Wikipedia is wrong. Ice Age/Alliances/Homelands MAY at one time been considered a "block." But not when the sets were in print. Alliances was an expansion to Ice Age, Homelands takes place on another world and was never mechanically or story wise connected to it. I can't remember if it was a Pro-Tour or a PTQ event, but Alice was a format in competitive magic for a season - separate from the normal Type 2. I'm having trouble pulling up specifics for you (this was MANY years ago, and early internet) but here's a wayback link to decks from the format from TheDojo.
Based on the Tournament Reports, it looks like it was the format for Pro Tour 3, and probably the associated PTQs. It wasn't some casual format, it was a real, sanctioned format. There was NEVER a sanctioned format (unless done ex-post-facto) with Ice Age/Alliances/Homelands.
I played when Ice Age was released - Ice Age/Alliances (Alice - AL iances, ICE age) was a format. It never included Homelands.
So did I - you must have stopped after homelands release (or are wanting to forget Homelands was ever part of that block). Ice age and Alliances were the first two for the block and Homelands was the third. Mirage was released after Homelands. 'Alice' was probably a homebrew thing wishing Homelands never existed.
The Homelands () expansion, released after Ice Age and before Alliances, was originally considered to be a member of the Ice Age block, although it included none of the mechanics or themes of the block.
So it looks like I was wrong about the order, Homelands was released before Alliances - which furthers the conclusion they were all originally part of the same block.

The Ice-Age block is the only block in Magic's history in which one expansion (Homelands) has been removed and replaced by a newer one (Coldsnap).
Which is exactly what I said in the post you replied to - Homelands was so bad it was the only set to have been de-blocked.
Okay. I've been quiet on this, but I actually played then. I have a 5 digit DCI number to prove it. How on earth *anyone* who played in that era could forget one of the tier 1 decks in type 2 was WillowGeddon? Literal Autumn Willow, a Homelands card, in the deck name. How could you have played sanctioned magic then and *not* know that? Every Necro deck ran Serrated Arrows, sometimes main, to kill pump knights. Feel free to keep arguing, but I am telling you, point-blank, that not only was Ice Age/Homelands/Alliances a thing, it was the *first* thing that involved a core-set + 3 expansions in DCI sanctioned magic. There is nothing else to say.

We ran those Homelands cards because we were REQUIRED to run 5 cards from each set in Type 2.

The World Championships at PT1 was played as a modified Type 2 tournament with card requirements per set. That did happen. They even released all the decks in the top 8 in a supplemental product. But that was a modified Type 2 tournament. And the only one ever to stipulate deck construction in that way. It was *not* wholly representative of the Type 2 format because it was, again, modified.

Oh, yeah and it predated Alliances anyway (so had nothing to do with Ice Age "Block")... Pro-Tour 3 (which came out AFTER homelands) was the First Block constructed Pro Tour and didn't include Homelands cards. I knew I wasn't crazy (about this). If there was ever an Ice Age "Block" that included Homelands it was done way later (and wasn't done at any real events). I remember testing like crazy for Alice events - and reading this made me think I was taking crazy pills.

Lol yeah. It was a bit much, wasn't it? But I think it was sincere...
The thing is, even if you (@WarMachinePrime) really aren't going to buy any packs, you can't really blame anyone for doubting you considering that people say the same thing all the time but rarely follow through. There's also the consideration that we've seen very few cards from the set spoiled so far, so while many people make claims like this early in the spoiler season, their opinions can and often will change once they see the rest of the set. You even acknowledged that originally, so you established you weren't completely committed to buying the set and it wasn't yet set in the stone. So if you make a claim that is commonly made but seldom followed through with, before you even know all the information that could potentially affect buying habits, I'd say a bit of skepticism is justified.
The post was phrased very rudely, but it wasn't even the main point of the post and wasn't really worth getting so offended over. The "attack on your character" wasn't the main point of the post, only an example showing a symptom of a greater problem (that is, players making empty threats and typically buying whatever is printed no matter how bad it is).
Look, what they said certainly wasn't said "in a civil and adult manner", but getting overly offended, insulting them back, demanding an apology, and threating to ignore them isn't particularly "civil and adult" either, in my opinion.

Buddy, it's the internet; no one here actually really cares about whether or not you're true to your convictions in real life. However, the more you protest about your unassailable principles, the less likely it is that anyone will actually believe you, because everyone here knows that feigned moral outrage is one of the preferred tools of practiced liars. Do yourself a favor and let it go before you give yourself an ulcer, because there is nothing else to be gained beyond the hollow and meaningless sense of personal satisfaction that can only come from arguing with strangers on the internet.
Yeah HOU hasn't exactly impressed from a gameplay point of view, and Ixalan does seem generally more interesting so far where that is concerned.
Some talk about card type balance a few pages back caught my interest though, and I have this to ask: Why do we need artifact blocks like Kaladesh or Mirrodin to have even a slim chance of true noncreature artifact strategies, or just artifact strategies in general, in Standard? Even enchantments don't have it that rough, IMO, but those are also pretty eh compared to creatures.

Because the ubiquitous nature of powerful artifacts slotting into any deck is a nightmare to balance around. A fact exhibited by R&D screwing up every single 'artifact' block ever. From Urza to Kaladesh.

artifact have the problem that they can be played by any colour. that's how you get copter showing up in every deck for example. biggest number of bans in standard? the two times we had an artifact block.
so yeah, pushed artifacts are problematic. enchantments on the other hand can be played only in their colours, so it's automatically more restrictive.

@Xaios:
Words DO matter. And you are unfortunately wrong, people ARE out there that say what they mean. To respond in words to me is to give creedence to that. If you didn't really care, you wouldn't have commented. So you do. Its too bad there are so many practiced liars out there because I am not one of them and if you truly knew me you would see that. I don't like having a wide net of dispersions cast on me for something I am not. Read my posts, ask me questions, get to know me before jumping to conclusions. You'll want me as a voice of reason. The thing is we aren't strangers either, we are all human beings and we need to act that way. The information age is driving a wedge between us more than opening us up to each other. We do that through words if we can't face to face. If you'd like to discuss civilly, I'm all for it. If not we can drop it and be on our way. I prefer discourse, I hope you do as well.
@SultaiAscendency:
I am sincere, thank you. My word is my bond. Its sad many have fallen from that over time. My actions will always speak louder than words. I can't show my actions only relate them through words on the interwebz. And thank you for saying that I was addressed rudely. I will never cast the first stone but I will cast the last. If that is a character flaw so be it, but it is me. I am open to apology and will always accept and extend that same courtesy. I hope the poster who did will but if not all I can do is support myself, which I will always defend. Thanks for the kind words and I appreciate your advice. Duly noted.
I do know that you drive a Dodge Stratus.
And I can do 100 pushups in 5 minutes. Love the Ferrell SNL skits.
For the sake of the thread I think we have derailed enough with the talk of Empires/Homelands and personal offenses, I'd imagine a fair amount of posters would like some of us to shut up and get back to the topic at hand.
So I'll reiterate, I'm still more hyped for IXA than anything I've seen from HOU. Lets see if Wizards can shut me up.

artifact have the problem that they can be played by any colour. that's how you get copter showing up in every deck for example. biggest number of bans in standard? the two times we had an artifact block.
so yeah, pushed artifacts are problematic. enchantments on the other hand can be played only in their colours, so it's automatically more restrictive.
I figured this was why, but wanted confirmation. That leads to my next question: Is it possible for colored artifacts like the Alara block artifacts and Kaladesh's Gearhulk cycle to be more commonplace?
Good call. I always imagine the discussion going something like... 'Its not even *that* good. Yanno what? Fine. We'll put Strip Mine in the set to counter it. Nothing can possibly go wrong now.'

I definitely think that it could become more common. It does tend to make the artifact subtype a disadvantage over an advantage once they get a color identity, though, which tends to make the designers compensate by making the artifact have some advantage over the colorless counterpart. All of the gearhulks are insanely good even if they all don't see equal play, and verdurous Gearhulk may see a resurgence later once rotation hits and Ixalan gets released.

Possible? Sure. But not likely. Except when there's a flavor reason to do otherwise, the general purpose of artifacts was to be cards any deck could use. Colorless is the expectation and the default; if a permanent needs to be bound to a color it could usually be implemented as an enchantment of that color, unless there's a flavor reason why it would need to be a (colored) artifact (like a plane where artifacts are everything and everywhere).
Why aren't these cards on this site under "other sets" spoilers? I can't make out anything on the sheet.
I would look them up on Mythic Spoiler they have the ones that are readable in text form. I think Jace could be pretty bonkers depending on what his other abillities are. I don't understand why we need to add Legedendary to the typing of planeswalkers unless this set is going to care about legendary.
Wikipedia is wrong. Ice Age/Alliances/Homelands MAY at one time been considered a "block." But not when the sets were in print.
It was shortly after Mirage release that it got added to the block, then - likely when they decided to standardize what a block was. As I said - my LGS had alternating Mirage and Ice Age block tournaments while Ice Age was in Type 2 - then switched to alternating Mirage and Tempest when Ice Age rotated out of Type 2. So Ice Age definitely did have sanctioned block tournaments as of Mirage which included Homelands. This would have been after the Pro Tours for it, though (since those would have been Mirage Block at that point)
As I said - I've linked 3 different sites (Wikipedia, Gamepedia and another lesser known site) and someone else linked an article from Wizard's own site that talks about Coldsnap replacing Homelands that ALL say this was the case.
If there was ever an Ice Age "Block" that included Homelands it was done way later (and wasn't done at any real events). I remember testing like crazy for Alice events - and reading this made me think I was taking crazy pills.
It has been established during this conversation (in the articles I linked) that it seems Homelands was added to the block a few months after Alliances was. So, yes, Alice did exist. That was before I was into competitive/Sanctioned magic - I got into sanctioned play around Visions (but had been playing casually since Legends) When I get into the competitive scene (again - Visions) the Ice Age block did include Homelands for sanctioned play - which meant every LGS that was running recorded sanctioned events with Ice Age Block did in fact allow Homelands cards.
I don't understand why we need to add Legedendary to the typing of planeswalkers unless this set is going to care about legendary.
It's the only way to make Jace's ultimate work. He creates copies of himself. The text reads something to the effect of "two copies of himself except they are not ?????-ry." The part before the 'ry' is cut off.
Under the current rules, if planeswalkers share a subtype then you can only keep one. It's very clear that they are going to get rid of the Planeswalker Uniqueness Rule which looks at subtype and make all planeswalkers Legendary and use the Legend rule (which cares about card name). If this change were to happen, and the last word in that ability is 'Legendary' - then the tokens would work as expected. This would also allow the 4 Nissas that are going to be in Standard after rotation be allowed in play all at the same time.

For the same reason the spoiled Dragon cards from Commander 2017 are not: Leaks without supporting evidence are treated as unconfirmed spoilers - it seems likely that if we get even a single card from a verified/official source that's confirming the whole lot. So it's a policy that separates along the thin line between "all but certain" and "confirmed".
Listed spoilers on MTGS are on the very, very safe site.

How did they....that's not good. Nope, no way. Please, for the love of all that is the health of the Magic game, MTGSalvation community, I urge you not to try to enhance this photo further. Instead I really think we should be focusing on the here and now of Hour of Devestation and let Wizards determine how to best resolve this matter.
Spoilers aren't good for us, and is certainly even worse for Wizards. Think about all the time and effort they put into spoilers, promotional campaigns, set teases and the like: entire careers are built on spoilers being prevented. This is Godbook unprecedented, and I am VERY concerned as to how someone got their hands on a full rare/Mythic sheet. I'm dumbfounded, and don't even care about these spoilers.
Not sure if I'm repeating anything someone else said here earlier, but this isn't their worst leak. You have to go back 15 years to a time when someone dumped the entire block on the internet almost a year in advance.
So how DARE you think you know even one flipping iota of what I do in my life. I practice what I preach and if you are too weak willed to follow through it sounds like you need to work on your own character skills. If I say these things I mean it. Don't project your problems onto me. Learn some respect and manners and act like an adult.
Now if you want to retract your earlier false statement about your mischaracterization of myself I'd gladly continue the conversation in a civil and adult manner. That's up to you. Or don't and onto my Ignore list you go. Ball is in your court.
I can't tell whether my favorite thing here is the tantrum you're throwing or the fact you're apparently tracking a couple small businesses you didn't like that happened to go under as personal feathers in your cap. Either way, this post made my morning.

I also have a 5 digit DCI number. Willowgeddon (and Erhnamgeddon) was TYPE 2 Not Ice Age/Alliances. GEDDON is from the card Armageddon which wasn't in Ice Age.
We ran those Homelands cards because we were REQUIRED to run 5 cards from each set in Type 2.

Is this the new Ex-marine with XX confirmed kills meme? People who like magic buy packs. You don't need to be a psychoanalyst to realize that. Maybe YOU won't buy any packs because you have righteously decided not to (and people like this are a dime a dozen and still buy the cards/packs), magic players are going to buy magic cards until the end of time. Your righteous indignation does little to convince anyone...
Feel free to tell me yours!
What made you feel you needed to butt into the conversation between myself and the other member? I don't give 2 *****s if I convince anyone or not. I do care when people presume to know how I think and say that I am wrong. I'm stating my position, he thinks I am lying. I don't take that lightly. Don't hide behind the internet with words that you wouldn't say to someone's face. Do what you need to do but don't ******* dare to pretend you know one thing about me and what I can or cannot do of my own volition.

@Xaios:
@SultaiAscendency:
Duly noted.
