I just thought I'd throw my hat into the ring. I move out mid August and I have to pay all sorts of deposits and such and my job isn't that great in terms of income, but speaking as the guy that bought 5/9 of the promos on this page yesterday after selling LotV and Tarmogyf MM17 among a few other things, it wouldn't be unreasonable to spend $600 to add a few more silver bordered promos to the binder (which is also full with a 120/136 foil Unhinged set (sans lands) that I regularly construct a silver bordered EDH out of) and to later add to that selfsame deck.
There are people who are carefully considering the pricetag. Like me. I'd rather pay $600 + expenses up front, than to pay that same plus shipping and handling later and miss out on all of the weekend fun.

That said, if my pipe dreams don't pan out, I would definitely like to get my hands on those silver bordered promos, for anyone who is going.
(Edit: Apparently my craptacular phone can't Photobucket and I haven't found anything on these forums to suggest how to upload a photo, can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks)
$600 is a bare minimum ticket price that is only applicable if you live within a reasonable driving distance of Providence, RI. If not, you'll be spending at least double that including the flight and accommodation and likely much more. Quite a bit of money to be surrounded by children and advertisements for a weekend. Can you honestly not think of a better trip than voluntarily exposing yourself to childrens' marketing for a few days? Like by all means do what makes you happy but have any of you considering this seriously thought it through and considered what else you could do for $1200 over a weekend? I'm honestly kind of blown away.
Well, frugal as I am, I'd likely bus up there and back which SHOULD save some funds from airfare. And I'd likely room cheaply. Plus, I'm in the theme park industry, where I'm surrounded by kids and kid advertising daily. I'd mostly be going for the Magic stuff (for me) and depending on what is available, maybe some kid stuff for my daughter.
Edit: Plus, I have a brony friend who, if one of the promos were a MLP crossover, would lose his mind and probably risk his collection for that. I would find a certain glee in that little bit of Sadism, followed by a simple: "no."
Well, this isn't truly the first time they've done this. I mean, there are those six Robot Chicken cards. I guess those are apparently just a sticker over a real card but still close enough to have value to a collector I'm sure.
I don't think this really cheapens the game. If they do it in silver border, it's just a fun side thing for folks who like it.
For that price, they should assure the people going that they'll get like redone ABU duals or something to that extent. You're going to be paying more at the convention, plus food and drinks for those 21 and over. Then gas/flight fare. I mean that's just too much.

Yeah unless you live nearby or have a lot of cash doing the VIP ticket is a bit much. For a normal weekend ticket it isn't too much if you have been planning it long enough.
