Nice card, fully build-around and meshes perfectly with what BG wants to do in the set. Good luck getting pass all those deathtouch tokens. The art is just great. Probably crazy goodbad with winding constrictor.
Fixed that for you. Constrictor only cares about counters on your stuff.
-1/-1 Counters were already interesting in this set, but with how much I love Deathtouch, I hope I have enough cards for a -1/-1 commander deck.
So building a Modern or Commander deck around this lady. There is so much potential for shenanigans here. Blowfly Infestation + Hapatra = infinite death triggers, and I'll bet that's just the tip of the iceberg.
I'm going to be the history nerd here to put out some ironies with how Hapatra is based off of Cleopatra. The first is that Hapatra likes snakes, Cleopatra supposedly killed herself by plunging her hand into a basket full of snakes.
-snip-
Very resonant flavour on this Vizier! I was immediately able to identify this as Cleopatra by mechanics and name, unlike Temmet, the Boy Murder King, the failed attempt at Tut.
To be fair, would you really want a successful King Tut? Temmet, Vizier of Being a Scoliotic Inbred Uggo would be a much less fun card.
Hapatra being Cleopatra now confirms what Temmet implied, that on Amonkhet Viziers are stand-ins for historical Pharaohs (since Amonkhet only has one Pharaoh: Bolas).
Does this mean we can expect Viziers for Ramses, Nefertiti and maybe Akhenaten? (Or even the historical Scorpion King?)
And while I'm at it, I'd love cards to see cards referencing Ozymandias (the poem), Imhotep (movie version and historic version), the Book of the Dead, Ammit, Apophis, and Djoser.

So far, Amonkhet is nowhere near as on-the-nose with flavor as Theros block was, which was good, but I too would like to see somewhat subtle references like the ones you described. The historic version of Imhotep would be particularly cool - maybe a legend who interacts with the brick counter artifacts favorably?
I think Bontu is our Ammit reference and Bolas himself is basically an Apophis stand-in (evil serpentine god who's going to destroy the world, even if people don't know it).
Very strong card but why the hell isn't this a naga? Seriously. If we get a dozen more legendary humans and not one legendary naga I will be so pissed.
I wonder if each color pair is going to get a rare legendary vizier. It would fit the number crunch. If so the GU one better be a naga because that's the only reason why this being human might be justified. Then again, it makes goddamn snake tokens. Ugh.
Maybe but remember everyone was connived we'd get an enemy legendary cycle in Kaladesh (even though the rarities where all over the place), however quickly looking at gather Naga are mostly UG (with only one mono-black naga, Sidisi, Undead Vizier) so if they have a legendary Naga UG seems the better choice.

At least she is cmc 2 so that your turn 3 consists of Fatal Push and Trial of Ambition to remove up to two opponent creatures, clearing the way for her to attack and get a snake token. In Limited, turn 3 Cartouche of Ambition on Hapatra to get a snake token and make her a 3/3, which might be enough to take out the remaining creature your opponent has, if any.
Definitely making a black/green counter deck with this, the archdemon, nest of scarabs, and maybe those green creatures that etb with counters on them. Hopefully we get some kind of reanimator spell/creature in the set so I can go full circle with it all.
Very nice. I've been collecting -1/-1 counter cards for a while, and now I have the perfect commander. Really love it when they're affordable (2 mana!) and support a theme without being overly broken or too obvious in how to build.

Imhotep, Vizier of Consumption, BR3, 2/5, whenever Imhotep deals combat damage to a creature that creature's controller puts a -1/-1 counter on it at the beginning of their upkeep.
If that creature had Haste, it'd be pretty good. As it is, it's just a bear that will get burned or blocked.
Indeed. Just idle speculation on my part in answer to the question about Viziers being based on historical figures, which definitely seems to be the case. Since Imhotep's name translates literally as "he who comes in peace" he should probably be UW, GW, or UGW.
I'm guessing this is a cycle, and we'll get one two-colored vizier for each set mechanic. The ones we have yet to meet would include a WR Exert guy, a BR Cycling guy, and a UG Aftermath guy. Aftermath is in all five colors, but the color pairs for the other mechanics seem to be firmly established, and there would be a color imbalance if it wasn't simic colors.
Play your one drop. Play her. Turn 3 play your Exemplar dumping the -1/-1 counters on your one drop, upgrading it into a relevant deathtouch snake.
The synergy between tokens and these -1/-1 counter downside cards is amazing. With best of Scarabs and Hapatra out, you can dump all your -1/-1 counters on a scarab and make a 1/1 deathtouch and a new scarab while you're at it.
The best part? While you're swinging at your opponent with 3/4 and 4/4 beaters that you made for 2 mana, your opponent can't swing back at you unless they want to trade their creatures for 1/1 tokens you made for free.
