I don't quite like the "every divine thing is a secretly evil monster" storyline from since Theoros (or even before) and since when two humans enough to hold down Gideon when not even Ulamog could crush him???? A+ storytelling
It's the difference between toughness and strength. Also, Gideon is trying to save one of the villagers,he's not going to use is full powers and kill two other villagers to do that.

I'm sure Gideon knows of an approximate amount of strength to either knock them out or away long enough to get to that other person. Although on this plane there are a lot more people training, for the trials, and they might be stronger than the average person/soldier on other planes.
I'm glad they are using curse now as a tool like hybrid.

I think what the failed to reveal so far is that, as part of Nicol Bolas shtick, all other sets will quit standard as Amonkhet releases. This card is actually a power house card in the upcoming meta.
That, or Bolas mind cursed them to like bad cards. Either thing.
Being bad everywhere else does not automatically make something good in EDH.
I'd argue that in any multiplayer format, this card in fact becomes marginally worse. Think of how bad this is in a two-player game, then multiply that badness by the number of players to figure out how bad it would be in EDH.
Gideon was once able to wrestle Ulamog to a standstill, but now can't hold off two regular humans. I'm glad Wizards hit him with the nerf-bat. I hope it lasts. As for the card, meh - should've been a sorcery that creates an emblem, and even then wouldn't have seen play.

Well, judging by the color of the card, it was the trial of ambition. What would poor Gids expect?
Gamewise, it is very expensive. And I will certainly crack four of them like with Ghastly Conscription....:-/
I'm preparing a space in my garbage ca... I mean my binder... for the foil one I inevitably pull at the prerelease or otherwise early in this set's lifespan, just like Ghastly Conscription.

Gideon is really really good at being the "immovable object", which is what he was doing against Ulamog. He's not so good forcing his way through things (I'm pretty sure we haven't seen him show any more strength than your normal musclebound person would). So being held in place by two (very well trained) people is not out of line with his power set. If they were pushing him away or managing to hurt him, that would be a completely different thing.
Notice how they made Dissenter's Deliverance hit artifacts only? Enchantments are pushed.
Unless they bust out the ban hammer though the enchantments don't have a chance in standard... especially not the bad ones.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I can't wait till I can play my bicycle land out, thus making me heckbent, while I have Nessie on the field. You know, so I can attack with my Pervert.
Would people find this card to be better if they could cast it on turn 4 or 5? If so, then in a BG shell featuring low-cost creatures and Cryptolith Rite you can cast it that early. Of course, that doesn't count the usual turn 4 Aetherworks Marvel crowd, even though they are usually going for some Eldrazi titan.
Someone has to the be "glass is half full" person around here; it might as well be me.
Oh joy, another mythic made worthless because of a huge mana cost in a color that doesn't get ramp. 'Eye roll' why do they keep shafting black mythics? I am trying to remember the last exciting black mythic, I am not coming up with anything since LotV (I obviously may have missed one). I don't care about the mythics being BAD, most cards in Standard at any rarity will be completely forgotten a year after rotation, but it gets really old when every set is 'here is something that you are never going to cast in Standard or Modern that doesn't do nearly enough for EDH' huge demons and these stupid huge cmc cards. I don't care if they are bad, just throw in one that is castable regardless if people actually want to cast it, just for kicks, 4 cmc or lower

The problem with Hedonist's Trove is that it required your opponent to have a fairly well-stocked graveyard, which most decks don't have; the ones which do are better at manipulating their own graveyard than you will be via your enchantment. I tired to make it work, too, but its pre-Fate version Villainous Wealth was always better.
I still think this enchantment could be good in a BG shell with low-cost creatures and Cryptolith Rite as it represents a To the Slaughter every turn starting on turn 5. Once on the battlefield, your opponent will start off by losing half the creatures they might be casting and then in only two or three turns they will run out of gas and start losing life, not counting the damage being inflicted by your creatures and/or spells.

Would not surprise me to see quite a few new curses in this set.
Just wait until ol' Bolas finally shows up. I bet HE knows how to really **** someone with curses.
(Fun fact: Of the 18 (now 19) curses in the entire game, 16 (84%) of them are in UBR.)

Yeah, forgot to mention that I got three regular GCs and a foil one. And the same repeated with Behold the Beyond in SoI. So definitely YES.

It would be uncommon. the mana cost is why.
