You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I can't wait till I can play my bicycle land out, thus making me heckbent, while I have Nessie on the field. You know, so I can attack with my Pervert.
You're underestimating the value of land damage. Mouth of Ronom springs to mind as an example. The ability is significantly improved by being attached to a colorless land.
"Painted Bluffs" (card art on the website) looks interesting. I think it'll have the Desert subtype (and probably wont do anything interesting, but well...).
Wow, I think these cards will turn out better than they may seem at first sight, the serpent will come down for UU quite often, if anugly catfish saw play in Standard as a control finisher, this one may see play too, it's hard to argue with a 6/5 for 2 mana.
The desert is going to deal that one last point of damage to close the game more than once, the colorless issue may put a dent on it, unless mono-U control becomes a thing. But hey, if you manage to crack open a Kefnet in the prerelease together with a desert you can always make your opponent's life miserable by bouncing and replaying the pingy land, which can also ping walkers as somebody else pointed out, that alone makes it quite useful.
The 6/6 guy is probably just meh outside of Limited where it will often be on curve at minimum.
Reminds me a bit of Keldon Megaliths, obviously you don't get a repeatable effect or the ability to hit creatures. But it comes into play untapped and does it's damage immediately without having to be Hellbent or two free mana. It also clips planeswalkers which makes it better than Piranha Marsh.
The Serpent is good. Will come down as a fattie for UU in the right deck, easy to enable, which is just good. How well does it get around grave hate? You just need to play U cantrips to get it down fast, which you probably want to be doing anyways.
Pretty straightforward: turn 2 Failure, turn 3 Reduce, turn 4 UU1 for Cryptic Serpent since the two cards you already put into the graveyard count as both instants and sorceries for a total of 4. I suppose extra credit goes to those who can cast it on turn 3.
I'm an idiot for just remembering that this Desert can hit a PW
That seems to be its only redeeming quality if it ever sees play in Modern. And even then its hopelessly weak. What do you expect out of a common though? This is about as good as a common land gets.

Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)

Entertainment Weekly...? Wow, is Magic going mainstream?
They've had spoilers in Forbes before.
They're trying to make hellbent a thing, it seems. (Will see play in limited, but I'll reserve my judgment on Constructed.) I do like the "other side of Cognivore" too.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Spirits
Reread the card. Grim Strider gets -1/-1 for each card in your hand, it doesn't have -1/-1 counters on it. Hex Parasite doesn't combo with it.
BAfter the lights go out on you, after your worthless life is through. I will remember how you scream...B
Free direct damage in red/eldrazi decks does not suck. Also, comes into play untapped unlike Piranha Marsh.
I want foils.

Yes. Remember Hasbro's desire to make a Magic movie and to turn Magic into a brand beyond the card game.
My guess is City of Brass with Desert subtype.
Oops, I was beaten to that very speculation!

Yeah
Also, I wish they would have just reprinted the original Desert.
