I apologize if this is the wrong forum, but I haven't seen an announcement from Wizards about this particular product before, so I figured I'd mention it here.
Saw this the other day and figured I'd pick one up.
No doubt this product is marketed towards trying to get people invested or interested in Standard again, much like the Standard Showdown stuff last month. I suppose the minor draw is wondering what "mystery" pack you get from "modern history", according to the back of the box. If it was intended to entice Modern players to purchase it, it likely would have been worded so.
The fact there are non standard packs in there are interesting. Wonder if they are legit or some sort of scam reseals like most "mystery boxes" seem to be?

They're legit. It's because the distributor has an excess of unsold product and they need to figure out how to rid themselves of it. Nobody is going out of the way to buy any more Dragon's Maze? Throw it in as a "mystery" pack and it'll sell. I figure because of how overprinted the RTR block was, most of the mystery packs will be RTR, Gatecrash, or Dragon's Maze. I bought one, and indeed the mystery pack was RTR.
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
This kind of thing has a dodgy feel to it. It's difficult to trust most sealed product that isn't part of Wizards' production.
Someone supposedly opened a shadowmoor booster in one of the boxes so I'm taking my chances wizards actually packaged these to sell in big stores. I'm going to be checking into it more tomorrow when I buy 2.
I've opened a few. The "modern history" packs have all been either RTR or Journey. I've pulled some decent stuff from them (Ishkanah, Tamiyo, Blood Crypt) so I don't think they're mapped. Pretty sure they're just those "3 packs + promo" torn up and repackaged into a more palatable form. Besides, a Liliana is a Liliana, but the Mystery Box could be anything! It could even be a Liliana!

I got a Morningtide pack in mine. Of course, it just had a Door of Destinies in it, but still...
1 Kaladesh Booster Pack
1 Aether Revolt Booster Pack
1 Amonkhet Booster Pack
1 Hour of Devastation Booster Pack
1 Ixalan Booster Pack
2 Mystery booster pack from Magic: The Gathering Modern history
1 premium Planeswalker card from the history of Magic: The Gathering Duel Decks or Planeswalker decks
So you're rolling the dice at precon PWs, it seems. Maybe you get a new one from the PW decks that's pretty meh, or maybe you get one from an old Duel Deck that's not so meh.

When did they update this so that the Wal-Mart mystery box always has a Planeswalker? Is that new info?
