People really think leaks like this ruin MTG? I hate the inorganic "spoiler season" hype train they use, I've glanced at the sheet and was drawn to a naya legendary dinosaur, now I get to sit and be hype for months on end rather than waiting for CFB or some other site Wizards are in bed with to "spoil" a card.
No one, to my knowledge, thinks this will RUIN MTG by any means, but there's a distinct possibility of it hurting the sales of HOU and of it putting further strain on a Standard format that is already at its weakest point in recent memory.
I'm torn. On the one hand, these leaks were clearly the direct result of theft, and their spoiling this far in advance of the set's release -- specifically, right at the start of Hour of Devastation's official previews -- will certainly harm sales of Hour of Devastation.
On the other hand, this set looks to be the most exciting in a VERY long time. I can't look away.
Point for WotC marketing.

I'm laughing at the amount of negative reactions to this. It doesn't hurt the players at all. If anything, we as players are able to make better financial decisions with our cards and have less feel bad moments where we trade a card that spikes in price due to new mechanics and cards. More information is never a bad thing, and this provides a crapload of information for us to make educated choices with.
I do however feel this negatively effects the smaller sites and YouTube channels that get cards to preview, granted it's just a momentary spike in viewers. That and this just gives them something else to talk/write about.
Look, my biggest problem with people cheering at leaks like this is that they seem like they want to have a laugh at Wizards and are actually encouraging illigal stuff like this, because yes, someone took photos of all these cards on just shared it with the freaking internet. How is that okay?
It´s like if a game developer were about to release a game and then suddenly a hacker, released the game to the public while everyone was cheering because the developer could just be more careful. I mean have some compassion man.
Wizards wants to tease us with their newest sets which is why the spoiler season is there. Yes it may not seem like this leak is a big deal but think about how Wizards is feeling right now. Im sure they must be really annoyed that this happend, especially because they work so hard on each set and wants to share it with their fans.
I think it´s scary to have a mindset that´s all like "Bu-hu suckers!"

But from my perspective, I am alresdhgly thinking what cards I want to include in my Grixis Pirate deck. It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.

I'm not going to ignore something that is out there though and I will discuss it as well. You can't put the cat back into the bag.
I also think its telling that Wizards hasn't spoiled anything officially yet today and this was supposed to be the big day. Internally they are furious and rightly so. This was supposed to be the slow rollout of the upcoming set, not doing damage control on a leak that they have said time and time again that they are trying to crack down on. There are some REAL problems internally at Wizards/Hasbro right now. I hope they can fix them.

How? How does it diminish the number of weeks? Wait and check back when you're good and ready. This isn't a blockbuster movie reveal, its not the Walking Dead being talked about on Facebook or some other highly public forum. It is tucked away in multiple pages of a sub-thread of a very specific forum. It's beyond easy to avoid this. Take some responsibility on how you consume the information.

There does seem to be a weird type of Schadenfreude going on. Presumably, everyone here enjoys playing the game, so it seems weird to derive any satisfaction from knowing that the company that produces it is probably in a total panic, trying to figure what happened and how to respond.
But besides all that, I don't want to have to deal with the cognitive load of separating Hour of Devastation spoilers from Ixalan Spoilers. And Ixalan isn't going to be released for another 4 months or so anyway, so I don't want to be bored of the cards by the time they actually come out.

Wizards is known for mistreating both their employers and their players, forcing them to adhere to what they desire in an unnatural form that the community has slowly come to to acknowledge when it come to set releases, information, spoilers, "leaks", reprints, etc.
Many times, WOTC throws us under the bus for even looking, even if knowledge and information like this became widespread thanks to the internet, through no fault of our own, and then blame us for simply looking? On top of that, they remove judges as an example some time ago that weren't even involved in a leak, but proudly state how criminal we are, yet we are not only 1, breaking any law, and 2, not through any fault of our own, but they blame and take it out on us? Yeah, I could care less if I am "spoiled" as I play casually, but to see a company I love attack others nonchalantly?
And yet, some of you are defending them? Asking compassion from us, when WOTC doesn't even care?

I dont think many people are happy that WotC got their stuff stolen; but they are happy because they are excited for the new set, and find claims that leaks hurt WotC financially are somewhat specious.
Let's say, for example, that you primarily play Standard, and that the next released set is hyped up to be all about powerful artifacts. Normally, you buy a box/case/however many packs of the new set, figure out how the new cards will impact Standard, and brew accordingly.
Now, let's say that the next set after that has a number of powerful anti-artifact spells, meant to balance Standard back out after a few months pf being heavily artifact-focused. Without a leak like this, you don't know those answers are coming down the pipe, so you happily purchase your packs of Set 1, brew your decks, and enjoy playing Standard as anticipated. When the spoilers for the next set and its answers roll around, guess it's time to rethink your brews, it's time for a natural metagame shift. That's how WotC plans things to be.
But with these leaks, though? What do you do if you know that in a few months time, when Set 2 releases, artifacts won't be as powerful, and you're going to have to play around artifact hate? Do you even spend money on the artifact-centric Set 1? Do you only buy the non-artifact singles that you know are gonna dodge the forthcoming hate cards and willingly play underpowered decks until Set 2 releases? Do you sit out a whole cycle of Standard? Those are the types of things WotC now has to worry about, because ANYTHING that might cause large groups of people to forgo buying product or going to events is going to negatively affect them financially and logistically.
Right now, they'd better hope to hell that HOU is a home run, because people are focusing more on Ixalan already as it is. If we get more and more leaks from Ixalan pulling attention away from HOU, or if something gets leaked that negatively impacts the way people are investing in HOU or its related Standard format, then HOU is going to be a resounding thud and their problems wind up compounded.
I just think it's lame because it diminishes the number of weeks in 2017 that I get to be excited to open up the various sites to look for new cube cards.

It's impossible to avoid this stuff on the cube forum.
In the cube subforum, preview weeks are always fun because we get to evaluate new cards together for cool cube synergies. We're going to miss that for all or almost all of the rares and mythics for the fall set. That's lame. I'm not sad or hurt or whatever. It doesn't ruin MTG or anything. I just think it's lame. Hardly a controversial perspective.
