I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Future commander for me, too... let's pull together all the pieces from the ol' Blowfly Infestation / Flourishing Defenses deck, and then get out of the way?
... unless of course she winds up in Atraxa (like every other card with the word "counters" on it)...
Shame the tokens aren't black, because HOO BOY would this be spicy with Midnight Banshee.
But isn't it even better that they aren't? Now you kill and replace your snakes every turn, producing gobs of ETB and death triggers. Way more useful than being able to attack with your 1/1 snakes.
Do Wither and Infect trigger Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons's second ability? That is, do Wither and Infect involve you putting -1/-1 counters on creatures, or do the creatures with Wither and Infect put the -1/-1 counters on creatures?
They totally would. That's why I'm seriously looking at my BRG infect commander and wondering it I should make room, because if it's one thing I need in that deck, it is more deadly blockers.

Oh believe me, I was thinking it, but the issue is the same as it was with Hardened Scales: "one or more counters". You wouldn't get the super pack of snakes from a single activation; only one.

I'm pretty sure Carnifex Demon would give you a number of snakes equal to the number of other creatures. Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons says, "Whenever you put one or more -1/-1 counters on a creature, create a 1/1 green Snake creature token with deathtouch." So this should trigger once for each creature besides Carnifex Demon.
I can really see this in a wither/infect EDH list. I really want a foil of this guy, the brewing has begun lol.
As mentioned before, Winding Constrictor is going to be interesting with this and the -1 counters on your dudes, or as a good counter in the mirror match.
Wow, I might have to dust off the BSZ if this is a thing.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Yep. But my personal favorite application: Cathars' Crusade and Devoted Druid go infinite (mana and snake tokens, which get a bunch of +1/+1 counters) with this.

Play your one drop. Play her. Turn 3 play your Exemplar dumping the -1/-1 counters on your one drop, upgrading it into a relevant deathtouch snake.
That is brilliant.
How about Festering Mummy as your one drop? The -1/-1 counter kills it, which in turn causes it to place a -1/-1 counter on another creature and generate another Snake token. Plague Belcher is a good followup to Hapatra, as it kills the Mummy, in turn triggering its own ability.
I wonder if some kind of GWUB Zombie -1/-1 counter deck will be possible in Standard?
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
We can go one step even deeper, imagine reaching a moderate board size with something like Triumph of the Hordes. It gives you so many tokens, but now I'm disappointed that they didn't bring back Wither.
The snakes have death touch and that gives them +1/+1 and trample, that's way better then you think. Death touch + Trample = only need to deal one point of damage to the blocking creature and the rest to the player, that means that each snake needs to be blocked by 2 creatures (in this scenario) to stop the infect from getting through and they'll kill and double up (or at least replace themselves if they only block with one) when they get killed by the blocking creature. So Triumph of the Hordes can be considered a Kill/board wip that generates more snakes for you.
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like this to occur and validate you.

That is brilliant.
