I don't know if this has already been posted somewhere, but apparently there has been a slight change of how often you can expect a masterpiece in an Amonkhet booster compared to Kaladesh or Aether revolt. In my picture, the left side is the bottom of a kaladesh booster box, with a german Amonkhet booster from my pre-release on the right.
So from what I understand from these numbers, masterpieces are slightly more common now, which is pretty cool, I think. It might just be a little bit, but we had noticably more masterpieces this time at my pre-release, among the lucky ones me and a friend pulling a spell pierce in the two-headed event. Who knows if this is just for Amonkhet, but I thought it might be of interest to some of you guys nonetheless.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
My first thought would be that it's because the "value" of these Masterpieces aren't as high as previous Masterpiece series, but I can't really see Wizards doing that.
So, based on the the text given, it's based on cards granted, and not packs opened.
Interesting....
Well, considering packs have the same number of cards, it's basically the same thing.
Right. I was just commenting on the fact that it has been clarified that chances need to be multiplied by 15 if you are looking at these stats thinking it was ~20,000 packs to (likely) grant a Masterpiece.

Great, so these hideous things are slightly more common than the much better Ultra Mythics we had before
Can the people who have actually seen these weigh in?
Are they any less disappointing looking in person?
They look like trash, and I'd never ever keep or trade for one. They honestly look worse IRL, which amazed me. My overall reaction was that they look like a kid's school art project.

My friend opened a Counterbalance in his prize packs, so I got to look at one up close. It looks better in person but they're still pretty mediocre in terms of appearance.
My pre-released first pod got about 4-5 masterpieces
and I got Loyal Retainer from prize pack
so I guess it's increase frequency as you post
I love that finally after masterpiece first introduced (Zendikar?)
I got my first masterpiece
My first thought would be that it's because the "value" of these Masterpieces aren't as high as previous Masterpiece series, but I can't really see Wizards doing that.
See, my first thought was: Slightly changed process of distributing them in packs that changes the allocation rate for technical reasons.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

I think they look better in person, up to the point where I'm considering getting stuff like containment priest for my edh collection. The foiling really helps overcome the dull brown, stone frame. The smaller artwork still hurts those cards a lot, though, it's just such a stupid idea to even do this with a type of card that should really awe players. Especially when you look at pieces like cryptic command, wrath of god and consecrated sphinx. They are beautifully illustrated, with plenty of detail in them, but literally no room to show it off. Overall, a lot of missed opportunity with those expeditions from a personal point of view.
