If you thought snappy was going to be a rare after seeing the previous master's sets, you were only lying to yourself.
Art isn't too bad, kinda makes me think of the new dark confidant art, cheesy in its own way. Not a huge fan of it personally, would have been sweet to have a Terese artwork to match force.
To everyone complaining he's at mythic- what other iconic blue card could they put at mythic? (That isn't Temporal Mastery, because that's more than likely the other blue mythic.)
Count me as one of those who think this is the best art for the card so far. I know the card itself is generic and can be used anywhere technically, but I really appreciate how the art screams INNISTRAD much better than the other two.
As for the Mythic upgrade, one could consider it disappointing, But I wouldn't say it was completely unexpected, it has been about 9 years since the Mythic Rarity was introduced and I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later.

I was lying to myself after seeing exactly 0 post-Alaran-Rares upgraded to mythic in the past 3 Masters set? Mkay.

Cards comparable to Goyf and Bob in power and price can expect similar treatment; that's the only pattern that matters, not "how rare was it's original printing".

Keep in mind that precedence is an extremely poor means to predict what Wizards will do. You're treating something done in only 3 reprint sets (5 if you count Conspiracy) as set-in-stone reprint policy of a company that has shown a willingness to change its actual policies with little fanfare. An article or social media post from MaRo or another WoTC employee talking about it would make this a broken promise, but as-is it's no more than a broken pattern.
That said, I really was looking forward to Snap's price decreasing, and I'm sad that it won't get hit like I though it would.
It's not over-powered in limited. It was not mythic when mythic were available. It's just let's-sell-more-boxes-uh-uh. And the art is not even great, all dark, all blue and the bald guy. MEH. Money grab. Will noble hierarch also get upgraded to mythic? Blood moon?
Oh, but yeah, stoic angel is down to rare, so it all evens out, right? Blargh.
The angel was always at rare.

So, why do you guys think SCM was upshifted and Goblin Guide stayed the same? I mean they are both iconic cards seeing multiple format and deck play. Further, red is really weak in the mythic slot so an upshifted GG would have made even more sense.

bolas-our-lord-and-savior asked: Care to explain the snapcaster rarityshift?
Products like Masters always have some rarity shifting. Snapcaster Mage is an exciting card with a unique effect that easily could have been mythic rare in its original printing.
I often talk about how mythic rares need “the potential for awesomeness” and Snapcaster Mage definitely meets that criteria.
Finally, we need to spread exciting cards across all the rarities and part of the shift was making sure mythic rare had its share of splash. With the enemy fetch lands and Damnation, rare was already high in excitement.
Not surprised. Snappy deserves to be Mythic, to be honest. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of the new art (still think ISD is BY FAR the best), but it's definitely good he's in the set!

Because Wizards doesn't look at Goblin Guide as a card that never should have been printed in the first place.
While I'm disappointed in the upshift, mainly because it was considered fine at rare in Innistrad, and the Masters sets are "supposedly" a more powerful than usual draft environment, I can't say that I'm surprised.
What I find most disheartening is that we let Wizards continue to get away with claiming the nonsense that they don't look at the secondary market. We all know that they do, and that they are carefully putting just enough value, spread out in a way to entice the maximum sales, while not making it too easy to obtain these expensive reprints. That is fine, it's their right and goal to maximize their profits. I personally just hate the statements to the contrary, and then that there is a certain segment of the player base that lets them get away with anything (just as there is a segment that complains about anything). I could even say that Wizards could wrap up $5 bills and charge $10, and there would be people who would buy it if the wrapper said "Magic the Gathering" ;-)
I just wish that they would stop the lying about not looking at secondary market values!
And as an aside to MaRo's comment about exciting cards at both rare and mythic: when they utilize the same slot in packs, they really are not that different. Moreso that some are just rarer rares...
Considering that the WU mechanic in this set is blink, this dude's rarity shift makes sense. I'm disappointed as a collector, but not as a limited player.

Delver of Secrets won't be in the set because WOTC won't do DFC in a supplemental set.
Cryptic Command was at rare the past two sets.
Vendilion Clique had been reprinted in both Masters sets before.
Does Vedalken Shackles even see play anymore?
It happened to Tarmo, it happened to Confidant, it was bound to happen to Snaps.

Love the new art, though from this thread at least it seems to be pretty divisive.
Atleast we are getting other great cards to dimish this disapointment

$40 vs $40 -- the INN foils are $80.
Don't mind me, I'll just be over here
I wonder what their justification will be for the mythic rarity on this one(If we will get one). Probably something about limited...
