Um, does anyone else notice that the Jace has an additional type including Planeswalker, or am I seeing things?
Many of us have talked about it in this thread. It seems to be strongly tied to the Planeswalker Uniqueness rule, and related to how the ult's ability allows copies to remain on the battlefield. I've theorised the planned rewrite of the Legend rule (and obsolescence of the Planeswalker Uniqueness rule) above.
MaRo talked on blogatog about the possibility of creating a new supertype/keyword that covers uniqueness and is separate from legendary because he dislikes that the flavorful supertype is tied to a mechanical drawback. It might be they have realised a solution with a new supertype/terminology called "unique".
It would be intersting to see whether this affects planeswalker uniqueness otherwise. It seems a very hard concept to make backwards compatible.
The close-up image of Jace's ult seems to have the last word end in "ry." It really seems to fit that is simply said "Except that they're not Legendary".
Could it just be as simple as they're abolishing the distinct "Planeswalker Uniqueness" Rule and redefining the Legendary rule to mean "Among Legendary permanents you control, if any two have the same name or planeswalker subtype..."? And errata all existing Planeswalkers to be Legendary?
It would soup up Mirror Gallery a bit, makes animated Gideons play nicer with stuff like Day of Destiny, but otherwise should make little actual impact on how existing cards play.
Regarding the white Vampire, green Merfolk: This seems reasonable and something like it should have been expected from the moment we get tribal. Tribal is the most interesting when a tribe is spread over multiple colors (for Limited especially, but it also can influence the level of decision making for Constructed deck building). So when the tribal theme came about there was a high chance of us seeing creature types branch out into new colors - and this would have to include monocolored specimen as well.
It's also just good practice to vary the colors you expand into between sets - hence Vampires are black-red in Innistrad, but white-black in Ixalan, Merfolk are white-blue in Lorwyn, but green-blue in Ixalan (note also that in sets without tribal focus there are plenty of other examples like blue-black Merrow in Shadowmoor, green-blue Selkie in Shadowmoor, blue-black Vampires on Ravnica etc.)
I think it's a smart choice to kickstart Dinosaurs on a tribal plane - it's a creature tribe that people will want to build around and due to the choice to dicontinue it in the past there is no direct support. I also like that the recently returned and blackshifted Orcs get in on the action. The healthy mix between previously supported tribes in new colors and previously unsupported tribes is going to open plenty of new opportunities for casual players.
I am looking forward to WotC not repeating their mistake from Lorwyn/Morningtide to shift the tribal focus in the second set.

[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
So does the fact that Hostage Taker goes infinite with itself and draws the game if there aren't any other artifacts or creatures on the field mean these are fake? Or are they changing the rules about the until-x-leaves-the-battlefield effects?
Seriously? Every standard set is allied lands with the exception of the fast lands and man lands cycles being complete..wizards are shown they will not print a full ten card land cycle in a block and they choose allied lands that have been printed to hell and back over the enemy that need a reprinting. Especially since ixalan feels like an enemy color set based on vraska being gb. I think this is an incorrect decision on their part for both standard and the community as a whole.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

We've been talking about that on the cube thread. It's certainly troubling, but the idea that these are fake would recquire a lot of explaination. It's an actual sheet of actually foil cards with orignal art. Not only that, it features concepts like feathered dinosaurs and pirates that were only just revealed to the public. Even if someone was crazy enough and talented enough to fake this, they wouldn't have had the time unless they had insider knowledge. The most likely explanation is a rules change, but it's certainly an oddity.

Why the devil would you assume that a set is enemy color focused because of one card? A mythic, a planeswalker even.

I'm guessing they'd remove the subtype reference as well, actually - just make Planeswalkers Legendary and remove the uniqueness rule. Yes, this would mean you could cast Jace Beleren and Jace, the Mind Sculptor at the same time. But does that matter? There's no design space around that rule - it just exists for the lore reason of "it's weird to have 2 different Jaces." But its mostly inconsistent with the Legendary rule changes - you can have a Samut, and a Samut Planeswalker, or a Jace, Vryn's Prodigy and a Jace, Telepath Unbound at the same time as it is. You can have a Jace while your opponent has a Jace. Those things already make the lore kind of dumb.
The Planeswalker Uniqueness rule adds basically nothing to the game practically speaking, so I could see them just folding it altogether and just using the Legendary rule to replace it.

I prefer they keep the uniqueness. It's not always about "practical" game mechanics, this is also a game of flavor and lore, as well as motivating the players to think further than taking a card as granted.
For example, Some people despised Shroud mechanic without realizing that some mechanics are meant to be a double edge sword, to entice player to work around such drawback. Most of the cards these days only benefit the caster and/or only harm opponents, which is powerful but also a much lazier design.
