God these borders are hideous. And such small windows for the art. Following "full" art masterpieces, that's a disappointment. (even if the actual black border isn't there, all the more reason that the art should have had more room to be expanded) But hey, was bound to get an ugly masterpiece border.
The Cat god casting Vindicate seems to support our claim.
The black god is right next to Oketra. They're both casting shiny beams of white and black magic, respectively.

I can see the Corc god next to him (in front even) pretty clearly (and by just following the trace of green magic). But then again, I'm on a huge work monitor.
These are certainly not what I expected.
I thought the hieroglyphs in the card name were a little distracting at first, but after a while of looking at some of the larger images it was easier than I thought to read the card names. So I think it won't be too much of a problem when you actually have them in hand in real life.
Curious to see more of them, and get a better look at them in person.
Wow. I'm cool with the frame but man the font for the names and types is wtf. It seriously took me three or four minutes to realize what was going on with the names. If they REALLY wanted to go Egyptian style they would have put the names down one side vertically. That would probably have been a bit much.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
I LOVE these omg. The frame nails the Egyptian theme, the font makes me feel like I'm deciphering hieroglyphics. That is exactly what I want from a set of special Egyptian cards.

B- Amonkhet proper has some decent countermagic in its own right.

I'm guessing these are themed around the gods mechanically, which means the blue Ibis god has something to do with countermagic.
This has got to be the oddest set of cards ("ALL THE COUNTERSPELLS! And some other things!!") and the ugliest frame/fonts I have seen. Some of the art is good, but ruined by the too-large frames, and a lot of the art just looks bad and weakly CGI'd.
These are going to be cheaper than the Kaladesh inventions, and to the extent the Kaladesh inventions helped drive down the price of other Kaladesh singles by driving players to open more packs... that effect will not be present here. I'm actually relieved I hate this so much, because it saves me money/envy. (That, and now I'll probably open one.)
That said, a normal Loyal Retainers reprint in the set would be great for Commander - that's a very pricey but cool card. Any chance we'll actually get it?
