It funny two cards in this thread but only one has been talked about. I would hard cast Renewed Faith probably never but the two life bonus for cycling could be good if there are cool effects like Astral slide to support cycling.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I can't wait till I can play my bicycle land out, thus making me heckbent, while I have Nessie on the field. You know, so I can attack with my Pervert.
The white card is a joke at uncommon... was it really too complex for common? Really? It seems self-explanatory enough. It's also story spotlight 1/5, but it seems pretty uneventful. It seems like this could have been one of those cards that means something in the story but isn't story spotlight, like Dramatic Reversal. But it's a real story spotlight card, which feels really off to me.
The cat snake is a just a great card, obviously. The fact that it combines two creature types makes me suspect that we will be getting tribal in this block, including either cat, snake, or both. We also have zombie jacakals (which could work with jackal tribal or zombie tribal) and a zombie minotaur (which could work with minotaur tribal or zombie tribal), although those would be more for tribal in limited while the cat snake would work better in constructed. And when you think about it, it would make a lot of sense. We already have Felidar Guardian in standard, which would push cat tribal as long as there's cards that synergize with it. Snakes already have Winding Constrictor and Noose Constrictor, both of which are strong uncommons as well. And we already have tons of zombie support from Innistrad (I would be stunned if we don't see any sort of zombie tribal in Amonkhet, the others are just my personal speculation that might or might not happen).
In other news, the green god is named Rhomas. We now have 3/5, still waiting for blue and black (the black god can't be Ilfnir because the Invocation number crunch).
Why are there Simic shenanigans on this plane that I'm not going to attempt to spell right now? No Step On Snek is pretty sweet at least. Three toughness hopefully means it will trade with something rather than just steamroll.

What is it with Magic and funky Cat creatures lately? Tarkir had Rakshasa (Cat Demons), Kaladesh had Bandar (Cat Monkeys), and now Amonkhet has Serpopards (Cat Snakes). Not to mention the return of Felidar (Cat Beasts) in Zendikar and Kaladesh. Is this building to some sort of Cat tribal thing, or is it just "to make weird fantasy creatures, just add Cat"?
I mean, I'm a fan of the Serpopard, it's just an odd trend.
(Also, I imagine that any cycling cards that have added effects when you cycle them are going to end up at least at uncommon - that's one of the relatively few things NWO actually does impact.)
I love the art on the cat, the artist definitely made it work. But... Serpopard? Really?
It's a real thing. Well, a mythological thing, but you know what I mean. I laughed out loud seeing the card and realizing they actually went that deep.
Please be joking. There better be an insane amount of countermagic and something Modern playable. Otherwise this is downright insulting.
Why so?
Countermagic in the modern MTG era is already a joke as is, no need to rub salt in the wounds.
Yeah, this is utter bull***** design. Color hate of the worst sort. I have to play suboptimal or average cards like Remand and Condescend in U Tron, because they cant print a decent ******* counterspell while G&B have been running away with the format for years. Why not just reprint Boil on 1 mana, make it colorless and be done with it?
Remand and Condescend are good cards. That Cat Snake does seem pushed pretty hard but it isn't clear at all that the card will be influential in any format.
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
As someone who could understand the rare-shift for Mindcensor, I'm not sure why Renewed Faith is uncommon. Seems like a pretty basic card to me. The resoundingcycle was at common and arguably more complex.
Uh-oh. Incoming love triangle between Gideon, a god, and Gideon's tragic past.
Some fitting lore from Wikipedia: "It has been suggested that in Ancient Egyptian art the serpopard represents 'a symbol of the chaos that reigned beyond Egypt's borders', which the king must tame. They are normally shown conquered or restrained, as in the Narmer Palette, or attacking other animals."
The lifegain uncommon is a little worrying, perhaps the days of powerful limited are going away for a while. Catsnake is pretty cool though, would suggest that they are moving in a more control direction which could make sense given the invocations and control being Bolas's thing.

Judging by your earlier comments, you set yourself up for that one; Counterspell hasn't been in a standard set in god only knows how long, and there was no indication that it would appear here.
This handsome devil only prevents countering of creatures, not spells, enchants, etc. Or, if we want to bring back the age old argument of "Dies to Doomblade" well, there's that. This thing dies to a stiff breeze.
Blue just got Disallow last set, which is a damn fine counterspell, but I feel for you that Blue has been lackluster in the counter department for the past few years. Then again it seems that way because of the stranglehold it had on early Magic, but there's no undoing history.
We'll have to wait and see what's in store for Blue this set, so you may be happy, or even angrier.
All of the "Counterspell is back, huzzah!!!!" chatter is a little premature. I mean, I want it, I think it's fair, I don't think it'd even be amazing in Standard or Modern, I think it'd do good work to power up control in Standard while also incentivizing two color or monocolor decks instead of the 4C Goodstuff Control we've had of late, but they do hate counterspells. This could easily be in the set because they predicted a meta where Metallic Rebuke, Revolutionary Rebuff, Disallow, and Insidious Will were oppressive and made for a Draw-Go environment (aided by Torrential Gearhulk and Glimmer of Genius. Considering all of those I would be shocked if they went all in and printed Counterspell.

Because countermagic strategies are not really any good in standard, and then they print something like that, lol.
Wich is good, counter is already on low, so people won't be decking this too much for counter protection. If counters were on an all time high, then this thing would infest the meta.
This thread is full of idiots... Lightning Bolt is NOT being reprinted.
Many times has a writer in Wizards said so, because of the plain and simple fact that it's too powerful for what it costs. x/3 creatures shouldn't be able to die at instant speed for one mana without a signifigant drawback. (like PTE giving you a land)
I absolutely guarantee that LB will not be printed in M10, and you can quote me on that.
But why Cat Snake? Creative easter egg? Challenge? Incoming tribal matters? Or just for the lulz?
Because Wizards wants to jump on the internet hype train by combining everything with cats. Cat Monkey was the first step, now Cat Snakes. (Also, I know a lot of people who own ferrets who refer to them jokingly as 'cat snakes'.)
Remember back when Jace looked into Gideon's past, saw his interaction with Erebos, Gideon appeared to make a "wish", I wonder if he was looking for faith?

REALLY?! Then I hope we get a better counterspell, yes, a PUSHED counterspell. 1U - Counter target spell, and EXILE IT.
