Everybody, take a step back, the floodgates might be opening soon...
(Even if the floodgate of chaff doesn't open and this is literally the only chaff, another floodgate of "I shouldn't be getting any worthless rares in my $10 booster" will open solely because this card is confirmed, so still brace yourself either way!)
I'm sorry for not commenting on the card itself, but does it look like it gives much room of discussion other than complaints?

What's there to say? It's financially worthless already, not really constructed playable outside of maybe some fringe Commander strategies, and is pretty good in Limited. It's Séance.
Card makes some amount of sense given the themes prevalent for draft purposes in the set. That said, yeah, as far as a value standpoint, its practically worthless. But one has to remember something very important about sets like these. The Singles values in boxes are going to tend to average at or below what the msrp of a box is going to tend to be (for a standard set it tends to be significantly below the msrp of a box, it just so happens that standard set boxes can be purchased significantly below msrp as well. Sets like this with an msrp of $240, could be pre-ordered as low as $180 until just a couple days ago online, now I believe someone mentioned today that it was up to about $200 per box. That is still below the msrp as far as that goes, just not as significantly so as you would see for a standard set, though at the same time the quality of cards in a standard set is going to be significantly worse across the board with far more bulk rares than in a masters set like this one.
With that said, the point I am trying to get at, is that while you will have higher end cards like Damnation, Snapcaster, the 5 zendikar fetches, among other things, you are also going to see other cheap rares that are going to balance out the value spectrum. So yes, its to be expected that you will get some cards like this one with near zero relative value but overall I think we will still see plenty enough good from this set to make it worth between $8-$10/pack to open, and hey, with any luck a pack with a Séance may also have a good uncommon or foil in it to help balance that out as well. And as before, don't underestimate the value potential of such cards in draft.
It was a turd in Dark Ascension, and it's a turd here. I actually caught I guy at one of the shops I frequented trying to build around this, but it still didn't feel worthwhile.
I am usually posting from my phone. I will usually be brief and there may be typos.

I think I have a pretty good guess on why this reprint happened. Ether someone lost their mind, thought that Populating Wayfaring Temples would be hilarious in Limited, or both. Probably both.
(Before someone points out that Wayfaring Temple is not confirmed, it's One of the 13 cards with Populate, which is the WG Archetype for MM3 Limited, and therefore a somewhat safe guess for a card for this set.)
The hype is real. This said, I wonder what kind of horse *****e would Maro pop out to justify including such a doorknob in a supposedly high-value, high interest limited set?
I can only say "....Really?" Even for blink archtype this is incredibly strange and definite chaff. LRR must be so super irked at how lame this preview is.

I don't think Maro works on these kinds of sets.
As before, Seance would be better if it didn't put a token in play, but the card. At least then blink shenanigans would make it good.

Don't worry about it, I understand what you're saying, except I've just given up (or more like I've given up a long time ago and was just being lazy to reassert that position this time round) on trying to explain what you just said to those who basically expect the EV of every pack to be better than MSRP. Definitely agree with the value at uncommon, it's a lot more likely a MM3 pack can help mitigate a loss much, much better than MM2 ever did.
That being said, this particular card literally has no defense for it (other than possibility a troll remark at the buyout). It wasn't a card that fell out of favor of the format sometime back (Pyromancer Ascension), it isn't really a card with decent usability in EDH (Primal Command), it isn't even a "neat" card from the past people didn't mind seeing again (Abyssal Specter). Even back in Innistrad, pretty sure all people remembered of this card was how frustrating it was to open it as a rare and that's pretty much what this card contributes outside of its Limited uses. I'll argue that if this was demoted to uncommon and Goblin Assault was still at rare, there are probably more people fond of Goblin Assault then there are people for Seance, honestly (at least Goblin Assault was once Standard-playable).
I think WotC is just competing to see how bad a preview card they can give to LRR. Nothing they've previewed in the past few sets has been any good at all, but their Magic content is still a huge draw. It's weird.
I just never understood why Seance didn't say "If its your turn, that creature gains Haste". At least it wouldn't be absolutely garbage. Dark Ascension was Magic's Cyderdark Impact (Yugioh's worse pack).

At least it fits well with the GW "populate" Limited archetype.
