Also, new monogreen walker incoming? Garruk cured??
I highly doubt he's getting cured anytime soon; Creative now has him in their pocket as the villain for an upcoming set so he won't come back to his senses.
We'll probably get a new monogreen 'walker to fill the void though.
Nissa, Steward of Elements is easily my favorite Nissa since Woldwaker. Scry to set up a psuedo CoCo and then hit your opponent with an ten-damage RKO outta nowhere. Also, the card's initials break down to 'NSE', which I will pronounce 'Nessie' all standard long
I will also be calling the 'mini hellbent' abilities on Dread Wanderer and Hazoret the Fervent 'heckbent'. You heard it here first, folks.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I can't wait till I can play my bicycle land out, thus making me heckbent, while I have Nessie on the field. You know, so I can attack with my Pervert.
I especially appreciate heckbent, because I don't believe in gosh, so I am definitely going to heck.
Okay, let's just break standard again with more broken and poorly designed free cast cards.

It seems they may be viewing planeswalkers color identity as more fluid then they previously have. It makes a lot of sense if they want to keep the Gatewatch around. How many times can you get a mono-green Nissa before they start to look stale. Shifting colors one time as a little twist before going back to the norm keeps things fresh.
Well, that Nissa was unexpected...
in SO MANY different ways!
I'm still not 100% sure what to make of her,
but she's almost certainly the best X spell
(I know— Nimbus Swimmer be damned!)
I'm not unhappy my favorite color pair got the first such experiment,
but part of me feels it should have been Vraska, the Unseen,
since she took the place of the Mythic X spell in RtR.

Planeswalkers don't run on EDH color identity rules. Chandra may be red-aligned, but there's nothing stopping her from tapping into a swamp's mana to fuel her spells or even picking up a few off-color tricks, though unless her alignment actually changes she's unlikely to spend much effort on learning non-red spells.
I believe planeswalker cards are intended to represent a planeswalker at a specific moment in time. If we happen to be looking in on them at a time when they're tapping into other colors then we'll get an off-color walker. That's how we get RW Ajani, URG Sarkhan and the like. In the books, they make a point of Jace learning some basic white-based healing spells. If wizards decided to give us a snapshot of Jace in that exact instant they could probably justify making Jace, Noob Healer a WU card, while Jace (the character) remains purely blue aligned.

My decks
Standard - RIP Cat
Modern - Death & Taxes
Commander - Mazirek, Trostani, Angry Omnath
Could the plague Belcher make modern zombie viable ? Putting counters on Gravecrawler or Geralf's Messenger sounds quite good to me !!
I think the new 1 drop zombie also helps out quite a bit, since it means you can run 8 2/1s that can be recurred from the graveyard. Sure, it's 3 mana to recur the new one, and it won't recur as consistently as gravecrawler, but by the time you're in top deck mode, 3 mana isn't going to be that big of a deal and the fact that it can block (the turn after it comes back, admittedly :P) is nice too.
No seriously, why is she blue? Her abilities are easy mono green, her artwork is greener than green, she's the posterchild for green planeswalkers ... Why, Wizards, why?
Scry 2 whenever is monogreen?
Flying beaters are monogreen?
No seriously, why is she blue? Her abilities are easy mono green, her artwork is greener than green, she's the posterchild for green planeswalkers ... Why, Wizards, why?
Scry is mono green? Are you sure about that?
You all remember scry is WUBRG with U being the strongest in general? The only thing outside of green color pie is the flying on the elements.
“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
I am pretty sure Bounty of the Luxa's second ability and Nissa were designed with each other in mind. (Nissa for 1 loyalty isn't much, but it would get her on the battlefield quickly to use her +2.)
Every one of these spoilers is awesome. Nissa looks a bit broken. Her zero protects her much of the time as you're dropping a creature off of it. So much redundancy in green draw/scry/creature cheats/trample.
Zombies finally get the love they deserve. If a zombie deck doesn't make it now it'll be all Gideon's fault.
I just can't believe they are doing this with not one, but now three cards in standard that will all be legal for as long as kaladesh block exists.
Maybe I'm just weathered from aetherworks marvel into emrakul and all the infinite comboing with felidar guardian this past year, but wizards introducing two new ways to free cast cards in standard is not giving me any warm fuzzies.

Before her spark awoke Nissa was an oracle of her tribe. She's consistently had abilities referring to her ability to see the future. There's always been some distinct blue undertones to her character. Interesting to see what exactly motivates this story-wise.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
That Nissa is amazing as long as you can protect her.
The zombies are also awesome, especially Plague Belcher.
Im definitely on the hype train. On both nossa and beltcher. Belcher might be enough to make Collected zombies teir 2.5-2. It combos so well with messenger.

When looking at these cards, I'd like to remind people that MaRo said that Desert was too strong for Standard. Remember that when you've got a 3 CC 5/4 Menace Blood Artist beating your face, and you're seeing a 2/3 Lord that gives other dudes Menace at UNCOMMON.
I play Merfolk in Modern, and I'm wondering why anymore. Zombies looking good.

To be fair, Nissa doesn't cast the cards, and the limitations on the creatures that she can bring out are limited by the amount of loyalty that she has. Her 0 will honestly be used to put lands out most of the time.
And there's no cast trigger from creatures cheated out from Champion of Rhonas (and it has to both untap and attack).
Saheeli-combo and Emrakul are way more oppressive.
I groaned to see her pop out in this Spoiler/Preview season... like, seriously Ms. Redemption, gurl you can take a seat already.
Who knows tho, with MaRo's reply in Tumblr about the Gatewatch maybe Amonkhet is the last hoorah of them appearing way hugely in a block hence why they are again appearing largely.

Am I hearing Bant walkers again?
I'm also hoping this means that they're writing out Kiora.
(I don't need your reasoning. It's just what I want to happen.)
"Kiora is the Aquaman of planeswalkers."
"Useless and everyone pretends to like her?"
