People have been saying that "'this planeswalker' or 'that one' are going to die in the current block" for a long time. Pretty much since Elspeth died in Theros block, they've gotten especially bold. It's mostly wishful thinking that completely disregards the fact that all of Wizards' profitability comes from its intellectual property, and with planeswalkers being among their their most valuable, they aren't going to just kill them off willy-nilly.
Heck, it's STRONGLY implied that we haven't seen the last of Elspeth, so even though she "died," because of how Theros works as a plane, she's not actually gone.

Yeah, it's more likely that Bolas just takes one of them as his slave/servant/whatever.
I dunno, I think I'm seeing too many pseudo-functional reprint rares this set. A lot of very slight tweaks on older cards/mechanics instead of much in the way of innovative design
I'm seriously trying to figure out where to put this card in this deck, but I don't want to take out the cast outs or the fumigates, because both of those do very important things in this deck. I was considering using the slots reserved for my 2 of Oketra for that, but she survives wraths and reubilds my board very easily.
I like this card it seems very good in my naya commander that runs, all the doubling effects in green. I think it makes sense in white and is not a break in the color pie.

More likely in comparison, not super likely in general. Bolas can win without killing or enslaving one of the other, and if he's got one of them as a thrall it kind of causes trouble for the Gatewatch brand again.
So between this card and Parallel Lives there are subtle differences in the language used but is there any situation that Anointed Procession would affect where Parallel Lives would not? Specifically regarding the "battlefield". What tokens are there that are not on the battlefield?
I can't think of any myself but just wondering why there would be a discrepancy of language.
I think it's just new wording. They've been doing the "create tokens" thing instead of putting tokens on the battlefield. When a token is created, it still counts as entering the battlefield for the purposes of triggers and the like.
And, as said earlier, white Parallel lives is massive. Maybe not immediately, but white tokens are so much better than green it's not even funny. Mega EDH card at the very least.

After the update to account for the language change (for "creating" a token), the cards are identical except for color. Check out Gatherer's entry on Doubling Season for yourself, if you want.

Its just the changes in the wording made when making tokens.
Naya tokens in standard? Cathartic Reunion a Honored Hydra or two into your yard turn 2, drop this turn 3, two 6/6 tramplers turn 4?
Almost. You're not dropping this Enchantment on T3 but the Hydra is a good shout!
Whoops. I could have sworn this thing was 2W. So it doesn't curve out as well as I thought.
But anyway, scrap that Naya deck I was talking about before. With Cryptbreaker and all of your embalm creatures being zombies I think Abzan might be where it's at.
Not only does Cryptbreaker let you drop your embalm creatures in your yard early, this will also let him make you two zombies any time he does. AND if you choose to run Gisa's Bidding he can make you 6 2/2 zombies for 5 mana at instant speed. Whom he can also tap at instant speed to draw you two cards.

But nah I'm aware of the benefit of keeping around their main players. And I'm not the type of MTGS user who equates death with stakes/plot advancement, that's consistently a juvenile conclusion to make, especially from a creative standpoint (thank the Theros gods that none of those people from here have anything to do with wotc creative).
However, I do think Gideon's death (or removing him from the main game somehow) would achieve both and not feel forced. The plot has reached a point where the fall of someone like Gideon would add some spark to the story. The Gatewatch would be in disarray without their leader, and just in time for the new direction of less gatewatch-centric storylines. Anyway, still dreaming. He'll probably pass the trials, punch Nicol Bolas in the face, and live to inner-monologue about it.
I think they're using this block to make Gideon less one-dimensional, which they've recognized is a legitimate criticism of the character.
Although I don't really foresee Gideon (or any other member of the Gatewatch) dying or being gravely injured, they are going to leave Amonkhet in defeat. Bolas will have his undead army, his ability to traverse planes with it thanks to Tezzeret (and Rashmi, of course), and the Gatewatch will see how they couldn't do anything to stop it. Then maybe they will listen to Ajani next time. Maybe with a little betrayal courtesy of Liliana (who's just there to slay a demon)?
Hopefully Gideon will come out of the story being a little less idealistic and enthusiastic about seeing everything in black and white, and maybe lose his faith in the divine a bit.
Also, the Gatewatch's presence will still be just as strong in the story going forward. They just won't be represented on planeswalker cards unless it's important.

As a polytheist it would be nice to see someone like that in Magic, especially when it's so conducive for that.
But I think Gideon also needs to return to Theros. He has unfinished business there. Really the only one who doesn't have a storyline needing some wrapping up is Nissa.
Gideon has Theros, Jace Vryn, Liliana another demon and the Raven Man, and Chandra has Regatha. All feel like important places to go to, and likely. Nissa? Lorwyn is out of the question most likely, very unpopular, and she has no other major loose threads right now if I recall correctly.
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like this to occur and validate you.
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Agreed. So many white Commanders are about tokens either by their nature (in addition to the ones you mentioned there's also newcomer Oketra the True, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, and Daxos the Returned) as well as implicitly (like Jazal Goldmane). Easily among the most impactful commander cards of the set.

2nd story spotlight card with Gideon. Yup, he gon' die.
NO!!! Please don't kill off my lovely Gideon. Sure he doesn't have to have a card every set, but they already locked up my Sorin. Don't take away my Gideon, too!
If Gideon has to die anywhere anytime soon, it should be on Theros, ideally as a heroic sacrifice to save his team and possibly defeat a God, to give his downfall some poetic meaning. Gids is practically a Greek superhero, like some kind of cross between Superman, Captain America, and Hercules, and Greek myth loved tragic heroes.
That said, I find something poignant about a character originating from a Greek world participating in the trials of an Egyptian world.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

I mean, Pia made it through Kaladesh and popped up on something like four cards, and she's not a Planeswalker or as important to the Gatewatch brand.

Replace the Panharmonicon as most of your creatures are not ETB and Oketra's Monument is a cast trigger.

Damn I'm becoming more UW and less Mono Blue as time goes on.
|| UW Jace, Vyn's Prodigy UW || UG Kenessos, Priest of Thassa (feat. Arixmethes) UG ||
Cards I still want to see created:

GGG [Primer] Omnath, Big Green Beatstick Machine GGG
Daxos might stick around now a little too, enchantment that helps him make tokens? YES PLEASE.
Selling some cards I don't want.
Generally less than tcg mid.

We can never have too many Doubling Seasons!

It's about time too. Doubling is supposed to not just be a green thing, but "whatever that color cares about": Furnace of Rath, Thought Reflection, Boon Reflection and this, Doubling Season. Black's kind of the odd one out, thus far: Wound Reflection is the closest black has.
For Commander players, this is a BFD: Heliod, God of the Sun, Teysa, Orzhov Scion, Breya, Etherium Shaper, Kemba, Kha Regent, Darien, King of Kjeldor, Ertai, the Corrupted, and Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer all use a lot of tokens, but none of them can use any existing Doubling Season variants. (A similar case comes up, to a lesser extent, with Prime Speaker Zegana decks. You can use some DS variants, but Corpsejack Menace is unavailable.)

Back to the card:
Oh, wow, white Parallel Lives! This should be fun with Panharmonicon and all the ETB token makers like Marionette Master and Regal Caracal. Outside Standard, Growing Ranks and Assemble the Legion will make harmonious music with this as they have with Lives.
Hey Gids, didn't your last card from three blocks ago create tokens? Chandra and Nissa too.
