"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again"
Before I came into this thread I thought to myself that for sure this things was going to be w/g. At two mana of different colors, it had to be quite good too.
Definitely not disappointed. This puts counters on all your creatures, not just tokens...so shiok lah. Means that this is good at almost any point in the game.
In standard we have even more 'walker decks to look forward to, which should be fun.

DECKS:
Commander:
Aurelia the Warleader - Combat Tricks and Swarm
Oloro, Ageless Ascetic - Lifegain/Lifedrain Pillowfort
Trostani, Selesnya's Voice - Token Assault
Meren of Clan Nel Toth - Reanimator Value
Mizzix - Out of the Box Spellslinger
The two abilities seem like they don't work well together. Playing it early and you don't have a board and basically waste a card reducing cost. Playing it late and the cost reduction is irrelevant and a two mana +1 to your team isn't good enough.

I thought about that, too. You can play it turn 3 or 4 after dropping an Advocate, Reflector Mage, or Oath of Gideon and still get a lot of value out of Ajani's Oath. Also, it's not the worst thing to turn your Inspector into a 2/3 on turn 2.

How do you waste it playing it early? A turn 3 Gideon is very relevant. And if you're playing a G/W tokens deck GW for a permanent +1/+1 to 4+ creatures is pretty good. It's unlikely you will never be unhappy to draw multiple copies of this oath. This will easily be a multiple of in G/W token decks.
The abilities don't play well together yes, but that also means the card is good early and good late.
Would be way cooler if the counters would be spread if you play a planeswalker, instead of firing the 1 shot effect.
Anyway, its a pretty simplistic card for "super-friends" and all the walkers that produce tokens.
----
I must say i dislike the planeswalker "theme" in decks, especially if they are pushed to a point where they are "mandatory" for constructed.
But WotC rolls with that ... nothing i can do ... (hopefully we get some serious planeswalker removal, maybe a controll magic effect against planeswalkers ? that would be sweet).
Not too excited about the card, but oh well. Lets hope we get Ashiok in Amonkhet and we get an Oath of Ashiok. Yeah, never gonna happen, but I can dream.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.

Don't get me wrong, the card is great and I will play it, but... we're just doing this Oath thing once a block from here on out, huh? I'm way more interested in the revolution and Tezzeret's machinations than a flimsy excuse to get the "good" planeswalkers to work together.
Turn 1: Thraben Inspector
Turn 2: Oath of Ajani
Turn 3: Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
-what you'll see on the other side of the table half the games you will play this standard
Fortunately, turn 2 copter helps stave it off. Unfortunately, it will also run copter
W/B is reserved for sorin's oath for sure.
And don't forget W/R for nahiri.
And U/G for kiora.
And while we are musing why not G/B for garruk
EDIT:
U/B for ashiok! :3
Wasn't Sorin killed by Nahiri on Innistrad?
Imprisoned in stone while still alive, being constantly inflicted enough pain so that he can't concentrate enough to planeswalk away (if I'm not mistaken)

Currently Playing:

Modern - UB Mill (casual)
EDH - Meren's Grave Shenanigans
So, who else might join? Karn? Dack Fayden? Koth? Idk who else would besides elspeth when she gets out of the underworld.
I think Koth would be a good option. Maybe if/when we get Elspeth from Theros, the Gatewatch heads over to New Phyrexia and recruits both Koth and Karn and fight the Phyrexians in Mirrodin 3.0 block.
Dack would probably meet the Gatewatch while in trouble. Maybe getting hunted by Garruk or something, or stole from Nicol Bolas, and he joins after the Gatewatch helps him out. (basically, I imagine the Gatewatch recruiting people RPG style. It's basically how they met - you all meet at an Inn, an Inn that's being attacked by Eldrazi).

You mean like To the Slaughter, Ruinous Path, or Dark Intimations? Or every burn spell that hits players ever printed?
Silumgar was REAAALLY @*$%# annoying when he was in Standard.
You made Dragonlord Silumgar cry.

I would guess Ral Zarek returns in the next next set as that has a Gorgon which is probably Vraska, and Ral Zarek might be after her again.
