Guys, Temmet's token isn't legendary, so you can copy it and get a bunch of commander mummies. It also means that you can "recast" him multiple times before the command tax gets too high (5 to embalm. The 4 once the token is dead, the 5 embalm again, then 6, as opposed to 4, then 6, then 8, then 10.)
He has the chance to do something new, and at the least will be in the 99 of some nice decks. In French rules, his abilities are even more relevant because of being 1v1 and 20 life.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!

If I were to play Temmet as a commander and it were to die, could I embalm it into the command zone?

If your Temmet commander dies, you can choose to have it hit the graveyard, embalm it, and have a token on the battlefield and a Temmet card in the command zone.

Yup, I'm building this. Kaladesh block had Depala that I built around; this looks just as fun.
Make sure you run Mirror Gallery and can tutor it out so you can get really stupid with it!
A bit rusty here.... If I target Sakura-Tribe Elder with Exemplar/Channeler, can I sac him before the -3/-3 comes along?
So I'd have either a 3/4 or 4/4 for 2cmc plus my basic land?

This works because their abilities target. So you can sac the target of their ability before it resolves, countering the ability. If it is worth it is another question entirely.
In the right deck they can ne early beasts. I'd prolly just use the Exemplar but still.

I mean, 2GG and two cards for a third-turn 4/4 and a tapped basic land ramp? Not an awful deal but not exactly the wombo combo either.

It's weird that the monuments are uncommon-
are these the first Legendary uncommons we've seen since Kamigawa?
They're also a bit underwhelming.
I mean- my Momir Vig, Simic Visionary deck already runs Emerald Medallion and Sapphire Medallion.
Even though the monuments only cost 1 more, and come with upside as most of the spells in the deck are creatures,
I find it hard to justify them over the medallions.

Now that token cards say "token" on the typeline, it's necessary to move the legendary type into rules text for space reasons: Cf. C14 Tuktuk the Returned.
Overall, I'm still pretty underwhelmed. Not necessarily by the power level of the cards, but just their synergy and uniqueness feels way underwhelming compared to Aether Revolt and Kaladesh. Maybe they're just not spoiling as cool of cards just yet. Only time will tell...
I love the Initiate. That is probably the best 2 cmc mana dork they have printed in a long time due to the flexibility of it either coming in as a 0/1 that can make mana and become relevant late game, or just sac a 1/1 token and bring it in as the 3/4 beat stick it is. Also like the white monument as it definitely provides some good value mid to late game in a creature based strategy.

I gotta say that so far, I'm not impressed. This set just feels very weak thus far. All of the interesting cards seem to have serious drawbacks, like the -1/-1 cards. The fact that the Channeler is supposed to be "good" disappoints me greatly. Not saying it has to be a birds or Hierarch, but the fact it's limited by the number of counters you have on the Channeler itself is very limiting. It's no doubt interesting design, but feels super weak.
It can tussle better than any mana dork before it, I mean it fits how games play out perfectly in the early game you want that extra mana eventually most mana dorks become extremely expendable though and become chump blockers after a certain point. Meanwhile this guy after tapping it for mana on turn 3-5 will be a 3/4. We won't be seeing any mana dorks that cost G again in standard since they have said they lead to too many lopsided games when drawn in the opener or for a turn 1 play.
At least we are exploring new design space with mana dorks and they are now allowing them to do other things besides tap for mana until they eventually get in the way of a large attacking creature to buy some time.

Werebear from 15 years ago. but since R&D has such short memory, of course reinventing the wheel seems novel.

I hadn't seen the Ragavan token, but in this instance the token card has three subtypes instead of one (six-character-long) one. Guess it IS case-by-case, and it's a pretty clear-cut case for Temmet. "Token Legendary Creature - Zombie Human Cleric"? Eugh.
I really like the way -1/-1 counters are used on the 2 green creatures, either you can get a small creature that slowly grows with an upside (life gain when attacking or tapping for mana) or you can kill off another creature to get the big version immediately. And a 3/4 or 4/4 for 2 is big enough to make an additional cost of killing off your 1 drop appealing (particularly if said 1 drop gave extra value like Thraben Inspector).
The monuments are decent and if a mono color creature heavy strategy exists it could definitely make use of running 1-2 monuments for the dual benefits of reduced cost and creature cast trigger. The fact that the trigger doesn't care about color makes them decent limited options too possibly even off color.
The aftermath naming convention is "_____ to ____" so "Onward to Upward" sounds...well, silly.
I know, I was making a joke base on the common phrase of "Onward and Upward".

I mean, 2GG and two cards for a third-turn 4/4 and a tapped basic land ramp? Not an awful deal but not exactly the wombo combo either.
The better Modern play with the Exemplar is with something with a death trigger, like Doomed Traveler.

are these the first Legendary uncommons we've seen since Kamigawa?
They're also a bit underwhelming.
I mean- my Momir Vig, Simic Visionary deck already runs Emerald Medallion and Sapphire Medallion.
Even though the monuments only cost 1 more, and come with upside as most of the spells in the deck are creatures,
I find it hard to justify them over the medallions.
I'll have to test them to be sure, especially Rhonas's Monument.

Ugh, I just read the type line.
Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
Now that token cards say "token" on the typeline, it's necessary to move the legendary type into rules text for space reasons: Cf. C14 Tuktuk the Returned.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
At least we are exploring new design space with mana dorks and they are now allowing them to do other things besides tap for mana until they eventually get in the way of a large attacking creature to buy some time.
Feel free to bid on my cards here!
Werebear from 15 years ago. but since R&D has such short memory, of course reinventing the wheel seems novel.

Sometimes. Sometimes not. Cf. Ragavan.
I hadn't seen the Ragavan token, but in this instance the token card has three subtypes instead of one (six-character-long) one. Guess it IS case-by-case, and it's a pretty clear-cut case for Temmet. "Token Legendary Creature - Zombie Human Cleric"? Eugh.

The monuments are decent and if a mono color creature heavy strategy exists it could definitely make use of running 1-2 monuments for the dual benefits of reduced cost and creature cast trigger. The fact that the trigger doesn't care about color makes them decent limited options too possibly even off color.
