Hey Affinity, want a Mana Leak for U? Another amazing preview card, this will obviously see play in Standard and possibly in Modern, and even Limited, counterspells may not be that hot in Limited but a Mana Leak for 1 mana can be a massive tempo loss to an opponent, especially if the artifacts you have in play are creatures.
I don't think I'm on board the hype train. It seems fine, but leaving up 2 artifacts is still an oportunity cost. I don't think improvise is as good as people seem no think. I am interested in seeing if artifact control could work though. Prophetic prism seems really good with improvise.

This card has to be busted in modern Affinity....could even potentially see play in Vintage Shops as a source of a cheap Mana Leak. I really don't know what to say about this, this is just great.
All hail the rise of another New Phyrexia set in terms of power for Standard. It's great to see you, cost reduction mechanics and CMC matter cards!
AND it's a COMMON!? Drafters and Sealed players rejoice. I seriously thought it was a Rare when I read it the first couple times.
I think it will see play in Vintage. It plays too nicely with Trinisphere, Winter Orb, etc to pass up. It's more than just Mana Leak; it's also a way to turn off your stax artifacts for your turn.

I agree. Improvise is jumping through hoops and meeting requirements for the spells to be good. This is going to be mana leak for 3 some times. That's bad.
Please. Affinity has enough one-mana interactive spells to cover your bases already. I'm not trading "this always costs 1 mana" for "this is dead on draws when I don't have two spare artifacts."
Don't play bard cards like shield an saw to get a marginal upgrade on a card. Every player will play something in this scenario, and then play another threat next turn, happy that you threw away your hand for a negligible tempo gain.
Instead good players will go T1 Thraben Inspector to have this available T2. Or something similar.
I was merely describing a situation in which being able to use this counterspell on turn 1 is possible. Given that other options in Standard exist--Unsubstantiate, Horribly Awry, Negate, Spell Shrivel--I am never going be be using Rebuke outside of Limited. I highly doubt anyone else is going to use it under normal circumstances, either.
This set trumps new phyrexia on power level and has tons of casual appeal. I really don't like how they geared this set to sell modern though. Some of these should have been in the fall set as they gimped that one.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
I could see this more in an equipment deck possibly. But yeah, it's definitely outshined by Baral.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
People keep complaining about the death of counterspells, or of this or that and WotC always replies. "It is a pendulum that swings". And indeed it does.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.

In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like this to occur and validate you.
Why bother with counterspell magic when you have enough replicants metallic spiders to throw in the path of the spell. A representation of Tezzeret-Liliana fight by the Bridge.
I must say that Tezzeret's lines on his cards are kind of cheesy, but I enjoy them. A lot.

One possibly good counterspell doesn't prove the pendulum is swinging back. This could just be one of those things that fall through the cracks, or this card won't do much of anything and many will be disappointed.
This is the second incredibly viable counter we got in this set. I could see this being run as a 4 of alongside our favorite *not voidslime* variant. Even with Mister Chief of compliance himself or Tezzy. Artifact control should hopefully be playful in standard
Standard will have only three 0-cost artifacts (at this time, pending new spoilers), Bone Saw, Cathar's Shield, and Ornithopter. Being able to drop two artifacts and a blue land on turn 1 is not outside the realm of possibility. It wouldn't matter if you tip your hand to your opponent that you have Rebuke in hand--the threat alone might alter their plans until turn 4.

Seems only plausible in the paradoxical storm deck. . Even so I doubt playing out Ornithopter before you are ready to storm would be smart.
The feeling I'm getting from Aether Revolt and MTG in general with Kaladesh block is that the designers want people to have decks based on the planeswalkers. They want people to see a walker and then be like "I want to make a deck around that guy", so they made Tezzeret the schemer and a bunch of other on theme cards like Metallic Rebuke and Tezzeret's Touch to get people into deck brewing an artifact deck. The trouble I'm running into with this idea is the designers didn't have a clue how powerful other deck ideas are in the format.
