Ok, so Expeditions were lands, Inventions were artifacts, and Invications are just a hodgepodge of sought after cards? I can understand them being different card types, but - maybe I'm missing something - what do the Invocations have in common?
It's weird. Some of them, like the commands, worship, and entomb feel super on-flavor. But then...FoW?
Drowned in a sea of blue permission. They never managed to resolve in the set. Also, why reprint Counterspell and Diabolic Intent, when Mana Drain and Demonic Tutor exist?
Yeah, the overall theme is pretty loose here. I guess it's supposed to be "Oppression/Control" with some additional cards thrown in that fit Amonkhet's flavor (Worship, Entomb, Consecrated Sphinx). But then there's also Aggravated Assault which is just a big ?????? to me. I'm waiting for an article on how the Invocations got made because right now I kind of have the impression they're struggling with ideas for new Masterpiece series already.
I'm wondering if the Gods are enemy colored instead of mono, mostly because they're depicted on the enemy colored ones.
For what it's worth too if Isfet is the name of the Black God based on the demon it doesn't seem to line up with the numbers. Isfet could be a place though too.
Yep, I see it now. It was just timing that I read onto the unedited version then.
While I certainly would also prefer Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Intent isn't a terrible choice by any means, considering how long it has been out-of-print and the price of the foil... it's still a good card for redundancy in EDH due to the singleton nature of the format. In fact I think it's one of the few Invocations (if not the only one) I might have interest in.
There's still 24 Invocations in Hour of Devastation and they like to leave some valuable stuff for the second set, so it's not completely hopeless for Demonic Tutor (and Mana Drain).
Well, my Commander deck managed to dodge all of these cards except possibly Consecrated Sphinx. I suppose that may be a blessing given how weird these are though.

To me, these cards might as well not even exist. They are tremendously ugly, hard to read, and match NOTHING else in Magic. I wouldn't even pick these up for Commander or Cube. If I open one, it is getting sold immediately. What a waste for so many really cool and amazing cards.
Yep, cards are awful. But, hey, rejoice anyway. The more bad versions of highly sought after cards they print, the lower the price will go. Divert that toxic investor and collector money into cards no one wants? Hells ya!
I actually don't like the artwork for a lot/most of these either. I get that it is "on theme", but supercool spells cast by rando pseudo-egyptian gods (with offputting border to boot) doesn't really work for me. A few work better than others, however; I particularly like Mind Twist, Entomb, and Wrath of God. It will be interesting to see what stays particularly valuable out of this subset; outside of FoW, this subset seems somewhat lower value overall than the previous ones, but I could be misremembering how things were.

Sig by Dark Night Cavalier at Heroes of the Plane Studios!
Probably in the next set, along with more red ones.
That's nice. Where are they here though? Oh, WOTC pandering to blue players only. Don't get me wrong now, I don't mind that some cool blue spells got some reprints, but a good portion of the player base shouldn't have to wait like that if that is the case. Note, I am not reacting to you, mostly to WOTC decisions on silly petty things like that.

Oh please. What cards Wizard's chooses to include in a tiny amount of chase alternate cards is hardly demonstrative of who they are "catering" to. If anything, given that the value of these is going to be concentrated heavily in the blue cards, you should be happy as a non-blue player cause you can trade them away and not feel like you wanted to play them.

Oh, that is exactly what I am going to do. As for them "catering", I'd have to disagree, because the ratio of all the blue cards says differently as well.

When reaching for old powerful cards to reprint, they pulled up more blue cards. I'm so shocked. When it comes to old obscenely powerful cards, it's always gonna skew blue.
Nice set of masterpieces I just really Dislike the name text. Seriously which monkey thought that was a good idea. looks cool but completely impractical. glad to see a force of will though
They're masterpieces. They were never supposed to be practical. I don't see why this is really an issue.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)

If you look closer at the art for those cards, you'll see that there are actually two gods standing together and casting those spells (the white and black gods for Vindicate and the black and green gods for Maelstrom Pulse), which leads me to believe that they are monocolored.
Did you see I corrected it.
Reminder there's a regular version and a masterpiece version.
