Dinosaur better be its own creature type. No more of this lizard/beast BS.
Yeah cause it is so great when they make a new tribe for a specific blocks flavor..and then that tribe dies horribly because of lack of support, those are great times.

So it's better that they don't exist at all? Hey, I wish we got more ninjas, but I'm glad they at least exist.

Or maybe you Type them as beasts. So you know..they can fit into beast tribal.
And the dinosaurs gets it's own subtype confirmed huh.
They better do the same thing with the older dinosaur cards change them from lizards to dinosaurs (example first called mummy's near alpha now just zombies same with spirits used to be called ghosts.)
And another thing I better see I'm a Dino expert they better make some with nothing but scales. And yes some dinosaurs have feathers and also seas creatures

They should have the Type "Zombie Mummy." that maintains the flavor of what they are specifically while keeping it viable within a tribe, but Zombie is far preferable because it means that it fits into an existing tribe.

Well it seems dinosaurs will be a supported tribe down the line and older dinosaurs will get erratas.

YES!!! I can use the older ones if they make the right stuff for a dinosaur tribal in ixalan.
and in 3 years we can all lament how "dinosaurs." are an unplayable tribe because it got 2 support cards, a bunch of meh creatures and nothing else ever again.
Just like every other Tribe that shows up in one block and vanishes for years, You are cheering your tribe getting completely kneecapped by having a creature type that is far too specific and thus missing out on a ton of support. It happens EVERY time they introduce a new tribe, Your Dinosaurs would be mechanically served by just having the beast type. I would advocate for Beast Dinosaur as a typing but just having them be Dinosaur is going to make them unplayable like Samurai are right now.

No, I believe that Dinosaur as a type will be much more similar to Ninja (a beloved but also very small tribe which got a few new cards down the line) than it will be to Samurai or Naga (both of which don't have good support casts, aren't very interesting mechanically and, in the case of Naga, are reducing an actually supported, but already small tribe, namely snakes). If you give Dinosaurs "Beast" as a secondary type you will have the situation that there will be a few beast decks with maybe the strongest Dinosaur/Beast lord in it, but the rest will be the already established Beast lords and support cards. "Dinosaur" would be nothing more than flavor text. And of course you are seriously underestimating the coolness factor of Dinosaurs as a tribe. They won't establish such a long awaited tribe and then do nothing with them.

A few cards for Ninja? Ninjas got 2 cards since Kamigawa and neither of them are really "Support." They -will- Establish a "long awaited tribe" and do nothing with them because they have before. Under Supporting Tribes is something they have done since the dawn of the game. Snakes, Ninjas, Samurai, Naga, Jackal, Spirits. If they make Dinosaurs an official tribe instead of putting them under beast something just as bad as "Just stuff Dinosaurs into already made beast decks." Will happen. You will just stuff the Dinosaurs into a deck with a random general..and lode it out with other good stuff. At least if they are beasts they will fit into A tribe.
They have no idea what they are doing anymore. Aztec themed set could work very well on it's own. But now we add dinosaurs, and pirate gorgons. There is even a mecha cat which looks like its from Kaladesh? It looks to me like they are trying too hard to be random and quirky, and failing at it.
From what I hear, the pirate gorgon is Vraska, who's a planeswalker.

Well true but it just accured to me.
What if dinosaur or pirates is the unexspected tribe for commander 2017 just to promote ixalan and some of the cards from the set and plus isn't dinosaur another popular creature type before magic exist just like with dragons.

It not impossible, as there are a surprising number of dinosaurs in magic (as I pointed out in another thread, complete with list), none of which are on the reserved list. No, not even Magmasaur or Pygmy Allosaurus.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Or maybe you Type them as beasts. So you know..they can fit into beast tribal.
Also Cats, Hounds, Squirrels, Rats, Wolves, Humans and all should be Mammal tribal. Or make it Animal tribal, so we can have Birds in there, too. That's more satisfying because it's easier to support!
...or ... maybe... maybe there is a benefit to making the distinction between subsets. And maybe Dinosaurs are evocative and distinct enough that they can be called out as their own group. After all they are distinct enough that people literally asked for a Dinoaur plane. That's the word they use. Not Beast plane or prehistoric plane.
I can understand that people want to group some creature types together like Naga and Snake , Vishino and Lizard. And that's understandable since no one would think to ask for a "Naga plane". I think Dinosaurs show their distinctiveness through these word choices - reflecting their ability to fascinate and to set themselves apart from other groups of animals.

[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
I AM SO EXCITED! This was fantastic news - I've tried so many times to make a dinosaur deck and they're always terrible. That's okay though because I like the flavor but my friends always crack the joke that I don't have any dinosaurs in my dinosaur deck which kills it! This is fantastic news!
You have a dinosaur deck too? Dino bros high five!

The land that was mesoamerica covers a large area and has been a hotspot for fossil discoveries. If you fold the timelines of history over themselves then this inspiration makes sense. Also, the art style of the mesoamerican people fits well for a type of people that would live in/around/potentially domesticate dinosaurs if the timelines could ever collide (in an alternate reality of fantasty there is no reason it couldn't).
They've already said in the past that they're worried about the amount of design space that dinosaurs have which has kept them from digging into a plane dedicated to only dinosaurs. This way, we get the chance to experiment and see if it's worth exploring further with their own plane.
This is goofy, off the wall, exciting, creative, and the art looks inspired. From what I gather from your posts, I would hate a plane designed from your perspective. It would seem eternally dull. I don't need to retrace history with these sets. This is a fantasy game that suits this kind of set perfectly.
Yep, those dinosaurs aren't "scientifically accurate" at all. It's just speculation that is being pushed as fact. I see some sauropods (those long-neck, huge dinosaurs) with feather wig, but sauropod category does not have any feathers or proto-feathers as they're unrelated to theropods and there was never found any fossils that would indicate sauropods having them. I also see huge theropods (t-rex and his parrot friend), which are very unlikely to have had actual feathers like the smaller, bird-related theropods who does have feathers, since their lineages are still very far apart. There is a possibility they could have had a thing called proto-feathers, which honestly looks more like fur than actual feathers, and even then there's no actual fossil proof on that, safe for one species that lived in cold climate and was covered in fur-like proto-feathers to retain heat. So yeah, if you see something that looks like actual feathers on anything else than smaller or medium, raptor like dinosaurs, that is fantasy, not realism.
Except, you know, they've actually found fossilized feathers on some dinosaurs.

Left and down of the medusa pirate. But now that I look at it, it isn't a cat, it's a cannon.
