Since CatSnake is 4/3. Anyone think Lightning Bolt could be making a return? One can always hope right?

Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)
STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
But why Cat Snake? Creative easter egg? Challenge? Incoming tribal matters? Or just for the lulz?
Because Wizards wants to jump on the internet hype train by combining everything with cats. Cat Monkey was the first step, now Cat Snakes. (Also, I know a lot of people who own ferrets who refer to them jokingly as 'cat snakes'.)
To be fair, these things predate wizards as they were already mythical beasts. The name is modern, but the animal is ancient.
Still, this is probably here to appease the internet, and cats, the official animal of the internet. No complaints here!
If they don't reprint Astral Slide with the reprint of Renewed Faith I'm going to lose it. I need to be able to play my favorite card again! Please wizards!
Okay, Tarkir had Rakshasa, Kaladesh had Bandars, and now Amonkhet has Serpopards. Is cat-hybrids just a thing now? Like rare iconics and broken mythics?
The snakecat really isn't that big of an issue guys, in any format. In standard, we're flush with removal and, as has been mentioned before, a ton of counterspells that get around the ability regardless. In modern, i mean, Gaea's Herald is already card and has seen zero play. Unless you're attempting to make your pet mono U deck work at the kitchen table, i don't think the cat does much, especially at 3 CMC. If nothing else, it adds another interesting dimension to standard. Won't see play outside of that, but that's okay and good nonetheless

Gaea's Herald is not exactly a main deckable card or a clock where as this beats for 4 starting turn 3. It's also not counterable itself.

More to my point of this card's play-ability, a 4/3 that stays a 4/3 isn't really that difficult to get rid of. If the control decks cant get rid of this card, there are a lot more problems going on. Gaea's Herald dies to literally all removal while that cat only dies to all the removal that's played, which is extensive, especially in a control deck worth it's cardboard.
With Prowling Serpopod , Selfless spirit and Archangel Avacyn being in the format blue control has no chance of being playable. I'm predicting that standard is going to be a midrange love fest going forward. I 'm glad they didn't add any protection on Seropopod like they did with Great Sable Stag
This is a top-down set, anything odd will have a mythological origin, especially anything odd looking at rare. As a fan of Greek mythology you won't believe how much wizards put into Theros.

“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Not really a fan of the snake, mostly because it looks like lazy design. Can't they think of something better then the "can't be countered cliche" stapled on to under-costed beef? That being said it won't significantly influence the viability of counters in Standard or that of control decks for that matter. It's not like a million of those are running around in the meta anyway.
On the subject of blue in general I would personally prefer good card-draw to good counters. Glimmer of Genius, gods bless it, just isn't enough.

In my dream, the world had suffered a terrible disaster. A black haze shut out the sun, and the darkness was alive with the moans and screams of wounded people. Suddenly, a small light glowed. A candle flickered into life, symbol of hope for millions. A single tiny candle, shining in the ugly dark. I laughed and blew it out.
Many thanks to HotP Studios. Special thanks to DNC for this great sig.

Pretty sure this is here to appease Vorthoses because it's a fairly niche and unique reference.
I know EDH is heavily-meta dependent, but unless your meta is full of counterspells everywhere that you need all versions of the same effect, I find it hard to justify over the cheaper version or the the one that comes with flash and trample for 1 more mana than the Serpopard. From my own experience nobody bothers to counter Herald when I used to play it and I don't really care for a slightly bigger body for 1 mana more, but hey if you have a different meta, I'm not saying this is a bad choice by any means, just one I wouldn't personally have my own Animar take at the speed of light (or at all in my case...)
I hope that this efficiently costed counterspell hoser means they're going to print permission spells that are at least a little pushed. Otherwise it just kind of feels like you're kicking a man when he's down.

I mean this is MTGSALVATION for fuc...
Oh, right.
So anyway here's my complaint: whoever came up with the name 'Serpopard' should probably not be naming things.
Otherwise everything looks great and I'm peeing my pants in anticipation over some spicy new countermagic and countermagic accessories.
Interesting how they are finding ways to make color hosers that do not mention colors or land type. Guess it is sleeker design.

Turns out they're a thing, a mythological thing, but a thing nonetheless: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serpopard

It's true. This person is probably not a Wizards employee.
I still stand by my argument that they should not be running around out there in the wild naming things with impunity.
