Though this is a great card and I want all the copies, I'm waiting the card that does this to permanents with enter the battlefield triggers. Shut down that crazy cat lady and every combo deck like it.
Very nice red hatebear, pity it doesn't trigger for planeswalkers too but you can't have everything lol.
In standard the biggest effect is on Vehicle activation but Clue tokens, Tower, Marvel, manlands and Evolving Wilds also suffer.
In modern and legacy it's much more powerful, hurts fetchlands a lot (although doing so does boost Death's Shadow) as well as a boatload of other things (like Sensei's Divining Top in legacy).
Alround solid card that is sure to see some play and to maintain/grow value.
You forgot the Legacy all star Deathrite Shaman.
Lol, that was a part of the "boatload of other things".
You a million other people. This is getting a ton of hype, it's a known quantity. Speculation is going to drive the price of this card up massively from day one, it's not going to be another Eidolon.

I dont think it will be another Eidolon but possibly a good supporting card in another way and vs certain math ups. And yes the hype will drive up the early price like many Standard cards. Damn Gideon is $40 already and I remember places selling Voice of Resurgence the first few weeks for $40 now its like $12/13 and Im sure other more extreme examples out there. Im gonna wait on getting this, probably play test a proxy to see how well it runs in my decks.
Blue counterspells are too strong, but red pinging you for doing half of the things you could possibly do is okay. Yep, totally okay.
There's my bit of whine out of the way. Now for the card it is all sorts of good, hurts a lot of different decks for doing a lot of the things they love to do. Oh you want to equip Cranial Plating or sac a bunch of things to your Arcbound Ravager? Well have fun killing yourself. This thing basically neuters a lot of random infinite combos in various formats and it being a 2/2 for 2 makes it playable even if they are not doing those shenanigans.
Is this finally reds 2 drop? (Like Goyf, Bob, Snapcaster, and Stoneforge Mystic)
Come now, its not gonna warp formats. It... dies to a stiff breeze.
so does Bob, stoneforge, and snapcaster (despite the latter basically always getting you value before it dies) what's your point?
The idea is that 3 of the 4 "op 2 drops" if not answered, will go a long way towards winning the game while the 4th provides a ton of value towards controlling the game which will indirectly lead to a win.
This card seems to have a similar effect and at the least will stall the game until they find the removal.
I feel like this could be ubiquitous in red decks like stranglehold is to slow down combo(edh) I can only hope it's affordable for a short time before getting too high
It's obviously a critical card in a sinister combo.
Donate Blinking Spirit. Activate Mindslaver. On their turn, as many times as necessary, have them activate Blinking Spirit which they now control. Every activation triggers Harsh Mentor, causing them 2 damage per activation.
Sure. Take away the Indestructibility though. See?
This guy is GREAT. Great way to shake things up. This will force a lot of comfortable people (and comfortable decks) to take another look at things because once this card enters the environment, many things have to change. THIS IS EXACTLY WHY THIS GAME IS AROUND TWENTY YEARS LATER, FOLKS.
A "broken" two-drop red creature—White has Stoneforge Mystic. Blue has Snapcaster Mage. Black has Dark Confidant. Green has Tarmogoyf. There are those who believe red is missing its addition to the cycle. I and others have offered up suggestions—Goblin Piledriver, Goblin Recruiter, and Young Pyromancer—but none met the mysterious criteria, and the request continues to this day.
A fair point--it is a similar enough card. However, MaRo's comments were from two years after Eidolon was printed.
About the only thing that gives me pause (besides, yes, its similarity to Eidolon) is the fact it's not a Mythic Rare like the other four in the cycle. That was part of the deal, I'd imagine. I guess they wanted this card to be relatively obtainable--a gift to players, basically. (Can't speak for anyone else but I certainly appreciate it.)
I'm sure someone will confirm this on his Blog before too long. If I'm wrong and there's something better coming, well, then God help us all. This guy is pretty strong.

Those creature didn't start off as Mystics. Also, I'm not sure what deal are we talking about.
Harsh Mentor is going to be awesome in standard as vehicle hate, maybe frontier. I don't see it happening in Modern/Legacy because you cannot drop him into play on the first turn to hurt opponent from playing the first fetchland, therefore he's going to be a late game card... and Exquisite Firecraft could be just as effective in the late game.

Yep, this was also addressed above. I agree with you. He is certainly at the right power level though. This guy cripples some strategies or severaly hamstrings them. I think he's gonna be a nice shot in the arm for Modern red decks featuring the likes of Blood Moon/Ensnaring Bridge too.
Who knows. (MaRo does.) Someone will ask him soon enough.

He is exciting, and it seemed this set has a good number of exciting creatures, especially for those looking to play mono red.
If Eidolon is not equal to Stoneforge Mystic, Snapcaster Mage, Dark Confidant, Tarmogoyf... then this red guy must be one hell of a beast! And mono Red will welcome this guy with open arms.
New players are getting confused between "creature" and "creature card" is probably why this is worded the way it is.
Competitive: GW Hatebears - UG Infect - BGW Liege Rhino
Casual: GR Titan Ramp - BR Aggro

Lol, that was a part of the "boatload of other things".

BRGKresh the BloodbraidedBRG, A box of lands and ideas.
Modern:
RG Titanshift. A deck made of cards too stupid for EDH.
Retired: Lots. More than I feel you should suffer through or I should type out.

Hahaha I love it.
Why not Shuko?
Please try and read his comment again. Then yours.
He neutrally pointed out a simple interaction. You immediately kneejerk and become defensive.
If you want to change the perception about blue mages, this is not the way to do it.

Oh, and this is also surely the 'Missing Red 2-Drop' (Stoneforge Mystic, Snapcaster Mage, Dark Confidant, Harsh Mentor, Tarmogoyf) we've been waiting forever to get. (MaRo hinted just last year(?) this would get done soon. )

You don't need to provide a source, I believe you if you confirm it. It's just contrary to what I've read by him.
Then again, nobody is consistent.

Yes we will and with the 1 cost instead of the so will multi colored decks.
I mean it hits Fetches and a few cards in various decks, but it really just craps on that deck.
