I'm not saying they are doing the box mapping, you misunderstand me. I'm saying they may be buying on the secondary market loose packs that may or may not have ALREADY been box mapped. Joe Blow, LGS owner, may have a lot of unsold boosters that they know have been box-mapped and they sell them to MJ Holding at a deep discount and MJ Holding marks them back up to MSRP. That may not be the case but "Buyer Beware".

It's been a while since box mapping was a thing.
I don't think that's a concern for recent sets outside of that packaging error where mythics appeared in certain packs with the same image on them.
The sixth pack in mine was Return to Ravnica. And for what it's worth, I got three mythics, the newest versions of Jace and Kiora and a Worldspine Wurm. So if the packs were box mapped, it wasn't very well.
User results may vary. My LGS was using a form of box-mapping during BFZ in that if you bought a loose pack(s) from an opened booster box and you opened an Expedition in front of an employee, they would give you a free pack. Later down the road loose BFZ boosters were being sold with deep discounts. They were basically mapped.
What I am saying that the overall frequency or probability of pulling value cards will be lower than that of buying firsthand. If that lessened chance at MSRP is worth it to a buyer, then by all means enjoy. It isn't for me. Odds are already stacked against us, I don't want to make the odds worse, especially at MSRP or ABOVE MSRP. I will pass unless the price warrants a chance.

I grabbed one of these on a whim. Mine was a screwup as I had 7 packs. The guaranteed five, a Return to Ravnica, and a Shadowmoor of all things. So who knows, may be worth it.

I know it's hard to believe by some, but there are people who just like to open packs. No matter the math and odds behind it.
It's just to the old school fun of seeing what you open.
Possible. But if this company is buying up packs on the cheap on the secondary market they are likely to have been box-mapped and your chances of getting "good stuff" is lesser than buying directly from a retailer or trusted source.
This is false. Having worked for Target, speaking with employees who stock them, and buying more of these things over the years than I care to mention, I can say with 100% certainty that they're not mapped. They're just unsold product being repacked. Besides, what you're proposing doesn't even make sense. What kind of profit margins could be had for buying random packs, repackaging them, and selling them for ~MSRP at Target and Wal-Mart?

A guy who goes to my local found a pack of Alliances in his. It seems like this is the exact same deal as the Pokemon Mystery Box that has packs of Base Set/Fossil in them at random. Made by the same company.
I can buy 6 packs for less than this at my LGS. Hard pass...

MJ Holding also does the repackaged 3 packs with the 2 rares (used to be just one rare, a promo). Checked at my local WM today, none of these Misery Packs (Yes I meant to misspell it.) For kicks I picked up one of the 3 packs with the promo and extra rare. Nothing but a lot of box-mapped junk. There may be a nugget to be found every once in a while but I won't be spending my money on these unless they are offered at a DEEP discount.
As for the price question, I searched and found a thread on Reddit where someone posted a pic of these with a $24.98 price below it. My advice, save your 25 bucks and spend it on cards or packs that haven't been box-mapped.
I was buying the clear boxes that had 2 commander decks for $30. Was a steal!
The company doesn't waste their time on box-mapping. They repackage product whose original packaging has been damaged or otherwise wasn't sold. Trust me, they really don't have a clue about what's valuable in Magic. A few years ago, I was able to purchase one of their products that had two decks and two packs in a clear plastic case when one of the decks was the Political Puppets Commander Deck. On another occasion a couple of months ago, I got one of those three packs with the promo card and there was a Conflux pack in it (and the pack itself had a Maelstrom Archangel).
It's tempting to blame your bad luck on the machinations of some third party, but these repackagings are done by individuals who have no clue about Magic (hence, the Stocking Tiger error from last year).
The best was when those clear boxes had 2 Commander Decks in them. I was happy to buy those for $30 each.

No no, once again I'm being misread.
No where have I said Big box stores map their product. I'm saying LGS and online retailers that sell loose packs can map their product and then possibly sell the dregs to MJ Holding to be repackaged and re-sold at Big box stores. Again this is just a theory of mine, but I bet if you'd contact MJ Holding letting them know you have loose packs to sell in bulk, they would buy them from you if you were a dealer/LGS owner/online retailer. I may contact them to see if this is indeed the case.
And to answer your profit margin question, MJ Holding isn't going to offer anyone more than 50% of original MSRP when they buy and repackage, BUT they are going to charge more again to resell to box stores who will mark up to MSRP.
If you like uncertainty and slightly lesser odds of pulling "good stuff", then go for it. At these prices I will pass.

This package doesn't sound like a great deal, but earlier in the year at Target I got Deveri & Proosh commander decks, the Heroes half of the duel deck set Heroes vs Monsters, Azorius intro pack from RtR, plus two promos (one being a feldar sovereign I needed) for $30. The catch was that each of these sets were in clear plastic boxes and you had to know based on the card showing in front what the set was or you got stuck with junk, but I was happy to get two commander decks for the price of one.

This is 100% incorrect. The only outlet for selling loose packs is an item like this since all other boosters must be sold in "blisters" and they have more than enough inventory in damaged product to fill the need for something like this. They also can just buy product from other distributors and from retailers at normal cost so there is zero upside and all downside for a company like MJ Holding to buy packs from an LGS.
So what you are saying is that if I contact MJ Holdings and offer to sell them X amount of loose packs as a LGS owner they are going to decline to make an offer.
I am under the assumption that MJ Holding will BUY damaged and unused product from retailers or other online sellers, then repackage those and sell them right back to retailers. They aren't a charity. If we have someone in the business please share. I will be contacting MJ Holdings to see if they do indeed purchase from outlets other than big box retailers. Not because I want to sell, but because I want to know how they do business.

I was under the impression that MJ Holdings was the company that stocks these stores(It is not Meijer etc. that actually stocks these things). They are just a big distributor with lots of left over product that they rehash and rehash to eventually sell. They have some damaged product of their own but also lots of loose boosters from the hangtags.

I'm not trying to be rude, just wanting to get real answers. But if they stock these retailers, they don't own the product to be sold. Basically they are in transport, stock and re-packaging then??? Big stores then pay them to repackage damaged merchandise??? Am I getting warmer. Again I genuinely want to know.

Companies like MJ Holdings deal directly with Wizards. They are the middlemen between Wizards and big retailers like Wal-Mart and Target. They get their product for cheaper than LGS's do because LGS's go through similar distributors.
OK, so are the retailers then buying from MJ Holdings or the retailers buy from Wizards and MJ Holdings then is a distribution branch to those retailers? Again, just wanting to get the right information. If true, the more layers of these "middlemen" the more we are going to have to pay for the product. Makes me wish we could buy "damaged product" from the retailers without it having to go back through a middleman yet another time and seeing the price marked right back up.
Back to the topic of the Mystery boxes for those that have bought them. Do they have a plastic overwrap on them? Or could someone just pop the top and look inside to see what boosters lie within. I could see some people buying these opening them, then returning for refunds. Or I could see buying opening, taking out a more valuable booster and replacing it with a junk booster. I guess too much effort for the crime I suppose.

They are sealed all neatly and the box is more professional than previous items like the 3 pack hanger or the plastic cube. I almost thought it was a WoTC product so no peaking inside. The 3 pack hangers gave away what was in them because you could see the side of the package. Tons and Tons of Born of the Gods and Core set products were left over at the stores.
As for the exact business relationship I am not sure. It might be like the Pepsi guys who stock right to the shelves, so I am not sure exactly who makes what on these items. I am guessing that they have the largest margins (highest shelf price and lowest cost from wizards) that a person off the street can buy from. They also have the highest shrinkage(theft) and high maintenance inventory.

Before BFZ release, I went to a Target to see when they would get the fat packs. My understanding was that they were stocked by completely independent realtors and Target didn't make that much money off of them. They also couldn't tell me when a product came in, because it just depended on when the guy came in, and they had no idea what the schedule was. This is also why the products are ~5% above MSRP (at least in my area) at Target--the RedCard discount was costing too much money, so the base price for a pack is 4.19, commander 36.99, fat pack (I think) 44.99 and so on.
The best was when those clear boxes had 2 Commander Decks in them. I was happy to buy those for $30 each.
Oh, they can be much better. I've found two with 3 commander decks, the first of which had Counterpunch, Devour for Power, and Heavenly Inferno. Needless to say I visited every Target within reasonable distance that day to see if there were any other jackpots (I only found 2 more with commander decks, both Devour for Power). I've also realized that the repack cubes will contain the 1-year-old commander sets a month or two after the new release, about 3 months after the old are taken off the shelve. Got the red, green, white, and black mono color ones this way (I think only 1 2-pack though). My guess is it is just completely and totally random. I've seen fat pack land packs in them. Which could be where some of these packs from the mystery box comes from.
