7 mana spells that aren't cheated in see very rare play in any format and the ones that do immediately end the game or essentially do. The last ones in standard play were like angel of serenity and elesh norn and pearl lake ancient.
Alright this thread is old as balls, but I'd like to go ahead and take the time to make an account just to post this tiny bit of information you guys may not have considered. Approach of the Second Sun costs 7. It does not win the game immediately. Cruel Reality costs 7, and it also does not win the game immediately. However, with the current state of standard (Ixalan) this card is an absolute monster if you manage to resolve it. To simplify the process of Cruel Reality being used as a win-con, one may use a creatureless control deck (Mine is Esper). Counter magic(Supreme Will, Censor, Disallow, Essence Scatter, Negate), field wipes(Fumigate, Settle the Wreckage, Dusk//Dawn, Yahenni's Expertise, Bontu's Last Reckoning if desperate) spot removal(Cast Out, Ixalan's Binding, Trial of Ambition, Fatal Push, Sandblast, Slash of Talons, Perilous Voyage, Aether Meltdown, Never//Return, etc etc etc), Cruel Reality(obviously), filter/draw spells(Glimmer of Genius, Hieroglyphic Illumination, Supreme Will, Search for Azcanta, etc). In case of facing a super fast deck that can get under you one may also use Authority of the Consuls. Other tools may include, but not limited to: Sanguine Sacrament, Kinjaili's Sunwing, Perpetual Timepiece, Scavenging Grounds, Field of Ruin, Treasure Map, Crook of Condemnation, Duress, Doomfall, Gideon's Intervention, Fragmentize, Lost Legacy, Unsummon, and more!
This card absolutely destroys if you use it correctly; while it's cost is a bit high, it is highly effective and has won me every single game that it was resolved in. The few times I was unable to cast it was due to an error on my part - such as letting a Gonti, Lord of Luxury resolve, not owning any Supreme Will, not owning any field wipes, letting Fraying Sanity resolve, not using Disallow on Ipnu Rivulet, and not keeping up mana to protect it.
Is it perfect? Probably not. Is it playable? Absolutely.
KEEP CRUEL REALITY OUT OF OUR UNSTABLE SPOILER SEASON

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
