toasthaste asked: "So are gatherer comments ACTUALLY coming back? I know it's not your department but can you like, leave an ominous note on a relevant person's door that just says 'two and a half years'"
"I believe they are eventually going to cone back. I know it’s been a long time since they went away."
Do we have any knowledge about when or if Gatherer Comments will come back? I've been seeing regular updates to Gatherer, beyond just adding new cards, but does this mean we'll eventually get the ability to comment back?
wow I didn't know it they were gone at the first place and I guess it was about 3 years ago when I did looked at a gather comment on a card.
I do know that IMDB just dropped the messageboard, reasons seemed to limit complaints about the movie. I do wonder if wizards dropped the comments because of the complaints on a card, complaints about R&D and/or complaints about the reserve list.
I seriously can´t believe that they aren´t doing anything about it. It´s a good thing to have a living community and lots of people are coming to gathere to check out a card which also can give good information from the players in the comments.
I know players can just go to other sites, I just think it´s lazy of Wizards not to do anything about it

It went away due to a server problem. It wasn't removed intentionally. There were very few complaints about specific cards, mostly just comments on how useful the cards were in different formats, or what cards it went well with, and requests for reprints.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
I used to use the 'communaty rating' function when brainstorming decks. Bring it back.
Likewise, it's very helpful in catching "missing gems", cards one never knew that are popular. (Storm Crow though)
As the official producer of this game, it's very lazy on Wizards' part not to fix their own search engine. What company asks its players to look at other media for cards discussion? That's like a parent telling a teacher to speak with an "uncle" about a child.
askmaroquestionmarks asked: "I would rather WotC not bother to fix the gatherer comments. There's so much social media now a days that it's totally unnecessary. It would pull resources away from other things I want WotC to make much more. Plus then someone has to moderate all those gatherer comments which is more time not spent working on other forms of community outreach or digital products."
"My inbox says there are a lot of people that disagrees with you."
I think wizards are under the assumtion that 3rd party does it better then them, so why try to compete?
Keep in mind that Gatherer is the official card database. It gets advertised on tokens and the mothership, and it is the first destination for many players who come looking for information on the game. Unless wizards decides to just outsource the database to one of those great 3rd parties, then Gatherer deserves to function properly.
I would like to see them return. Having the community rating on cards was actually pretty nice.
Also if I didn't understand why a card had such a low rating, I could check the comments and *some* of them were insightful and constructive. It was useful as a newer player and that's what wizards is trying to do right? Cater to newer players
I'm sure they don't miss curating the comments, but I do miss the combo or alternative card suggestions that the comments provided, and the star ratings.
I used to love making Gatherer comments! I think the last one I made was for Chariot of Victory. There was also a user named LotsofPoopy who I found hilarious with all of this "Pros like me..." comments. Gold.

Entirely possible. The S******horpe problem on Gatherer's comment section (e.g., Roo****er Thief instead of Rootwater Thief) also sucks. MTGS has the same problem, but not as radically.
Until then, MTGS allows you to comment on a card. Why not use that?

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
The real winner in my book for Gatherer comments is MasterOfEtherium, who capitalized every first letter of his sentences. The top rated comment on Master of Etherium pokes fun at this style, stating: "All Artifact Creatures You Control Have The First Letter Of Each Word In Their Text Box Capitalized. (This Includes Reminder Text And Flavour Text.)"
When I started getting into Magic, Gatherer comments were incredibly useful and informative and helped me find links and synergies between cards I'd have no way of knowing about being a new player. Since comments and the rating systems have been defunct, I've barely visited Gatherer since. I hope they come back, for my and all new player's sake.

I still use it when I'm searching for a certai keyword or a tribe when creating themed EDH decks. Miss the comments and especially ratings dearly. And still always amused by people who bother to say "gatherer is up" after every expansion's release.
It's because a majority of magic players use gatherer to look up cards because it is reliable and official.

Internet Explorer never seem to give up though...
Internet Explorer exists because all OS's should come bundled with a webbrowser. Most experienced users use it to download Firefox or Chrome.
Internet Explorer? You mean that tool for downloading Firefox?
