How might cards like Jace and Azusa settle, you think? I should have expected them to follow the Mana Drain trend. First week, 90, 2 weeks out, stabilized at 60 and stuck.
Rudy was thinking 10 per filter land, but I'm saying more like 8-9 dollars because no one really needs them. They are basically just an over-priced dead card that will only have minor EDH demand.
Think lower. No one really needs these and the minute amount of decks that run them usually only run 1 or 2, not a playset. They will be 5 bucks in a month or two time.
There are a bunch of other garbage cards that will drop like bricks as well. No one wants Master of the Wild Hunt at 4 bucks. They won't want him at 2 bucks. The list goes on and on. Tree of Redemption, Akroma, Gisella, Protean Hulk, Vindicate, Armageddon, Magus of the Wheel, Strionic, Darien, etc etc. All these cards listed at 2 or 3 bucks are going to be dollar or less bulk in a couple months time. Frankly that is a good thing as the cards are artificially high because of many never seeing a reprint. I'm not going to take that depreciation hit as an early adopter, others should consider that as well.

Well at the M25 event today Azusa was trading around $12-$15 CDN (around 8-10 USD) and Jace around $110 CDN (around 85-90 USD). People were more interested in Chupacabras and Mesmeric Friends, which was kinda yikes.

Ugh. This set is so bad on so many levels. Now I'm torn about paying $75 for a sealed M25 pPTQ today. On one hand, the set is pure garbage and isn't worth the money, but I also want to support my LGS. After all, they were saddled with this crap.
Just buy up to that 75 dollars in merchandise that is reasonably valued instead. Don't support something you don't want at a price that is ripping you off. Then let the LGS owner nicely know why. When people say Wizards doesn't "owe" us anything, the shoe fits the other foot as well. You don't "owe" them or the LGS anything either. They have to earn your dollar.
Well, I ended up doing it anyway. My pulls actually recouped the $75, with their value as of today, anyway. I went 2-2 drop. I'd have stayed in, but I had a wife and baby at home that I wanted to get to. If my record was better, I would've stayed. The sealed environment, like most, was hit or miss. My pool just didn't have enough removal. I still had fun, but it was evident that this set is not what it should've been.
Those watermarks though. So nice.

After seeing how low the filter lands have dropped, this set isn't even worth anywhere close to $160 a box. It's officially worse value than Iconic Masters. See yall at the $140 mark.

I saw one BIN at 140 and hesitated. It's not even worth that if it's a Tree over Jace.
As someone who's played MTG off and on for just under 25 years, I've never been more disappointed. Just broke 2 boxes of my 4box case and there was ~$50 in the first box and ~$60 in the second box (no port/recruiter/jace; 4 total mythics all under $2)... that's a ~$270 loss. The floor for a $185-$240 product should be no lower than ~$100.
All this after what was the last two Masters sets too. I'm taking a break that's for sure... probably a very long one.
I'm just watching the devestation on TCGPlayer. The land cycle already bombed below 10 usd per card, everything is going exactly as people were expecting with this, and the uncommons are holding more value than many of the mythics and rares. Those boxes are dropping faster than a rock as well and I'm glad I had cancelled my orders.
I regret buying singles early-ish. I bought 3 Azusas for $16.25 a piece but frankly it looks like next week they'll be 10 bucks. I wish I held back on Pact of Negaitons for $12 a pop considering they may approach $5-7 at this rate. I should have been patient.
Thank heavens I didn't get animar yet
$17 before now $13
Going to wait and see if I get lucky on easter
Sigh, making me feel worse for getting impatient. My friends told me the best time to buy is right now, but I remember Mana Drain dropping to its lowest 2 weeks after release, not the day of, actually. There is a point though where prices will begin rebounding, though. Cryptic Command for example dropped to ~15.50 and then doubled almost instantly.
Man you guys usually keep forgetting this concept
That happened because of how played cryptic command is
Modern is why it jumped like that
Animar is commander exclusive should pn't budge too much compared to the money cards.

I, personally, really like the filters, especially for EDH, but even I never liked them enough to pay ~$20 for one.
Given how livid the feedback is even on official wizards channels I really hope they got the message. Man, this year might be one of the worst years Magic has gone through since Dark Steel. You know it's bad when the first thing wizards PR says makes you want to start squeezing the stress ball.

With Masters being yet another flop, at least critically, and this past few years not being great for Magic I do have hope for Dominaria, as just half the set looks great, and the Challenge Decks does show that they can do the Event Decks right. Perhaps this might be the turning point after a few years of shaky ground WotC has been going through.
Just brutal. Calling it now, next Masters set better rule, or thats the end of Masters.
The only reason why Wizards of the Coast has been oversaturating the market with Masters sets in the first place was to make up for Hasbro not being able to sell any Star Wars merchandise.

Also, Hasbro is owed money from Toys R Us, which is liquidating. That event will put more financial pressure on Hasbro, so they might tell Wizards to make a better reprint set to shore up the financials.

Well then they should start thinking about oversaturating with some good sets. All the sets in the world, if they suck, wont help anything.

They could. or……………… they could say. Hey Wizards we need more cash flow, cut corners wherever you can, raise the MSRP on all products and cut back drastically on any give aways and promotions.
Their current track record leaves me with no confidence. How about Dominaria just being an RBI double in the gap, not wishing for the Home Run or Grand Slam but just a good solid set and they go from there. Guess we will see. The pessimist in me is winning out though.

It's more likely all on Dominara at this point because the challenger decks are really designed to cash in on the rotating standard. They excluded cards from Ixalan and later knowing that most of the deck will be worthless in about 4 months post release.

Valid point. But I was referring to Azusa perhaps following the same trends as Cryptic, since they're both played rares in these sets.
I opened 4 boxes for my LGS, we were quite happy with the outcome.
We also sold all of our boxes (20) during weekend and had whooping 19 people at FNM draft (I'm quite happy when there are 8 for usual, standard sets).
Most of our customers were at least moderately happy with the set.
From what I have seen, there were a lot of Imperial Recruiters flying around but not a single Rest in Peace, weird.
I'm actually surprised that it went so well, because I was skeptical after seeing full spoiler and the way that they conducted foiling on set symbols (why weren't they glossy and foiled???)
It's a matter of who is buying the boxes. I don't believe that this set is good, but that won't stop drafters or casual players who just pick up the latest set anyway from buying the initial stuff on hype. Wizards basically survives off of hyping sets as hard as possible and then start the next set just before the last one gets to release. This is to make sure logical thought doesn't have time to catch up with the emotional responses.
That and a lot of people just roll back on their orders instead of completely cancelling. Plenty of people are still buying a box, but you'll hear about many that just cancelled an order of a case down to a box.
