I guessed a decent 8 of the inventions, and I'm fine with that.
I hate that Platinum Angel got another reprint over her bulky Pacific Rim esque kin, Platinum Emperion (which shot up to an impressive $18 recently), but I can't be mad at that art for the Angel. The white against all of that gold is great. It only makes me wish they would have put both in so we could see them side by side. Emperion needs a reprint, do it WoTC.
I would not hate opening up Ornithopter MP, and that flavor text is great.
I am liking that Wurmcoil Engine too, although you can't really see it is made of two different smaller ones together, but I do enjoy how it looks.
Masterpiece Nevinyrral's Disk would have been pretty sweet. I'd love to see it with good new art rather than that poopy reprint art.
Original art: HERE'S SOME CRAZY TENTACLE MONSTER FROM AN ABYSSAL REALM HERE TO DESTROY EVERYTHING YOU KNOW!
Reprint art: Here's a handheld vaccum cleaner. The **** do you want from us?
Man, Mark Tedin does some awesome stuff. I'm really glad he still does the occasional piece for WotC. He's REALLY good at things that are creepy and icky looking.
I don't get why anyone would be disappointed by opening an Ornithopter. 1) You opened a masterpiece, shut up 2) It's going to be valuable 3) Art is great 4) Ornithopters are hella cool, always has been, always will be.
I got a foil Ornithopter at the M15 prerelease and ended up playing it. My excuse was to have something to return with Peel from Reality, but honestly it was just too cool not to play.

So...By your logic, if I opened a foil Demon of Dark Schemes that goes for less than 3 euro on mkm I should be happy because it was rare?
That is silly.
When on average other masterpieces go for 25+ euro, peaking at over 65 I should be happy to have one that is worth less than 15?
See above.
Point 3 and 4 are not even worth discussing.
I think you took my post way more seriously than I did.
I don't expect Ornithopter to be worth less than 15 though, I expect it to easily be worth the same as Steel Overseer, currently resting at USD 50 TCG or EUR 25 MKM because it's a 4-of exclusive to the same tier 1 deck. I expect at least five of these masterpieces to be worth less than Orni.
Are you gonna feel bad about opening a 50 dollar card in the bonus slot? I sure wouldn't.

The number of earlier printings might not impact its value that much. It's more useful to think of it in terms of demand: How many people out there want this MP Ornithopter? My best estimate is about the same number as for Steel Overseer, in fact they should be pretty much the exact same people. If anything could have a negative impact on Ornithopter's price relative to Overseer's, it would have to be that some Affinity pimps might prefer the gorgeous ATQ Ornithopter over this.
This is all loose speculation ofc, I might have no idea what I'm talking about

But it's cool that the Shackles are in. And that Sword of War and Peace art is sexy. That's like Final Fantasy levels of detail. I gotta get one eventually.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Sol Ring has been reprinted into oblivion, and yet it's still the most expensive of the Kaladesh Inventions. Because virtually every EDH deck runs it. Ornithopter has a lot of fans. It's not going to be sub-$40.
Please DONT tell me this is our Christmas-gift ! im grateful, but how can one rejoice to Reprints, which are not affordable & not even T2-legal ?? Im utterly dissapointed
I love that Wizards shows me all the cool cards I'll never have a chance to own. No sour grapes here. No siree.
I feel you as a singles / constructed person who doesn't like wasting his time on packs. They probably will have from the vaults in the future with the inventions and other cards from these sets in them. Unfortunately, pack openings are probably going to be lower on Aether Revolt than Kaladesh, so inventions from this set will be more expensive and hard to find.
I've always found these cards to be a bit of an odd duckling, since you can usually find really great altered art cards for EDH from artists along with full art lands. These guys are technically tournament legal versions of alternate art cards, but I can't imagine someone actually using them in a Modern Tournament simply because the cost of running a playset is prohibitively expensive. So that really leaves the EDH community and collectors as the primary targets.
I mean, this is the guy I go to for my full arts these days on land cards...
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

Um, no, there were 30 in the first batch, from #1 Cataclysmic Gearhulk to #30 Sword of Light and Shadow. There were 25 reprints, plus the 5 then-new Gearhulks.

This set is numbers 31 thru 54, of which 2 are new and haven't been seen yet.
My 720 Peasant Cube
Low-power cube enthusiast!
My 1570 card cube (no longer updated)
My 415 Peasant+ Artifact and Enchantment Cube
Ever-Expanding "Just throw it in" cube.
Yeah, that art beats the other two by a ton for me. Thats the one I am most interester in, besides an ornithopter as a token.
Club Flamingo Wins: 1!
And going by the flavor text those researchers were fairly buff.

We're also getting closer to having an entirely-masterpiece affinity deck which is quite cool.
But really, ornithopter is sweet. Such an enduring card

1 in 144 of getting an invention, 1 of 30 inventions, 2 packs of Kaladesh = .046%
Odds of pulling Grindstone in AER-KLD sealed
1 in 144 of getting an invention, 1 of 24 inventions, 4 packs of Kaladesh = .112%
Odds of both happening simultaneously .046% * .112% = .0000529%
You should be able to pull of the combo in 1 out of every 1,980,359 sealed decks.
Sounds like a reliable strategy to me.
I wonder when mtg surprise will show?
(Assuming it will be the final 2 masterpieces.)
