Upshifted to mythic is no surprise at all. We all knew it was going happen because it happened to Dark Confidant.
And here is the rarity upgrade. And I think it is a bad decision to do so.
A lot of reprints might be great etc. But in an expensive set like this and rarity upgrades like this none of the prices will go down like it happened in CON2 or the fethces in Khan(s).
Seriously you are suprised by upgrade to mythic... We all knew it was going happen because it happened to TarmogoyfDark Confidant
And you still aren't reading the part where an upgrade from Rare to Mythic from a card that was released in Alara or later has LITERALLY NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
After all, if Cavern of Souls makes the cut, the second instance may be occurring really soon.
I REALLY doubt Cavern gets upshifted. For one, MaRo is not a fan of lands being Mythic. For two, the card isn't even particularly good in limited.
I would bet Cavern won't be included at all before it is bumped to mythic, since it is one of the few powerful cards from that era that would be perfectly reasonable to reprint in standard.
If you're looking for another upshifted mythic, Ensnaring Bridge is probably a better bet.
It is an analog to Bob, from its CMC to its power level to the fact that an invitational winner designed it. It should be mythic.
But it wasn't, and is the first time that a Rare from a set with Mythics in it was upgraded to Mythic. And why? It certainly wasn't for Limited, and the effect, while very good, doesn't justify a rarity bump for complexity. Bumped just for the value, similar to Goyf, I suspect.
But even worse because you could at least make the argument that if Mythic would have existed at Future Sight, perhaps Tarmogoyf would have been mythic. This is the first post Alara rare to mythic bump. Incredibly disappointing. This will set a dangerous new precedent that any valuable rare can be up-shifted to mythic. I am very curious to hear their justification for this.

Agree and disagree. First, MaRo had nothing to do with the design of this set, so Cavern at mythic is still very much a possibility. But, when it comes to Ensnaring Bridge, I think you may have something there; weird effect, powerful in Modern, strangely high price, would be really annoying in Limited, and in dire need of a reprint. Seems like prime mythic criteria.

you guys are nuts, snap is played in sooo many decks, they are literally built around him. he's at my this to hold at bay the amount he gets printed. current owners should be happy that his value won't get demolished. art is waaaay better btw.
It's not over-powered in limited. It was not mythic when mythic were available. It's just let's-sell-more-boxes-uh-uh. And the art is not even great, all dark, all blue and the bald guy. MEH. Money grab. Will noble hierarch also get upgraded to mythic? Blood moon?
Oh, but yeah, stoic angel is down to rare, so it all evens out, right? Blargh.
The art is actually (when giving it a proper look) pretty great.
Is it snapcaster? The answer depends on whether you are attached to the original art, but for a lot of people, they will find this better. It's more realistic, more dynamic (the original was quite 'flat') and there's some cool detail.
And....sure it got rarity-shifted, but are people seriously complaining that this card is in the set?
Jeez, gift horse, mouth, something something... Even at mythic it's putting more copies into circulation. Just like goyf before. This is a BIG print run remember.

Is mythic really that much harder to come by? 1/6 packs contains 1/15 mythic where as the other 5/6 contains 1/60 or so rares so getting a particular rare seems just as unlikely as a particular mythic??? I suppose it is slightly rarer but both are around 1% chance, so in either case buying 100 packs to get one card seems crazy wether it was rare or mythic.
Seriously? People are surprised that this got the bump? Hell I was more aurprised that Damnation DIDN'T. I would have thought that this was obvious.
I'll have to agree. It looks like a lot of the negative comments are using this as an excuse to voice their concerns over the mythic rarity in general. Only a couple of people are fixating on the post-Alara rare thing.
Not surprised, but disappointed. It didn't need to be rare by any of the official guidelines they set. The only reason to make it rare was the secondary market they claim to not pay attention to.

Cards are game pieces, and should be treated as such, easily replaceable.
Cards are not money, investments, or a retirement fund, and should never have been treated as such.
Wizards made a mistake caving to speculators once, and we still pay for that mistake 2 decades later.
"Entitled:" the entire ad hominem fallacy condensed into a single word. It doesn't strengthen your argument to attack motivations, it just makes you look like you don't understand the argument.

It's less "It's so much harder to open" and more "This limits supply significantly for single purchases."
For every one mythic printing, there are two of a rare.
We want the flavor of mythic rare to be something that feels very special and unique. Generally speaking we expect that to mean cards like Planeswalkers, most legends, and epic-feeling creatures and spells. They will not just be a list of each set's most powerful tournament-level cards.
