At long last, the much speculated cycling-embalm combo creature has been revealed. I like it. It seems fun in limited.
The deserts look pretty strong on their own if you can afford the disadvantage in mana fixing, and if there are going to be more synergies with them... then damn. These could be pretty great.
Also, Cradle of the Accursed tells us that there are monuments outside the Hekma, and demons live there (Archfiend of Ifnir). So when we finally get around to the battle with Razaketh, we know that it's going to be outside Naktamun.

A 3/3 flyer for 5? Filler.
A 3/3 flyer for 5 with cycling? Not bad.
A 3/3 flyer for 5 with cycling AND self-recursion? Pretty dang good. Not exceptional, but solid.

So the real reason you didn't reprint Desert is because you were too busy designing cool new "desert" cards that you think are so iconic that you wish you replaced that crappy old card with time travel with these new ones, right wizards?
Grasping Dunes is quite... interesting? It could see some play somewhere, and in limited it's a nice filler land in a 2 color deck (not that I can recall any 1/1s in the format for it to kill). But it's so much text for so little value.
Oketra's Attendant - We knew this was going to be in the set. We probably knew it was going to be uncommon. And here it is. But it makes it quite odd that there's ANOTHER overcosted 3/3 cycler bird in white in the set. To show off "cycling + embalm" we should have had an efficiently costed creature with a slightly undercosted embalm to make you think about cycling it to embalm it, rather than getting the creature twice. This is boring in every way imaginable, but might see some play in some cycling decks. If those are things. Given we haven't seen the rest of a drake haven cycle, I'm inclined to guess cycling won't be a thing. At which point, why print it in the set?
Cradle - I understand this is a "man land that comes into play untapped" - but it's no Stalking Stones. If this had a life activation, or cost like 2 (so it'd be comparable to a bear?) - maybe. But 3? It's like wizards forgot we've seen cards like this before and just made filler. And yeah, searchable with that one green cycler is cute... but if you need the creature, you'd play the cycling creature not cycle for the land that you have to sac to get a smaller creature...
I've never understood why female aven have breasts.
Which is it Wizards?? Are they mammals or birds???
They also shouldn't have arms/forelimbs, so I think anatomy ought to be tossed on that one. Particularly because the aven on this plane are basically human from their collarbone down.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)

Yes.
Aside from that, the card looks great for limited.
Cradle of the Accursed is going to be one of the monuments to the dead from the time before Bolas wrecked the world, from where the accursed zombies originate.

as much as I think your right, it could also be the ruins of another 'city' like the one there in now (has the name been said?) that bolas is using, consuming, and reproducing for some reason.
Remember Bolas is/was all about regaining the power of a pre-mending planeswalker
The "Desert" thing seems a bit forced and unnecessary so far. Just because you can do something, that doesn't mean you should. Didn't they learn after no one cared about Gates?
This entire set seems to be just full of unnecessary heavy handed corporate groupthink style decisions. The pointless top-down Desert theme, the Invocation frame, the Aftermath frame, Bolas horns EVERYWHERE, Gods - what's going on?
Viscera Dragger's white flying sister is pretty good and comes with a nice token.
The deserts are awesome. I hope there are more cards like Shefet Monitor. Prepare for desert-toolbox.dec Edit: Oh, calling it now: There's a sand wurm with p/t equal to the number of deserts.
And a card that turns normal lands into colorless deserts. They already missed that with wastes, though.
I just now saw that Rhonas seems to have a pet hydra in the masterpiece art, how cute.

How are Gods not fitting for a Mythology top-down set?

I didn't say they don't fit, I said they're an unnecessary corporate groupthink decision. Again, just because you can do something that doesn't mean you should. Are we going to get a cycle or two of indestructible Legendary creatures that turn on and off every time Creative gets lazy and copies a dead real world culture from now on?
I actually like the cards with the desert subtype. Granted, they aren't very strong, but they already feel less gimmicky than gates. They make sense from a flavor standpoint too, because Amonkhet is literally 90% desert.

Exactly. Solid solid pick in limited.
If it ain't got the Bolas horns™ guarantee of quality, it ain't a Bolas product.

The flavor text for Honored Hydra implied as much, though it's cool to see them actually "follow through" with it here.
