+1: Prevents damage dealt by Hazoret the Fervent.
I like that the Cartouches each grant their respective God's keyword. You don't want to put the Cartouche on the God because it isn't meant for them.
Good catch! I'm pretty stoked that the black God has lifeline.
Like the Gideon, but he doesn't grind quite as well as his 4cmc bfz counterpart that was supposed to rotate.
Plays well with heart of kiran, though.
I feel as though this Gideon is not as good as it looks, though. It's designed to stop mid-range strategies, does very little against go wide strategies, remains a creature only for the turn his second ability is activated, and his ultimate is actually kind of weak. Unless you can get it online and protect him for a turn. They also spoiled cast out earlier and that is going to see heavy play.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Gideon is disgusting. Squeeze 8 Gideons into vehicles (4 ally 4 Trials)
T2 Heart of Kiran
T3 New broken Gideon - emblem or +1
T4 If it survives begin 8 damage per turn swings - if dead play Ally or trials again.
T5 and again
T6 and again
T7 still can't lose the game... and again
Hey balance team at WotC... bite me I'm not buying any of your set until you screw your heads back on straight.
Can't lose the game... <grumble>
They didn't want to 'upset' people with bannings on March 13... what if they ban ally of Z?
Er, he's only indestructible when he's a creature? Why would you use Hero's Downfall on a card you know is indestructible when you can use when that card is not?
I don't understand the hype. For starter's platinum angel is bad. Sure it serves a purpose in blue tron, but only in certain matchups. If you couldn't discard it to Thirst for Knowledge I guarantee it would be cut from the deck. The truth is that most go walkers need to be answered befor your opponent can win the game anyways. Getting an emblem to put it in writing does very little and mostly just makes you take a turn off. Also unlike platinum angel gideon can be interacted with through combat. The whole advantage of angel is you play it verses aggro decks with high threat denstiy so that you only need to counter removal spells instead of every threat providing artificial card advantage. With gideon you still have to kill your opponents creatures so that they can't attack Gideon. Also the +1 is pretty bad. It at least pressures your opponent to attack gideon if they aren't going wide with lots of threats but it's just worse that actual removal unless paired with boardwipes. The animation ability is actually good and may be enough reason to play gideon, but most decks would rather just have a 4/4 for 3 no strings attached. The only deck I can imagine wanting this is control in standard because it can combo him with board whipes, but control isn't really playable in the current meta. Like it would have been a fine card in some previous standards, but you can get so much more for 3 mana these days, I'm just not seeing it.
Are you ******* KIDDING ME?! That Gideon is busted for Miracles players. Thanks for blanking my entire Legacy Burn deck. Dick wads.
Redirect your bolt to gideon? are you really going to lose because your opponent payed 3 mana to gain 3 life? I haven't actually played lecacy burn but I assume that counterbalace is what makes you lose just like chalice wrecks burn in modern. Better yet if you made a good meta choice when choosing to play burn you won't end up playing the 0-3's who decided to waste slots in their decks on bad cards.
I don't get the point of this new Gideon's Ultimate. What's so good about a Platinum Angel ability in Standard? In Standard right now, the best decks all win by damage, including the copycat combo. It also says "you can't win" so it seems like all the emblem would do is drag games or longer, which doesn't sound very fun.
His +1 is alright; it's a form of protection, which is good for any planeswalker. His second 0 males him a 4/4 beater on Turn 4, which is quite nice but puts him within Grasp of Darkness range.
No it doesn't it says "You can't lose the game, and your opponents can't win the game". So, you play magic and find your win cons while your opponents stare at Gideon and wonder how to get through the knight tokens and the possible Heroic Intervention to save Gideon's.

Another likely oppressive indestructible Gideon, and indestructible gods? I would urge folks to pick up Anguished Unmaking especially since it's pretty cheap.
The auras and trials interaction seems cute. I do like that black trial, along with it's cartouche.

Just a small point here. Heroic Intervention will not save Gideon from combat damage if you attack him. It will protect him from kill spells to his PW form, though, of course.
I read Gideon at first and assumed that Emblem was -3, or -10, or -one billion. Basically irrelevant. As a 0 ability, it's spicier.
I feel like people down on him are as wrong as folks who were down on AoZ: "4 mana emblem isn't good enough". The flexibility is the key. If it's helpful, as it will be against many aggressive decks especially curved after a Heart of Kiran, you Emblem up and make them have an answer. If you're facing CopyCat Combo or a deck that is likely jamming Ballistas, you just don't Emblem right away - a 4/4 attacker for 1WW is pretty good as is fogging your opponents biggest threats.

Oh, Giddy. That's the unique and interesting planeswalker card design that I've been waiting to see again. The ones from these past 3 blocks were just a bunch of mid-rangey value grinders. I don't know whether Gideon will be playable, and I don't care. He'll be awesome to me either way. Now, if only we get other planeswalkers aside from Gideon with some cool-looking tools.
It also says "you can't win" so it seems like all the emblem would do is drag games or longer, which doesn't sound very fun.
LOL. re-read the card. Your opponents can't win.
Oh lol ya I need to learn how to read.
Yeah then in that case, the new berfcakes looks pretty good. I like that his animate ability is 0 and not +1, making him less broken with Heart of Kiran but still pretty broken nonetheless. Thankfully, this time he does not produce tokens and can be dealt with Grasp of Darkness when animated.
If Gideon Ally of Zendikar was on the ban radar knowing this was coming why wouldn't they pull the trigger. Having both and curving in the process is so busted.
Didn't everyone think that Gideon would die in the last set he was printed in due to him being able to sacrifice himself the turn he came down in order to anthem the rest of the board?
Hmmm, that Gideon really likes mesmeric orb... Other than mill or alternate wincons, the emblem is pretty much useless, though. If someone is dealing big enough damage to an opponent, they will find 4 more for Gids.

Such value. That bar to see him in standard (and possible older formats) is really, really low.
