I know "this goes right into my commander deck" is a cliche at this point, but its almost embarassing how much I like 1-drop lifelinkers and similar because of Karlov and this is a sweet one that made me smile.

They didn't care that he was the savior of Fort Keff, the great hunter of Ondu, the champion of Kabira. To them, he was just another piece of flesh, a thing with life to be drained away.
Yeah, the embalm token isn't creepy or anything...
Your right it isn't creepy it is adorable.

Does no one else get some serious Pet Cemetery vibes from the thing???
Black Cat gives me that vibe more. In Oketra's Name and Djeru's Resolve suggests the mummies are "good" or at least well controlled. So for me this looks like you childhood cat still hanging around.

I think the creepy part is that the scene is exactly the same. Like they did not even wait, just alive one minute and embalmed the next.
Personally, I find it a little unsettling the white mummies dont have visible faces. Its probably preferable for "good" undead that you cant see their face, but faceless things that normally have them are still pretty creepy. Thats actually kind of interesting still since they ARE apparently benevolent, but both the practice and their design in the game makes them feel unique among both typical white creatures and zombies, since while theyre not typical zombiee, they are still weird looking for white creatures.

With an Embalm cost of W, the cat is SOOO much value. As in, almost on the level of Doomed Traveler value.
I know you say "almost," but that may be a wee bit hyperbolic. Flying on one side is better than lifelink on both I think. And obviously 0 mana is better than 1 mana.
**** yeah, nothing beats waking up and seeing another single limited common spoiled on day two of spoilers! Well at least the artwork is cute and well made, so much better than the cancer that was bfz block. I really like the token too, it's creepy yet somehow...cute?
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
I think people are confusing "performs their function" for "benevolent". To my knowledge we haven't seen whether mummies here actually still have any semblance of personality, individuality or knowledge of who they were in life. Considering that all mummies in this set are white and are faceless, it would follow that they don't have any of the three. It really looks like people on Amonkhet use mummies like house robots. That's not "benevolent" any more than a toaster is benevolent.
A part of me wants to say that this "benevolence" talk is very much influenced by their color alignment and just.... sigh.

Kinda hard to fly while being embalmed. I think that a bird is out of the question :/

That's not bad

Pet Cemetery oddly involved humans if I remember the plot right.
This is an interesting card, double the lifelink card for W I like it. It also has some interesting neckware.

I wonder how the embalmed interact with Liliana.

only card to make me go "neat" so far.

Benevolent implies good intentions, benign just assures the lack of BAD intentions. (Which they couldn't have if they're just mindless undead drones.)

There's no reason the wings couldn't be embalmed separately of the body - i think me could see an Aven mummy just fine
It's also kind of hard to get up, walk around, and scare Abbott and Costello while embalmed, but they do it. I wouldn't rule out MummyBird just yet.
