Hey, remember that time when WOTC spoiled this thing and said it was for kitchen table players? That it was there for the Timmies who wanted to resolve big guys without worrying about counterspells?
Yeah. Good times.
Cavern of Souls was designed as a foil to permission-based decks that were dominating Standard (Delver + Snapcaster), this was specifically mentioned in a WotC article back then. I think by Zac Hill.
"Alright. So this card fixes the mana in your creature decks and ensures that basically anything you cast can resolve if you want it to. We expect it to define almost every format in which it can be played. But this card is part of a bigger picture, as I'm sure you can tell. Specifically, there's one big question I'm sure is on your mind: Why does it have that last ability?
Well, I'm glad you asked!
I'll be real with you. We messed up with Snapcaster Mage."
For those who think that this price is coming down: Snapcaster Mage prices ROSE after it's announcement as mythic. Think on that for a second.
This is FAR different.
Snapcaster was drafted for 8 months, while Cavern of Souls was drafted for 4 months.
People expected Snapcaster to be in MM17 and he has been dropping until now in anticipation of the spoiler season. Cavern of SOuls was still a wildcard and far from a guarantee.
The price will drop substantially although not for long.... And then possibly rebound to become more expensive than it was. Seems to happen to every expensivecard

It is pretty silly when you compare this to Boseiju. Want to cast spells without getting countered? Well, you have to deal with this land coming into play tapped, only making colorless, and shocking you each time. Want to cast creatures without getting countered? Sure, here's mana of any color!

Probably like between $28-$37 not that much of a drop.
So here's my question now. What is the last land going to be? I'd say something like glimmervoid but we haven't seen any artifacts yet.
The last land falls between Selesnya and Simic Guildgate. The most logical option there would be Shimmering Grotto - for manafixing purposes, the other option heard is Seraph Sanctuary due to the slight angel subtheme.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
I don't understand the mythic rarity complaints given there are so few mythics that I would prefer to this and it would not be rare anyway with its current price tag and limited playability (an unplayable auto-first pick for $ is not really healthy for limited imo).
Set needed a few more chase mythics, that's one.
Why exactly does the set "need" more chase mythics? I remember when mythic rarity didn't exist at all and somehow Magic did just fine. Modern is becoming increasingly inaccessible and some of the most in demand staple cards need substantial reprints to make the format affordable. We've already seen through three Masters products that mythic printings do not substantially decrease the price for cards in great demand. These products, with their limited print runs and $10 per pack MSRP, should not have mythic rares at all.

There's really no reason to bump this to mythic to meet a quota for chase mythics when there are plenty of other cards that would have fit that bill and wouldn't need a rarity bump, and even a card or two that no one would have minded getting an upgrade.
So... can anyone tell me the rarity shift for this? Did this card really destroyed limtied in the past to justifie a rarity bump?
I would believe the shift is based on the price of the second market. Wizards still lives with the fear of angry Carrion Ants collectors (The reason why we have a Reserve List).
I wish a card that I would put into most of my Commander decks was easier to obtain than Mythic. Kind of a jerk move, really. But at least it's reprinted at all and will be a little easier to get.

You and everyone in here are such hypocites. You act as if Wizards should just seeve your will and print Black Lotus at common and make if worth a dollar. There is a reason why this and Snappy were upgraded. It is to preserve value of the set so this doesn't ruin LGS's margins. MM2015 was a disaster and Wizards is learning from their mistakes. There is so much value in this set at Rare. I cannot for the life of me understand why everyone feels the need to complain about every little thing. Get over yourselves. In the meantime buy the damn product or not. If you don't I will.

Edit - found it. It was the preview article for the card. http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/latest-developments/gonna-hate-2012-04-20

WHAT!!!
Those stock people are real morons aren't they they don't even know how many more there are going to be out there.
Besides prices drops because there is more of them now. Snapcaster and now this s not going to get a big hit in price,
And plus Craterhoof and liliana are assumed to get drops but not this nor snappy why?
Thanks to DNC from Heroes of the Plane Studios for the sig
Check my Pauper Cube!
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
yup, the fact that the original snappy is invitational card made it worth more for collectors.

I'm still expecting upshifted Ensnaring Bridge as the final colorless mythic.

In his Second 100 days - Yawgmoth's Bargain is unrestricted in Vintage.
What is going to happen in the Next 100 days!!!
You could be right... now that the signets have been spoiled, there is only one artifact left and it fits the number crunch.
