First reaction: What the heck?
After a while: These are actually pretty awesome!
The only thing that bugs me are those random hieroglyphs in front of some text, it's already hard to read without having to find beginning first.
Yeah I think these are super ugly but I'm sure other people will like them.
I think the issue is that I just like magic cards that LOOK like magic cards. Same reason I traded my future sight goyfs when MM came out.
I think this is the source of the visceral reaction - Zendikar Expeditions were basically just full art nonbasics. Kala Inventions were a little bit more out there but still ultimately felt like a Magic card. These things, with their sandstone mana symbols, excess hieroglyphs in front of the card type, stacked power/toughness, and jarringly ancient frames, look like they are from a different game entirely. They feel super alien, which I'm sure was the idea, but that clearly rubs folks the wrong way.

Sweet jumping jesus these are ******* hideous. Ancient Mew looking *****. Expeditions looked weird, Inventions looked gaudy, but these...hoy...these are just miserable.
I like the frame (total Egyptology nerd here), but I am underwhelmed with most of the art. Aven Mindcensor looks glorious but for a lot of the other ones the art feels a little bit barren and simplistic...maybe that's the idea, to invoke ancient and powerful Magic (as in, Alpha-Beta art) but for instance that Counterspell is pretty uninspired.
Uh, I don't think you can count the value of these as driven by the value of their old versions. People who want this counterspell want THIS counterspell, and the fact that they can get other counterspells for $2 doesn't change that these counterspells will never drop below $50.
I wonder if the hieroglyphics before/after the cardnames/cardtypes actually mean anything. Like, Wizards may have just put them there for stylistic reasons, but is it possible that Wizards actually did something clever with those symbols like spell out a secret message across all the cards?

Been adding these to the Name and Number Crunch as they appeared and have an observation. Assuming that Wizards does the 30/24 split like Kaladesh these first 30 will be Blue or Blue/Black focused. Chain Lightning's number of 26 means there are 4 after it, including Pulse at 29, meaning 30 will be Multi color (possibly Supreme Verdict). I expect the other 24 will be more white/red/green focused

Yeah we'll see how ppl feel in a few weeks. The maybe-real/maybe-fake split cards have grown on me now that I've gotten used to them. But this might be too much.

The frames look like diarrhea poop, which is compounded by the barely legible card names, goofy fonts and unrecognizable art. This is coming from someone who likes Future Sight and white-border cards. Bleh.

These are the masterpieces for this set? That's cool and all, I just wish the card names were legible.
Like, that's all I ask is that the mechanically relevant parts of a card be easily identifiable.
I'm curious what these look like in other languages.
All that said, I don't ever intend to use any of these "fancy" versions anyway, so it really doesn't matter to me, except when I'm trying to figure out what my opponent is casting.

Aren't Masterpieces always in English?
As for the Hieroglyph font-
it's admittedly cheesy, but it's the only part of the card I actually *like*.
The font used in the rules text is far more offensive to me.

the names of the card are hard to read when I first opened these I thought these were like those special cards in Born of the gods like the quests then noticed the text box, looks too tacky.
This thread is full of idiots... Lightning Bolt is NOT being reprinted.
Many times has a writer in Wizards said so, because of the plain and simple fact that it's too powerful for what it costs. x/3 creatures shouldn't be able to die at instant speed for one mana without a signifigant drawback. (like PTE giving you a land)
I absolutely guarantee that LB will not be printed in M10, and you can quote me on that.
I doubt those are all of them. There's more on the way at some point I'm sure. Could also be saved for the next set.

All of them (save the five also found in Amonkhet proper) will be revealed on the mothership tomorrow.

but the theme here is so loose I don't think I can predict much.
I do think Demonic Tutor and Damnation are *very* safe bets, though,
and Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker could show up as well.
