I don't know if I like this thing. It's cheap to cast but to get the most out of it you'll end up paying 7 mana over three turns. Compare that to Gilded Lotus which just straight gives you the same for 2 mana less.
Not too mention that it staying like that is conditional. If it's destroyed and you bring it back, you have to start all over again.

So, yeah, don't know what to think.
You're technically only paying 4 (you get 1 of any color back each activation), but you're doing it over three to four turns.
And it's not like they're ever going to put Gilded Lotus back in Standard anyhow.
Slots into my improvise deck well. It lets you filter mana, tap to fuel improvise, and potentially let you ramp out late game to play a big threat. A lot of people were waiting for good cards to fit into the improvise deck, including myself, since one of the problems with the original deck is that it had a lot of questionable filler cards. This feels a lot less questionable than some other choices. This would go over Renegade map in my own listing thanks to not having to sacrifice it and it's ability to turn into a lotus blossom later on.
The other direction I can see this card going is as a key ramp piece in a GB build using Maulfist Revolutionary and Winding Constrictor. Once the card has a counter you can basically play those and charge it for free.

Marquisd, much love for linking to our cast! <3 Skip to 50:10 if anyone wants to hear our thoughts as we revealed our preview cards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ai17Ufy_RMM
If you have an extra use for it like Improvise (plus maybe color fixing) then it might be worth the time, having as much as 8 mana on the 5th turn is potent. Feels a bit excessive though, you have to spend 7 mana over 3-4 turns (4 if you count the 1 you get back each use) and then you get a Guilded Lotus (something that was fairly costed at only 5 mana). Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through and a huge risk of blowout if your opponent spends 1-2 mana to destroy it the turn before it untaps in Lotus mode.
Why not just bring back the proliferate mechanic since it's on so many cards in this set?
between this and all the -1/-1 counters i expect a return to new phirrexia next block or the one after that

You value knowledge, logic, and deceit. You love to pursue wisdom but also to manipulate and deceive. At your best, you are brilliant and progressive. At your worst, you are treacherous and cold. Your symbol is a water droplet. Your enemies are green and red.
Just make proliferate evergreen already. Seriously.
I think it would be a better to create a new keyword action that is effectively proliferate for a single permanent with a set-neutral name and then reword Proliferate as "do that to any number of permanents or players".
I agree with the sentiment though. Every single one of these iterations is as wordy and as different as all those old Basilisk not-quite-deathtouch ones and I hate having to read each of these every time to figure out what makes it different. The good news is that I have no desire to play any of them anyway.
I am tempted to put this mana rock in Derevi, but I know it will just get blown up after I spend multiple turns dumping mana into it because it would effectively double my mana as soon as it's completed.
Quarry Hauler =/= Proliferate. As you have the option to add or subtract counters on any permanent. So you could actually remove loyalty counters from an enemy planeswalker with a Quarry Hauler. Throw in Astral Slide and Fluctuator and this camel can dismantle planeswalkers.
I'm tempted but unsure that it's worth it.
The camel seems kind of versatile for limited, but generally, Maulfist Revolutionary does a better job just adding counters.
Reprint Stasis!
Control needs more love.

Flavor reason. Proliferate,a scientific-biologic term primarily linked with cancer, makes great sense for Phyrexia, but not so much anywhere else.
