I'm interested to see what the new core sets are going to be like. They are apparently more focused on newer players, this may be related to the fact that they will "also have a stronger integration with the sample decks, Planeswalker Decks, and Deck Builder's Toolkit, allowing for an easier transition between the products".
Don't forget half of these cards are going to be new.
Can we expect new legendary creatures to supplement commander or would that be too complicated? Is there a precedent for legendary creatures being created or reprinted for core sets?

So even the core sets will be "Large" sets of around 269 cards each. Which means when we are in full Large set deployment, Standard will have over 2000 cards to pick and chose from. That amounts to a 'free' large set worth of cards.
For example, the Scars to M13 Standard period amounted to 1743 cards total; and that period even had an extra large set in it already (Avacyn Restored). Hopefully that gives Standard the card space needed to deal with everything.

I will never understand why they need to name every core set with the number of next year, not current one.
Cars have been doing that forever.
Maybe it makes it seem fresher or something?
Pretty much. It gives them a perceived shelf life that lasts until the next one comes out. If Core 2019 was named Core 2018 but came out in 2018, six months after release casual buyers would think "ugh, I don't wanna buy last year's core set."

Because big retailers like Wal-Mart won't stock products with last year on them, meaning that come Jan 2019, they would stop stocking it if it was called M18. But if it's called M19, they'll stock it in both 2018 and 2019.

M15 even had a brand new Multicolored legendary creature in Sliver Hivelord, to go along with what people here have already named.
I always liked core sets. This is a bit bigger than previous ones, so I'm curious about the space. I really liked the guest designer cards in M15 and hope we get some like those (at least the simpler ones). This will be interesting.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Unrealistic expectations time! I want Liliana of the Veil, Damnation, a strictly better Titans cycle, Lightning Bolt, and Counterspell, or else I'm going to wail about how underpowered and dumbed down the game is getting!
In all seriousness, though, I'm excited that Core Sets are back and I'm hoping staples like Tormod's Crypt and Elixir of Immortality can find their way back.
Maro already stated that they won't be pushing cycles of cards like this due to the power level of the cards continually declining compared to the first card that was actually designed. He barely stated that in metamorphosis 2.0 which is linked to a few posts up.

It's funny how people complain about power levels on some cards because they're weaker than old cards. I remember from back in Stronghold, when Shock was revealed. People complained because it was a weaker Lightning Bolt, yet it gave sligh decks the edge they needed to be competitive in the environment. People need to remember that just because a card is weaker than one that was printed previously, it doesn't mean it is a bad card. It may just be exactly what is needed for its environment to give certain decks the edge they need to be competitive.

It's mostly "This card is not the eternal format staple" type of complaint.
That's silly, because people who play Legacy/Vintage have most of the cards they need, and people who play Modern have Modern Masters to fill in gaps. They need to realize that the core sets are not for them, it is for people playing standard and new players. The rest of us have the summer multiplayer products, the commander decks, and the various masters sets and various other auxiliary products to give us stuff. Some people need to realize that not every product is targeted to them specifically..... But I am getting of track here.
Seriously though, the Core sets are great for both new and old players, because half the stuff is new, and I can tell you, there's a reason why the Titans (except primordial) have basically become staples of the commander format, they're just that good, even though they're fairly simple in their design. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we get a new cycle of "titan"esque cards in M19. Very powerful "chase" mythics that are still fairly simple in their design.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

I'm hoping for a lot of archetype cards in this set.
One can hope. But the chance of it happening outside of auxiliary products is sadly close to zero.
That would be pretty cool actually.

I fully expect that M19 will contain a lot of staples such as Pacifism, Naturalize, Cancel, a common black removal spell (possibly Murder), and Lightning Strike.

Your post blew my mind - I can't believe how long it's been since some of those cards were in Standard.
I can't help but feel this is why Standard has sucked - it's missing its core (its heart).
