Really I think Star of extinction is not going to kill them all off in this.
Besides almost positive more dinosaurs are going to be printed in rivals of ixalan.
Agreed. It's not story spotlight, so it's probably just a flavorful top-down design for an iconic dinosaur trope. Plus ruining one of the most iconic and popular aspects of the plane - before the block is over, no less - would not make much sense at all.
It would also be ridiculously annoying. That would be what feels like the latest in a billion times of WOTC essentially destroying a beloved/interesting plane. Mirrodin, Zendikar, Innistrad, Amonkhet.
It's time to stop.
No more multiversal threats. No more doomsdays. Let's just have some fun and explore.
Agree. I had wanted return to Zendikar to be that again. I loved original Zendikar and Theros. They had this charming 'explore the natural world' vibe to them. The former for archaeology, the latter for daily life on a plane with mythical threats and gods. I think Ixalan may have the same theme which I would like. If they need tension, Vraska and Jace are there and have history. There's no need for apocalypse every time.
ZEN and WWK were so much fun. John Avon Explore ;__; I hope we get Explore in standard again!

I'd like to point out none of the worlds have been destroyed and Zendikar is basically reset back to statue quo minus the areas the eldrazi ate. We also just had Kaladesh which was more self contained, and neither Ravnica, Tarkir, Theros or Kamigawa have been trashed. Alara and Lorwyn/Shadowmoor have been altered idk if you'd call them trashed.
I think having a conflicts on that big of scale is something wizards is good at showing and it help the different sets in a block have thier own identity, so now we are moving to the blockless plan I think just visiting a world is more of an option.

Kaladesh was more self contained, but remember that while it wasn't a plane wide disaster the portal Tezzeret and Bolas wanted would have become a multiplanar threat, so in a way it was the furthest reaching story since Time Spiral.
Tarkir was a little trashed, since an entire version of it disappeared thanks to time shenanigans. Sure, it's still there, just not the original version of it.
After that you are certainly correct, it's really only been Zendikar, Innistrad, and Amonkhet which have more or less been destroyed since Origins and the only one before that was Mirrodin/New Phyrexia.

And I'd personally argue that the new Tarkir is a lot less interesting than the old Tarkir.
After two gloom/doom blocks I think they will shift the pendulum with this block, so definitely no plane-ending apocalypse on Ixalan.
I also think they're going to try to go for what they missed in BFZ: "Adventureworld". One of MaRo's biggest regrets about BFZ block is that they chose to focus on (in his opinion) the wrong thing: Eldrazi, and not the adventure aspects of Zendikar. From what I've seen so far, Ixalan feels like it could very easily scratch that itch. We probably won't get allies but I could certainly see some new traps and quests...curses too?

Well, that whole problem with BFZ block really started with original Zendikar block; because of how they ended it, with the eldrazi free, they really didn't have much choice but to first address the elephant in the room, and wrap up that plot thread. They wrote themselves into a corner. Ixalan has no story threads tying it down, so they can largely do what they want with the story and flavor.
And not to mention most of them historically accurate (reminder most dinosaurs have scales only some breeds have feathers.)
and one mistake that they made is recently the t-Rex was discovered to not have feathers (paleontologist in china found a t-Rex with skin pattern and it was scaley like we all know the dinosaurs.)

Since this is all fantasy, I could care less about historical accuracy, so long as the dinosaurs look cool. Fortunately they do, so far.

To be fair the only feathered dinos we have discovered are theropods, and the only Ixalan dinos with feathers are Theropods. So there's that.

Yes indeed I know that.
All I'm saying is recently the all dino feathered thing is as of today now starting to become a overkill prediction because of some skin patterns discovered recently mostly the scales that we all say in the previous films.
I'm ok with theropods having feathers in ixalan because that's what the discovery was focused on.
Do you think dinosaurs will only be in Naya colors? I really want some blue Mosasaur and stuff (please don't discuss now if they're real dinosaurs, I don't care.)
Oh definately we should see some splash of UB dinosaurs
And I'd personally argue that the new Tarkir is a lot less interesting than the old Tarkir.
AMEN.
I honestly don't understand that decision—
they go through all the effort to finally give proper names and identities to the wedges,
only to completely erase that by the end of the block?
How is that productive?
Now that I think about it, they more or less did the same thing with Alara.
They're going to need to do some serious retconning with either plane
for a return to be appealing for me.

With Tarkir, they made the mistake of overvaluing how popular Dragons are*, and undervaluing how much people liked wedges.
I don't think they need to retcon a return though, they did hint at dissent in the ranks of the dragonlords, and remnants of the old clans still existing, so I think a return would be open conflict between the dragonlords and a resurgence of the clans.
Particularly if they specify that the dragonstorms only happen while Ugin is physically present on the plane, so if he's gone the storms stop, no more new Dragons, and the clans see the opportunity to strike.
*That's absolutely not to say Dragons aren't popular. They're the most popular race(species) in Magic. But people also really seem to like wedges.

What do you mean by "would have"?
Tezzeret got the core of the transporter to Bolas,
which Bolas obviously plans on using to transport his army of eternals.
The SDCC planeswalker art kind of implies that Bolas also uses the portal
to separate the mindwiped Gatewatch,
much like the Siege Perilous arc in X-Men.

If/when they return to Tarkir, I hope they finish the command cycle with enemy-paired ones. Maybe with commands of anti-Dragon rebelion leaders?
Considering abundance of themes in Ixalan - Mesoamerican lore couldn't carry entire block on its back because people generally know ***** about it. MaRo talked about how hard it was to find Egyptian mythology tropes that were widely recognizable for Amonkhet, with pre-Columbian background I imagine it even harder.

Exactly
Sadly we don't have access to conspiracy nor xenograft and the upcoming one in ixalan.
(reminder most dinosaurs have scales only some breeds have feathers.)
This is outdated science. Recently evidence has revealed feathers present in specimens on both sides of the saurischian/ornithischian divide, and since that divide occured right at the beginning of dinosaur evolution, all dinosaurs must have had at least the potential to have feathers. If they didn't have them, it means it must have been evolutionarily advantageous to lose them. With our current knowledge it's more correct to say featherless dinosaurs were the exception rather than the rule.
