Unless I'm mistaken (and this might have changed since the G. Probe banning) but didn't Storm and Thing Ascension both play Pyromancer's Ascension? Seems like a good reprint to me.
To be fair, this is a $7+ card, unlike Seance. Of course it'll drop but this is far from a poor card and it's always handy to have around should Storm be a thing again.

Yes, Storm used to play Pyromancer Ascension when Gitaxian Probe/Preordain were legal. Unfortunately Baral and Gifts Storm have completely made Ascension un-required for the archetype (and reduces the amount of "dead" cards in the deck for comboing off). It's still a decent reprint from a price perspective, but it's chaff in terms of MM3 in the rare slot.
My guess is that this was already locked for the set before the Probe ban. Unfortunately Storm uses Gifts now and no tier 1 deck plays this card in Modern so the price will be very low.
At least I've seen the card been played in Modern before (which is better than what could ever be said for Seance). But the combined factor of not being used currently and the general direction MM3 is heading (nice division of value across the board and probability of better print run) means its current "middling-because-it-could-still-be-potentially-back" price is definitely not going to hold out.
In the grand scheme of things though, at least they picked out a card that was somewhat viable once in the format.
This is spot-on the kind of less-valuable rare/mythic that should go into any MM set, not the irrelevant chaff we too often get. Pick cards that were once played or are played in tier-3 decks. The card is not a home-run, but we expect that, they just need to avoid including cards that were never even played in modern.
So, yes, I approve. Will make it in my non-competitive, bad storm deck.
