Just with the three confirmed at least rare cards on the booster pack art it's already looking bad for modern masters. Stoic Angel $2, Griselbrand $12, Domri Rade $7. Those are some low end reprints. Griselbrand was just a grand prix promo. Stoic Angel didn't need to be reprinted at all. Domri is only $7 he better not be a mythic. I'll be waiting for the whole set to come out.
The chances we'll see Domri at rare are slim to none. WOTC has stated over and over that PW are mythic material

Exactly. I don't get how anyone could get the idea that they'd ever down shift a planeswalker to rare when they've been mythic ever since mythic became a rarity level.
Anyone else annoyed that we finally get fullart lands of a plane other than Zendikar and we finally lose the hedrons, just to end up with Bolas horns in ever freaking shot? Seriously can get some fullart land without annoying fluff that doesn't need to be there?

I'm seeing this packaging and at the same time I'm not, because this... this is just unreal. I know it's just packaging, but whoever decided what goes on these packs is either one of the biggest trolls on this planet or has no idea how to do his/her job properly. She might've already been on the packs of innistrad, but instead of Liliana of the veil, who is one of the most wanted, if not THE most wanted reprint for this masters, you decided to put Domri ******* Rade on the cover of your premium product???
Griselbrand is okay, he's good but there are so many promo copies which killed his price and I assume a lot of excitement when opening him. Stoic angel is baffling as well, I actually understand this one even less than domri. I still think this piece of art by volkan baga is drop-dead gorgeous, but cards that see absolutely ZERO play in modern have no business in being on the packaging.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
I wonder if these products are marketed to long time players who typically play modern, or new players coming in who want to see what the fuss is when it comes to older cards. my thoughts is this is for new m15 + players who most likely play commander. looking for domri in a RG commander build? here's your chance to pull him . I wouldnt be surprised if this whole set is to help the commander community build, I think it's misleading to think this product is only for moden format. WOTC knows commander is pushing product, why not give em a set to help build
Maybe this will push a few player in seeing if they cant come up with a new tier one viable modern deck with a few of these lesser known gems.
I'm sure there's a nugget of gold in there for you die hards but magic is experiencing a huge increase in popularity. alot of these people never got a chance to play with the old stuff and what product could be better to introduce them. Also I agree with the profs prediction that after amonkhet we go back to dominaria so new players can get a hint of the lore of yesteryear.
What is Kimahri doing on Amonkhet and why is he a Sphinx now?

Multiple instances of lifelink on the same creature are redundant.
—Eli Shiffrin, Rules Manager, on a design stacking lifelink instances
The fact that this has Stoic Angel coupled with the recent price dip out of nowhere for Noble Hierarch leads me to believe that the latter is in the set as well.
On the other hand, the fact that one of the two Black mythics is already from the Innistrad block could mean that they had the balls to not reprint Liliana at all. It's still possible of course, but from all the sets they can choose from are both Black Mythics really going to be from the same block? It would explain the secrecy they had with the product.
I have all the Lilianas I need, but if this set doesn't contain her I'm cancelling all preorders on the spot.
Especially because snapcaster mage has a monocle on his eye and whoever on the box art doesn't.
If it's new art the lack of a monocle doesn't preclude the guy on the box from being snap. I mean the dark confidant reprint looked VERY different than the original.
Especially because snapcaster mage has a monocle on his eye and whoever on the box art doesn't.
I mean, to be fair, the snapcaster featured on the art in Innistrad is a Snapcaster Mage, not the Snapcaster Mage, considering he isn't a legend.
I certainly like that it looks like they did away with the horrible MM15 packs style. While they were a nice idea on paper, the fact that they were so easy to repack was kind of an embarrassment.
To be honest, seeing Grizzy on the packs makes me kind of hopeful that Through the Breach made it in there somewhere as a fun, red rare.

They can't put Through the Breach in because they didn't want to include a whole Arcane theme and it wouldn't make sense in the draft environment without a bunch of other Arcane cards and of course the most important thing about a short printed $10 per pack MSRP product that is heavily speculated on is the goddamn draft environment
Through the Breach only needs a big splashy creature to be usable. Having bonus Arcane stuff is nice, but no more necessary than having more than two exalted creatures in MM2015.
Or Dragonstorm in the original. There were six dragons in the set, and 5 were Mythic.
Wow! We Know a grand total of 3 cards and can guess at a possible new art snapcaster mage reprint from the packaging and the sky is already falling! They got pretty bad feedback from the last roster so I'm willing to bet this one is somewhere between MM1 and MM2 in relevant reprints. Not, going to try to speculate. As for a LOTV reprint, if she doesn't show up here she will probably be in Amonkhet. Unlike most modern staples where they can't print them in a standard legal set, LOTV isn't a standard warping card. With no strong discard effects and graveyard and discard mechanics leaving standard she could easily be introduced in standard.
I just hope that together with the general reduced support for Modern, the packaging art was a conscious choice to actually not drive marketing over-the-top, which is their actual attempt at price control without harming their future reserves (yes I know mass-reprinting solves problems, but that means using up their "reserves" of using that as an option when they really need it, so yeah I don't see them doing it yet).
The Griselbrand reprint annoys me to no end though, it was just a GP promo and its presence either means both Black Mythics are from Innistrad or we won't get that one coveted reprint most of us expected to be in this set. If both Mythics are from Innistrad, some spell better be in rare then.

If MM15 was a reliable indicator, most of the mythics in this set will be from Innistrad and RTR blocks. 9 of the 15 mythics there were from Zendikar and Scars blocks, and of the 6 that weren't, 4 were reprints from the original MM and another had just been unbanned.
Folks, get ready for some chaff, especially if both LotV makes the cut and Tarmogoyf gets another go-around. For one, I expect all three mythic miracles to be in this set.

Don't bet on that one. LotV was originally slotted to be the black PW in M15, but R&D decided it would be a mistake to put her in standard again.

This is correct but R&D could change their decision if thety believe the current standard format has enough answers to LOTV.
Regarding the spoiled cards - I believe we can't judge the set knowing just 3 cards even though two of those are quite bad/very odd selections. We didn't expect MM17 to be all staples and high-end cards and knew (unfortunately) that a good chunk of it will be limited fodder. As much as I would like to see Zen fetches reprinted, I hope MM17 will not be the venue for that. This set is way limited and has high MSRP for these lands to see a decent price decrease

No low estimate, it's been stated, and can be checked by the numbers, that there are 3 of each non-full art lands.
