"Whenever you cycle or discard a card" , what is the point of the cycle clause? You have to discard a card to cycle so it would be the same if it was just "whenever you discard a card".
I was hoping that the blue god would be good for durdling and card advantage (mana to draw ability) in U Tron but if the conditions for attacking and blocking are as stringent as they are with the red one, its going to be pretty much junk.
The other ability I'm assuming is mana to bounce. Don't see what else it could be
Fingers crossed that its flash instead of flying (fat chance tho)
It could be looting. Something like a Careful Study or Catalog effect. That's my best bet. It could also be Scry based.
The trailer shows us that Gideon is about to be impaled by Hazoret (implying that he completed all five trials) but his indestructibility saves his life.
I would ask you to look again. It's not Gideon that's about to get impaled, it's Gideon jumping in the way to save a guy that is about to get impaled while another Amonkhet guy pushes the first guy out of the way.
I kind of wish that Hazoret's active ability was targeted and could hit creatures or players. Or maybe even only creatures, just so she did something more interesting than just straight damage.
"Whenever you cycle or discard..." is equivalent to "Whenever you discard...", since cycling is a subset of discarding. This template was almost certainly used for clarity, to make sure players didn't think "I didn't discard the card, I cycled it.". For those of you who think this is dumbing down the game, I commend you on your obviously superior intelligence and am impressed by your ability to never get any card interactions wrong ever.
This set is so far turning out to be completely different than how I imagined it. I thought it was going to be shards again (like Bolas would try to create his own version of Alara, or something), and Dark Intimations seemed to foreshadow that.
But now it's looking very much straightforward 2-colour fare. Which isn't bad necessarily, just ... I don't know. Nothing here is really seeming all that exciting.
Ok, thanks for clarification. But I'm still not sure what happens when you have two nests. For most "infinite" combos you can just say repeat that 10000 times and you have 10000 1/1 tokens/dmg or whatever, but in this case you technically can't just say lets do this 10000 times because the 10001st trigger is not optional and neither is the 10002nd.
Depends on whether there's a creature with 2 or more toughness in play to place the final -1/-1 counter on to break the loop.

I initially thought it was a useless point of text, but with all the comments responding, "It just means it can be used with any other discard" shows they made the correct decision.
Cartouche? Really? I know it's a real word but it's pretty far removed from the 'common knowledge' box. It's not an intuitive word and it's difficult to pronounce/read for many people.
Couldn't they have gone with something like 'Medal' or 'Sigil'?
I agree. I'm in a position where I can pronounce the word properly because I took French in school, buuuuuutttt...not everyone did that. I'm also already familiar with it from work where packages of inkjet and toner cartridges are multilingual, but this is also a job where most of my customers pronounce "cartridge" as "cartlidges", so prepare for two years of awful manglings of the word. I mean hell, half the M:tG YouTubers can barely pronounce anything properly as it is.
Man, I expected so much more out of a jackal goddess, a "doggess" if you will. She just does zip for EDH. Purphoros is the better indestructible mono-red general, hellbent is waaaaaay better when black is thrown in, and she does nothing is your hand isn't depleted.
I feel like this has to be said way too much: How about we wait for the full set to be spoiled before passing judgment? We haven't seen how many discard rewards are in the set yet.
I tell you something Purphoros doesn't do: Enable Madness and other discard/graveyard shenanigans. Hazoret's activated ability is mostly there to help you drop the last one or two cards to enable her attack; ideally, you'll have met the condition by the time she drops. And considering how quickly red likes to play its spells, it should not be hard to meet Hazoret's condition. Like most monocolor cards, she'll shine brightest in a multicolor deck that allows you to make use of cards outside Hazoret's own color, such as a BR deck with Olivia, Mobilized for War and Archfiend of Ifnir or a UR deck with Training Grounds (R to discard my Madness cards? Yes, please!). Hazoret also works great with cards like Burning Anger and Surestrike Trident that allow her to deal damage without attacking. Let's not forget Elemental Mastery.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Gosh darnit, I was hoping Hazoret would have a trigger, not pseudo-Hellbent shenanigans. I guess I can't win them all. Hazoret certainly doesn't scream, "good commander," but I'll see if I can make a list for her.

Well.. the -ouche sound is already known to a lot of people, since they call each other douches all the time. so.. add Cart- to the front of -ouche, and you get Kart-oosh. Cartouche.

I like the God. Hope the nickname "Hazoret the Pervert" sticks.
Named mechanics with simple, broadly understood words are going to stick to more players than ones with names that you have to turn on the phone and look up the definition/pronunciation to play the game.

We play Magic - we're nerds. And most of us have probably seen Stargate, where they also use the word cartouche a lot. For any to whom this is a first introduction to the word - yay, learning!
But it's too early to judge yet. I hope the blue god is good for EDH.
Because there are red cards that use discarding that dont cycle. This triggers off those too.

It just means it can be used in a madness deck for example or any other discard decks.
I.e. Instead of Fire (and) Ice or Bound (and) Determined, these are Destined (to) Lead or Dusk (to) Dawn.

That right Jackal's face on Limits of Solidarity.

Flameblade Adept will definitely be good in standard if there is enough support for it.
Crocodile of the Crossing will be sweet in Limited.
Limits of Solidarity seems like it might be the first sorcery-speed Threaten in a while to be good in Draft.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
She seems like she'll reward a more controlling bent than Purphy. Avaricious Dragon, Grafted Skullcap, Devastating Dreams, Nahiri's Wrath, and Firestorm are all her best friends. Spellshapers (Jaya Ballard, Task Mage, Arc Mage, Hammer Mage) are also solid adds. Wheels are anti-synergy with her but a good way to take a turn off and reload while disrupting opponents.
