Telling the rarity on these cards...such a pain. Guess I should have just assumed rare so that people aren't so butthurt over this card tanking or something.
To those saying fetch hoser in limited...what fetches are in this set? Evolving wilds? So you're likely to have 15-16 basics and 1-2 wilds. Looking at the top 4 cards is heavily likely to yield a basic land to you when your 30 card deck is likely to be almost half lands. The reason mindcensor is good in constructed is because fetches usually have a far smaller number of targets especially in relation to deck size.
2/1 flash for 3 with narrow limited applications at rare. Well at least it wasn't a super expensive card to begin with.
While I agree with what I believe is your suggestion that this was probably printed at rare simply because it's a modern staple, it might also be because they're pushing the search mechanic in this set. Certainly, reprinting this card will allow them to do that.
Sorry for the silly question but if the opponent get what he was searching for - like searching for a land for instance - while looking at the top four cards instead, he can choose to take that card and if the type of card isn´t in those cards, nothing happends?
Don't forget the horrible Sanctum of Ugin for when those Standard zombie decks chain Elder Deep-Fiends and just make you feel miserable on the other side of the table.
Sorry for the silly question but if the opponent get what he was searching for while looking at the top four cards instead, he can choose to take that card right?
Er, yes? With the Mindcensor out, your opponents can find any card that fits their search conditions that's in their top four cards. Diabolic Tutor would allow them to pick any of those cards. Sylvan Scrying would allow them to pick any land card that might have been there. If they find no lands, they can't reveal anything or put anything into their hand.
Glad they still printing futureshifted cards from time to time (old version doesn't look Amonkhet'ish though, maybe they can't see the future SO far, dohohoh). But I expected Seht's Tiger which is unlikely because color protection is almost dropped.
Someday Steamflogger Boss can shine, I believe!
Of course it had to be a Rare, lest it lead to some feel bad moments in Limited when someone cracks their enemy fetchland to fix their mana
You know what really is a feel bad moment? Getting your Evolving Wilds censored. All sets have a basic land searcher, and you really don't need to make mana fixing in limited any harder by putting a hoser at uncommon.
As already said, you'll have 1-2 Wilds tops, and by the time Aven resolves you've probably fixed your mana. Even if you haven't, by turn 3 on the draw you have 30 cards left in your library, which in a 17 land deck and assuming you've seen 4 lands, you'll probably see 1, even 2. It's not like this is Shadow of Doubt, but then again I guess the vocal apologists will defend anything.
So...is there a chance that we get Counterspell too? WOO, the Art of Aven Mindcensor is fantastico ;)Now Imagine counterspell back in modern magic A blue mage can dream...

I kind of had a feeling Aven Mindcensor was going to be in the set because of the collector's number on the Invocation. With the Zendikar Expeditions and Kaladesh Inventions, the cards that were in the set were numbered 1-5. But then when they revealed the rest minus the set included cards I figured I was wrong. Sweet to have it in the set though!
I know a ton cards have been rare-shifted and such, can someone help me remember the last time an uncommon got shifted to rare? (not counting supplemental products like MM and CDR)
I remember seeing someone say that Mindcensor would be in the set and the gods would be enchantment creatures. That was a couple days ago. So the gods are likely to be enchsntment creatures?

I know one rather big example is Loxodon Warhammer. City of Brass is another, albeit much older, example. I wouldn't know many more, those just sprung to mind.

Love the card art, and the fact that it's back in standard!

Also, there will probably be basic land cycling.
