic derivative games (including Hearthstone): The threats are too powerful or too plenty, but the answers are too weak or almost nonexistent.
Eh. For the first night of spoilers I'm feeling underwhelmed. The desert-synergy is neat I guess, but something they should save for later. The first night should blow us away.
I know we have Ixalan leaks stealing it's thunder so it's an uphill battle, but seriously WoTC...you could have done better.

The 3rd iteration of common cycling lands and I half wish they entered untapped.
I like Eternalize and called that it would just be a bigger Embalm. Now we just have to see if they are all 4/4s when they become Eternalized.
The Scorpion God is pretty great. I like that Bolas strips them of their name invincibility, but they still have their invincibility. I hope the Locust God is a lot of fun.
Hour of Revelation is great, slots in perfectly over a lot of board wipes I have in various EDH decks, like Planar Cleansing or Akroma's Vengeance. I can see it being in Standard, highly doubt Modern, and no way in anything else.
After that this was all a little lame, mostly limited fodder.

Kulrath Knight is hilarious, at least if you have a meta with any decks that use +1/+1 counters. Note that it shuts down creatures with any sort of counters on them, not just -1/-1. I've seen a lot of decks that suddenly are just stalled out until they can dig for an answer.
Sure, it wouldn't be a super competitive deck, but it could be good control fun with some card advantage in the command zone. This god appeals to me far more than the other five did. It actually makes me excited to see what the other two will be.

Wow, the Scorpion God is the kind of new EDH general I've been looking for! But...that name's a little generic isn't it? Sounds like what people would call the card when they can't remember it's official name.
